Their attitude seems pretty balanced. ^^ (Diru's, I mean.) The article makes a good point about not playing to cons. I guess they're playing to audiences who are at least more likely to be converted... And the article gives a good view on their 'Japaneseness', i.e., not making them out to be a novelty, which is more than you can say for some reviews (sometimes, even when a review is good the reporter doesn't seem to be able to get much beyond the fact that 'hey! they sing in Japanese!', which is always annoying. -_-).

I like Toshiya's attitude that it's better to try and fail than not try at all. :cool:

Warcon and Free Will America we're talking about a Jrock Winter Tour with Diru headlining and they'd have some other jrock bands opening so that's probably why warcon is signing other jrock bands.

Diru is really doing alot, but if they enjoy touring then they won't want to take a break. They get a break from the day after the last FVT date until October 9th, then they'll get another break from October 11-November 12. Then they'll get from December 20th - sometime in Feburary off (that's if they do the tour up in canada in feburary, if they don't then they'll have until who knows when off)

They have a new single coming out on November 15 called Agatated Screams of Maggots, if you're talking about an actual album probably in January or Feburary of next year :-)

Your welcome ^_^ and with the album, i'm not actually sure if it is coming out in january or feburary, but i'd think it would since in an interview a while back kaoru was saying that they we're going to be releasing a new album soon and also with all the new songs they have, I'd expect an album.

I just said January or Feburary because on Feburary 2nd it'll be Dirus 10th year together and because if they do tour the U.S. and Canada in feburary, they'd probably want an album out before the tour so people could get to know the songs before they actually perform alot of them.

Haha!! Yeah, I wish they played more of the older songs as well. There's quite a few that I'd love to hear live.

I really wanted to meet Kyo and I was lucky enough to do so. However, many were not able to due to some fans that did not respect the rules. I know a guy even forced a hug on him. It made me extremely upset that he did that. Kyo ended up leaving soon after leaving a really long line of fans behind. :(

The street team made him a banner with a whole bunch of signatures on it. It was really impressive. I believe it had 100+ signatures on it. ^_______^ We meant to give it to him at the meet and greet, but he left before we were able to do so. The other leader of the street team and I were going to drop it off outside their tour bus, but one of the roadies did us the favor of giving it to them. I sure hope it really did make it to them.

I was really amused by the fact that I knew two of the Diru staff. I met them in May when I had dinner with Kamijo from Lareine. ^_^; I wanted to say hi to them, but they were pretty much inaccessible. Actually, when we were walking to the tour bus, we saw Kyo and the translator lady I had met before rushing past us in one of those golf-car looking things. I squealed and waved hi like a maniac to Kyo the lady. She didn't recongize me, but Kyo waved back. ^_______________________^

With songs they only go back to Six Ugly (2002). It's rare but sometimes they'll play a song or two from Kisou (2002).

@ miki78: Yup, Kyo is the little blonde vocalist. :hihi: About his scratches, well he makes scratches on his chest and stomach during lives sometimes. About the "dressing up like a girl" thing; they all used to be visual kei, back in the day, and I think most all of them dressed kinda like women at some point (although some look more womanly than others!). :blush: These days, they don't dress up like that any more. I'm not sure which member you mean (if you have a picture that would help! :p) but the most feminine looking member is Shinya. And yup, red haired guy is Die. The other members are Kaoru (guitar) and Toshiya (bass). Kaoru has awesome cheekbones and tends to look quite manly even when wearing fake breasts and pink hair (XD); Toshiya back in Visual kei days looked more "glam feminine" (although these days like the others has left the feminine look behind). Oh, and he has snaggly teeth. :blush: Hope that helped... :p

It'd be in feburary and they'd be touring the US and Canada, They'll be headlining it, but their might be some other jrock bands touring with them. Warcon is making their own jrock label in December and are going to sign some bands and hopefully will get them to tour it.

About the tour, I have friends who went to the Toronto FVT show and they met the band by a fence where the buses we're parked. One of their roadies we're telling the Diru fans that they we're thinking or planning a tour for the U.S and Canada in Feburary of next year. I heard this from everyone who met Diru by the fence at the Toronto show it's not just one or two people.

With the signing of other jrock bands by warcon was posted in a japan times article that was posted on here a while back, you can't view it now unless your a member at japan times online, but here's what the article says:

But there are those who believe J-rock is more than a passing fad in North America. Bob Chiappardi, co-president of Warcon Enterprises, Dir en grey's U.S. label, is one. New York-based Warcon, home to such metal and punk acts as Helmet and Bleed the Dream, released the band's "Withering to Death" album with a bonus DVD on May 16. That disc was released here in March 2005 by Free-Will Japan, an indie outfit with distribution through Sony.

"Prospects are good," Chiappardi said by e-mail. "We are actively signing J-rock bands from Free-Will and other sources if it makes sense. We have been approached by a couple of Japanese labels that are impressed with what is going on in the U.S. with Dir en grey."

i don't really see any problem with the blood-thing... i mean, when i was introducing them to someone that went with me and hana to see them in Austin, we had him watch the Code of Vulgar[ism] DVD all the way down there, and he agreed that the bloodshed actually increased the amount of energy that Kyo seemed to add to the whole show. i guess it all depends on the viewer as to whether or not the blood is needed or not, or even if it is welcomed.

as for the pics with the scars on his chest... here are the ones that i managed to come across in my 'Kyo' folder... some of them, you may have to look closely for, but i tried to only get the ones that you could see the scars, or parts of, on my photobucket so that you wouldn't have to straign your eyes too much. :relief: hope these are good enough.... to start anyway... <.<;

I think there's been some talk earlier before some of you guys joined about Kyo and the whole scratching/cutting himself thing... personally I think it really adds to the power and drama of the stage show, and I can totally understand him doing it because he's getting into the emotions of the song he's performing. On the other hand, cutting himself in private, for a more... 'considered' reason, if you like (i.e. not because he's getting carried away on the feeling of the moment as in a live performance) is definitely a 'problem' rather than something to be celebrated, because it would reflect some sort of problem or issue in his mind. Well, that's the way I see it. Because when I have a friend who is cutting themself in private, of course I'm worried about them, I don't encourage them to do it because I like blood and scars and think it makes them sexier. But in performance, it's a different kind of thing... in a way, it's kind of like acting, but I don't mean that in a negative way.
(Incidentally, when you're really warm from exertion, even relatively small scratches show up incredibly red and painful-looking. I discovered that by accident the other day when I clawed myself repeatedly across the chest in a dance piece. It was one of those ad lib moments... and didn't even break the skin. But afterwards I looked like I'd been stung by a huge jellyfish or something! :souka: )

I trust Kyo. I trust that he knows what he's doing. Cutting can be a way of life and as long as one knows what they're doing it's not as dangerous as one might think. I trust and believe in Kyo.
I don't support what he does because I think it's "cool" or "sexy" that's sick in my opinion. I support him because really what else can I do? I'm not going to say "stop it" 'cause he won't. So what can I do? And frankly, I'd just rather support him then not.
Some people cut just to cut or they cut for a reason but still don't actually know much about it. I don't believe Kyo is one of those people. And to be honest, I would worry far more about him if he didn't cut, if he didn't have a release, an outlet for his pain. That, in my opinion, would be so much worse.

Yeah, actually SEEING him do it in person is extremly compelling and powerful.
People who say it's "an act", "a gommick" or "unauthentic" are just trying to explain away what he's doing so that they don't have to take it seriously. 'Cause if they did then it might actually effect them.

Can't remember if I posted this before but here's something I wrote that's kinda about this subject (it deals with a few other issues as well):

A few years ago, I went to see a Shakespeare play that changed my life. That play was Titus Andronicus. Known for it's gore, over-the-top imagery, plot inconsistencies, and damn near impossibility to perform successfully it's widely considered Shakespeares worst tragedy. However, the production of it that I saw was immaculate and well beyond anything I had seen on stage previously (or after). I went to see that production no less then three times during its run.

Now, all the blood, gore, and the wounds inflicted on the actors and actresses were indisputably fake. No one is going to actually hack off their hand night after night for the sake of "authenticity." However, the emotion these stage acts evoked in the audience was very real.

Was the actress playing Lavinia really raped and mutilated by the Goth Brothers? Of course not. But does that mean the horror and emotional agony both she and the audience feels as she opens her mouth and nothing but blood pours forth isn't real? Once more, of course not. When Lavinia lay at Titus' feet crying and broken did that actress not feel the pain, was she not truly crying and was the audience not genuinely weeping with her? Just because it was a play does not make the emotions it stirred up any less valid then if it were real.

When you watch a film, those actors and actresses were paid to give their performances and doesn't the very fact that they are ACTING make every film a "gimmick"? Is there really such a thing in art as true authenticity?

To hold Dir en grey to this standard of "authenticity" when we do not hold other artists and art forms to it is childish and ridiculous.

Does Kyo really feel the emotions he conveys on stage or not? That's a mute point. It is a performance designed to evoke emotion from the audience, that is it's purpose the purpose of all performing art. It is impossible to give a performance that isn't just the smallest bit contrived, even Improve Actors use rules and blueprints for their acts.

When you watch a funny comedian do you stand up and yell, "HE WROTE THAT!!! IT'S NOT AUTHENTIC!!! IT'S A GIMMICK!!!" Well, of course not because it's understood.

Lyrics, like a play or a comedian's routine, are written long before they are performed. They are tweaked, perfected, and rehearsed just like a play. Such is the way with all performing art.

Are the blood and wounds real?

In return I must ask a question, do you expect Lavinia to really get her actual tongue cut out and her hands sawed off every night for your viewing pleasure? Um, no. The blood that spurts from her mouth, do you expect that to be her real blood? No. So why expect Kyo to always bleed himself dry before you? Yes, he sometimes uses fake blood, what of it? He doesn't use it all the time and you can tell because fake blood, no matter how well crafted, can never look exactly like real blood. And it's really rather hard to fake taking a razor to ones chest or arm and making incisions with it that are open and bleeding.

But even if he were "faking" does it matter? The emotion I feel when I see him do it is real and, in the end, isn't that what's truly important? Isn't the important thing that their message get across and the audience feel that pain themselves?

So yes, Dir en grey is a gimmick just like Titus Andronicus, Silence of the Lambs, The Wizard of Oz, Closer, and Schindlers List are gimmicks. But does that mean they aren't great works of art worthy of remembrance? Absolutely not.

I think that Hyde_is_my_anti-drug made some very good points about performance and authenticity. :-) (and when I said in my post about 'performance' and 'acting', like I said, I didn't mean that in any kind of negative way. :) )

Also, there are many of Kyo's fans who feel like Daki and Miki, and I think Daki phrases it very well to say, "I rather have Kyo not to hurt his body". I think the long and the short of it is: we would not wish someone to have an emotional pain such as makes them feel the need to hurt themselves; for example, for Kyo substitute someone you know; your brother, your best mate - if you could take away their feeling of mental distress, probably you would. On the other hand, it also makes sense to respect and even admire the way that Kyo turns this emotion into something more creative and positive. Like Miki, I have no wish to see Kyo in pain either emotionally or physically. But at least by his performances he is using that in a way to communicate, and express something, rather than keeping emotions bottled up which could lead to something worse. It's been said before, but, better to cut yourself than kill yourself.

I agree it does add to the performance. BUT sometimes it can actually take away from it as well. I remember at the Bristow FVT stop, I was actually annoyed when he started cutting in The Final, and you can tell that it wasn't spurt of the moment getting into kind of thing but a very contrived thing.

Now I know its his "act"/"gimmick" but that one time I was quite annoyed with it and I actually rolled my eyes at it.

That being said, I don't like nor do I hate it. In fact sometimes the scrathes and cuts looks very sexy in pictures. Also I have a ton of folders with him having blood on his face that I find attractive. But I think thats more of a fetish.

Because at all 4 shows I have gone too, whenever he would actually start doing it I would look away.

On another note someone said something about his tatoos/piercing. And let me just say he probally gets them not because he likes the pain (he might though) but more because that kind of stuff is addicting. At this time I only have 1 tatoo and 1 piercing but I definately want more. Also my brother when he got his first tatoo he liked it so much that he went and in 7months time added 9 more tatoos.

I understand exactly what you mean. What is really sad about the whole thing is that most bigshots in the media will try and give them bad names, just because they are not from the same region. For example, part of the reason that Diru has had to wait so long to do a concert/tour in America is because venues were under the impression that they didn't have a large enough fan-base to be able to make them (the venues) any money. But, luckily Diru have a very good persuasionist as a leader. Kaoru made an offer the venues couldn't refuse.... I bet they were shocked when the tickets sold out.

I'm not entirely certain exactly what happened, but I know that Kaoru told the NY venue that there would be good ticket sales, and that if there wasn't, and they didn't drop the show rights, then he would personally pay them double what they actually pulled in for the show. Originally, there were going to be 10 shows, but venues kept dropping them, until there were only the three... while arrangements for the LA show were being made, Kyo reportedly gave them an earful when they also considered dropping the rights.

You know, one would think that after it happened enough times, the shock factor would wear off. *sighs* Some people just aren't too quick, are they?

hana: Yeah, I would have loved to see some of the faces on the bigshots who told Diru they couldn't play at their venues the first time around.
Oh, and I wanna hug the singer for KoRn for recognizing a good band, and getting Diru on their tour.

I'm going by what I read.... It said that they had been present, and that was the only part of the negotiations that they actually said anything for. It's most likely because they were getting tired of being dropped by venues. <.<;

Stupid Americans underestimating Dir en grey. And you know Dir en grey got good Buzz from selling out just those 2 shows and SxSW. So imagine how much media attention if they could have gotten all 10 shows like they wanted. Cause I gaurentee you they would have sold out.

talking about looks, i know diru has put the Visual days in their suit case, but ya, sometimes i think they need a better look. i don't like kaoru's new long hair with goatee look, makes him look so old and messy. Die and Shinya and kyo pretty much stayed the same as before, and toshiya's look is alrite.

I'm looking at somewhere close to $3000+ in total. Much more expensive than my first trip. My first trip only cost $2500 in total. I spent $1250 for the air fare and concert tickets. $250 for hotel. And the rest in spending money.
If I go its going to cost me alot because I'm traveling more in Japan. I need to get a rail pass and thats like $250 but it lets me travel for a week anywhere on the train. And I definately need that, because to travel from (depending on which Airport I fly into)Tokyo/Osaka-Hiroshima then Hiroshima- Fukuoka. Then Fukuoka-Tokyo/Osaka would cost like close to $500. So I need to buy a rail pass. Then I need hotel rooms. Then the flight to Japan which I have been pricing and seems to be $800 RT. THEN I have to get the concert tickets and they haven't gone on sale yet (10/29/2006) but they cost like $50 dollars each so 3 concerts that $150 + the guy who is getting them for me (If I go nothing is final yet) is charging me 20% of the ticket cost + Shipping and handling.
Whew...yea alot of money. And I STILL have Onicon coming up although I already bought the concert tickets and my plane ticket. I just have to figure out the hotel expenses.
Edit: Boobs I know you have some hidden nest egg somewhere...you know you want to go...think of how much fun it will be FUN FUN FUN :lol:

um... boobiebutt, they do pluck, but they don't all get to the point where they have nothing left... some of them only pluck to keep their eyebrows sculpted.... proof of that is in the Macabre Tour 00-01 DVD... i don't remember which chapter it is in, but you can see Kyo plucking to sculpt his eyebrows.... i know he wasn't going to remove them completely because of how careful he was being with where he pulled the hair from.... if he was trying to get the full eyebrow off, he wouldn't have needed to be so careful.

yeah, but Toshiya's response of 'There's so much we can't tell you about' was to a question asking what their most exciting/embarrassing/memorable event or happening was on the tour.... it's more like he didn't want to embarrass himself or someone else, not so much like he was trying to hide something.... :souka: or am i the only one who got that..? .... granted, after reading that post, i had to listen to the interview 3 times before realizing what he was really trying to say.... :relief: it was easy to misunderstand them with the way they were wording the answers...... but, you could give him the benefit of the doubt..... i mean, he still answered the question, didn't he? it may not have been humourous, or anything to make you laugh, like the question suggested it might have been, but he still answered. Sorry if i misunderstood what you were trying to say, but it seemed like you were all griping about him avoiding a question that he didn't avoid.... in fact, they answered all of the questions, i think.... it may have been difficult to understand exactly what the answers were, but they still answered them in some way, shape, form, or fashion... and, at the most, there were 2 questions that they gave a breif explanation to why they could not give a proper answer to them.... well, unless you count Die telling people to just expect a new CD, and would not give any details to it..... <.<; but, this early into production, it's not like they would know anything for certain other than the fact that it is coming. :souka: i think i need to shut up now before this gets too long.....
