You say some of them were unfair questions I say some of those could have been easily answered.
True they probally couldn't say much about the new album. But they did say a lot of fans might not like it or something like that. When asked why he didn't say why, just that its going to be coming soon or whatever he said.
I feel he could have answered that question. If he thinks its going to turn away some fans then he could have easily answered why without giving anything away. They could have said well its a depature from what we normally do. Its a different sound, its a bit harder, were experimenting with new sounds. He could have said any of that and it wouldn't have given anything away. Especially as those are things they have said about previous albums in other interviews.
Yes the do you think you will open the door for other Japanese music question was a bit unfair.
But the how the fans reacted question wasn't an unfair question. I mean they could easily see how the fans were. The could tell from the meet and greet that it was a big turnout for them. Those questions weren't that hard.
And no you weren't sounding like a *****. It allways good to have your opinion. And I personally love a good debate. I should be a lawyer except that I couldn't stand to defend someone I know was guilty.
Diru has ALOt of remixes huh? I hope if the Jrock Con launches, Dir en Grey comes! :D

Ok lets get some conversation in here. Now this is taken from Batsu.
On this website (its down right now) www.adeyto.com (Adeyto is the model from Aint Afraid to Die) there is a picture of Kyo. And his riser has the phrase
Arbeit Macht Frie - Work makes one free.
Now this phrase is famous for being in the gates of Concentration Camps during WWII. Because of this the phrase has the conotation of being related to Nazi's and all this stuff.
What is your opinion on Kyo using these words?
I personally believe Kyo means nothing of it except it looks and sounds cool and I'm pretty sure the fans have no idea what the hell it means or its connotations.
Precious4e
Oct 11, 2006, 06:52
^ I personally don't think he means anything of it. And since Kyo likes to be the dark little man he is, having the image of Nazis in the back of people's minds is quite dark and intimidating. His style if I must say (NOT saying he is a Nazi). And this isn't the first time Nazi connotation is being used in Japan (example: hyde during his AWAKE tour) It's more for effect than for personal political reasons. (Though maybe he can be making a social comment.. not sure what. I'm not too philosophical.)
And dirus_ninjou: haha I like Spencer's. The toys are funny. It's more for gag than for use.
Kagura
Oct 11, 2006, 08:04
I agrre, Kyo wouldn't really mean anything by using Nazi slogans would he? If anything maybe he believes there is another, more better meaning to it, that's just my opinion.
Didn't something like this happen with Die and his Nazi band? (I don't wanna call it that but I don't know how to spell the name of the actualy symbol XD)
I don't think ANY of them mean any harm, or else that'd be murder for their careers, and they just don't seem to be those type of people
dirus_ninjou
Last time I checked on hot topics website they didn't have it, but if you go into a store they can find out what store has the shirt you're looking for and order it for you.
nana007
I don't think he means anything by it at all, it can be offensive to some people. Alot of german words have alot to do with WWII. Maybe it's just my family, but if you we're to say any of the phrases to one of them, you'd get hit because of how it was used. (my family is german btw)

Oct 11, 2006, 18:37
I remember the picture where Die (and I think Kaoru also?) wore the swastika. In fact, there was a discussion sometime about whether it was offensive.
About Kyo... Hmmm, at first my instinctive feeling was that I didn't think he meant for it to be offensive... thinking a bit more... I'm not sure... because after all, a lot of the imagery he uses is... not supposed to be "offensive" as such, but at least supposed to be moving, shocking if you like... at least, trying to provoke a strong reaction, in order to give people more powerful feelings associated with the music (presumably)... so it could be that while not actually meaning to "offend", he used that phrase thinking that it would grab people's attention because of its Nazi associations.
I very much doubt whether Kyo chose the phrase because he supports Nazism or agrees with what was done in the concentration camps! O_o That wouldn't really match with what we know of Kyo/Dir through their music, don't you think? So I really don't think he chose that riser in order to "shock" or "offend" people by giving the impression that he's a "Nazi" or supports what they did. More likely he wanted people to think.
It could also be a kind of... ironic thing? Maybe relating to him directly? Because making music is his "work"... so maybe it's some kind of comment about freedom... about how what is put forward as being "freedom" is not freedom at all in the end, but more like a slavery? :?
I'm confused... I need to stop thinking so much

Riyko: yeah, that's the good thing about large store chains. if they don't have it, but another store does, then they can order it from them.
as for Kyo and his riser.... that phrase has many meanings. and like Kinsao said, it could simply be that he is using that phrase to discribe himself. though, i will take it a little farther and say that he could have been using it as a sense of through his work, and through writing the lyrics that he does, he may find a higher level of freedom. maybe he is able to free his mind and spirit when he is working. he no longer thinks about what everyone around him is saying and doing as long as it doesn't strain on what he is working for. another possibility is that he wanted it to be thought of in it's original connotation, and he wanted it to be looked at as a Nazi act. this could be for something so simple as to remind people who are getting high on a power trip of the things that Hitler did when he was in the same or a simular possition. he could have also been using it to give more power to his lyrics. the fact that he writes about the pain and suffering of people in some way or another. what better way to give an example of such pain and suffering than to use the Nazis and what they did. using a slogan that was made popular, or well known, by those people who brought many lives to an end and who caused a great deal of suffering would not only give a stronger sense of understanding to his work, but it would also serve as a backboard to the pain that he writes and sings about. it's like... someone has scars that they can see anytime, but when something opens that scar up, all of the emotions return to them from the first time the injury occured, and the person remembers everything about how they got that scar and how they have gotten to be where they are now. sometimes, just seeing the pain, or in the case of Kyo's lyrics, hearing the pain isn't enough. something has to trigger the correlation of that pain to something that the listener actually knows. something that the listener can relate to. that fact could also be part of the reasoning behind his cutting/scratching on the stage. the fact that it gives the audience a visual aid to help intensify the feeling he is trying to express.
if i made no sense with that, i'm sorry. i was just trying to get the words out before they were able to flee my mind.

i think its kind of stupid to think kyo doesnt mean anythign of it at all and that he thinks its just cool. its unfair to think his mind isnt deeper than that. im sure he means something of it, offensive or not.

I'm not saying it doesn't mean anything at all. But that him using that slogan doesn't mean anything related to Nazism. Yea he probally does have his personal reasons to use it. But for The majority of the fans the Japanese/Non-German people they probally don't have a clue as to what it really means.
And as I said earlier I don't find it offensive at.
The only real J-Rock related thing that has ever offended me was the use of black face in MYV's Freedom Fighter video. And even then it really doesn't offend me like OMG He's A racist I don't like him anymore.
Also I love the new cover art its so cool and is IMHO the best they have had yet, I wasn't to Impressed with Ryoujoku no Ame's art.

I like Toshiyas hair no matter what color it is. Why does his hair color really matter, if you like him as a bassist then his hair color or anything else shouldn't really matter. I don't know if you we're being sarcastic about his hair or not, but it gets a bit annoying after a while hearing people complain about toshiyas hair and facial hair when he had it, kyo and kaorus facial hair.
That's my 2 cents about that subject.

Riyko i agree that his hair shouldnt matter

Riyko: i don't know if this is going to make any sense, but i'm going to try anyway... this is my view on this matter..... you're right, it shouldn't matter what color his hair is as long as we all know that he is an amazing bassist and a good person, and that we all like him for that. what i was saying though, is that we have seen him do better with his hair, and he is the one (presumably) who is big on the way he looks, so it was rather ironic seeing him go out with blonde hair. at one time, i was very interested to see him blonde, then it happened, and suddenly i was kicking myself for thinking that he would look good that way. no matter who they are, there are people who do things that do not suit them... this is one of those times for Toshiya. the blonde hair just doesn't suit him. that'd be like Kaoru or Die going with lime green hair.... it just wouldn't suit them. Totchi didn't look too bad with the facial hair, granted it did take getting used to seeing it. and, i have tried to get used to the blonde and tried to like it, but if you put him with dark hair (any color) and him with blonde hair in front of me, i'm going to pay more attention to him with dark hair. this is a matter of opinion, as is my stating that i wish he would go back to the darker colors. i don't care if it is black, blue, brown, black and red, hell, i wouldn't even care if it were purple, so long as it was no longer blonde. and, i have no problems with him changing his hair color, i just wish he would stay away from bleach.... besides, if he wasn't doing some crazy, off the wall something, it would give everyone addiquate reason to worry about his health or something.... i doubt that i would believe he was healthy if he didn't do something wierd.... :okashii: hm.. like i said, i don't know if that makes any sense...... if not, i'm sorry... i was trying to keep my fingers moving as fast as my thoughts.

Well no matter what, celebrities will have their looks critiqued by the public. That's a fact. I don't think it's a big thing unless people get too obsessed about the looks and forget about the talent.
But you know what, image does have a lot to do with the entertainment world. How many people have gotten into Diru because of their looks and how many were turned off to Diru because of their looks? So even though image shouldn't be what a musician should be judged on, it is a big deal.
But of course with us already being huge Diru fans, we don't care how they look just the music they produce. Right? lol
I was just giving my opinion on it and going on livejournal when there'd be 20-30 posts a day about how Toshiya looks like a mexican drug lord with his facial hair or that he needs to learn how to do his hair so it's not fizzy does tend to get annoying and then about how Kaoru and Kyo just aren't the same people with the facial hair.
It makes you really think do people actually like them for their music or just for their looks not saying that any of you guys are like that. That was more of what I was trying to get at, but i'm not really good at describing it.
I'll admit it took me a bit to get used to a few of their looks, but the thing I noticed the most we're their outfits more then their face and hair because to me it's the same person just with a new and different look. Everyone is different by what they judge a band on, me it's music if they can't make music it'll turn me off of the band more then their looks.
Kagura
Oct 22, 2006, 13:29
so true!!! I think it's kinda sad how ALOT of people abandon GREAT bands like Diru and others just because they aren't VK anymore......I'm sure that's happened alot. People are just too dependant on looks now and days....kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?
Setsuna69
Oct 23, 2006, 01:32
To me, it would sort of make sense if that was part of the reason they changed from they're old vk look. I mean, they're still really visual, but not necesarily stereo-typical visual kei. When they stopped dressing like they used to, they did lose fans. But maybe that's a good thing, since that would mean that those fans were just into the looks and nothing else, right? It would be like weeding out the fans that don't really care about the music or the band in general.
I don't think that there's anything wrong with liking the image of a band, but when something like them dressing differently causes one to not like them at all anymore, it just makes me wonder if they even listened to the music in the first place. Shouldn't the music be what's important in a band foremost? Everything else matters too, but I think the music should be what's most important.
...Okay, I'll shut up now. XD
dirus_ninjou
Oct 23, 2006, 03:55
:souka: Mexican drug lord..? o.O;; wow... i think that is a bigger insult than calling him female.... :relief: and, you're right, as long as we all know that their music is good, then the way that they look really doesn't matter... it just makes for somewhat interesting conversation starters. :okashii: i don't think that came out the way i wanted it to, but i'm not really sure how to word it so that it will. and, a lot of their 'fans' left when the music that they were making started to mature and take on a heavier sound. though i can see why that would make people turn from them, i don't really understand how it really made that much difference.... i mean, it was still the same band, and it's not like they warped over to a more poppy sound, so hearing people complain about the new sound diru was putting out was really irritating. then again, i started out with music from all eras, rather than just the VK and then going out and buying the WTD cd, so i really can't say if it was a big deal or not..... :relief: though, another reason it shouldn't have been was the fact that they kind of weened the fans into the direction their music was going... adding a little more with each new song, single, and album.
he needs to learn how to do his hair so it's not fizzy
:souka: i think its a good thing that he lets his hair 'friz'... it is a way to remind people that he is human. Kaoru and Kyo just aren't the same people with the facial hair. they ARE the same people. who ever says otherwise needs to grow up. just because they let their faces grow out a little doesn't make them different people. Kaoru is still the Leader-sama, and Kyo is still his twisted little bundle of energy self. a little extra hair isn't going to change that. I'll admit it took me a bit to get used to a few of their looks, but the thing I noticed the most we're their outfits more then their face and hair not trying to sound like i'm harping on him, considering he's my favorite member, but Toshiya has definately gone with clothes to make me wonder what drug he took.... o.O; yes, i know that they don't do drugs, it is sarcasm..... :okashii: i know that if i didn't say something to clarify that, i would have had people commenting on that. i've already *coughfinallycough* gotten used to Kaoru's facial hair, and Kyo's wasn't to difficult to get used to... and i've already stated that i got used to seeing it on Totchi... but, at the rate i'm going, by the time i get used to seeing him with blonde hair, he'll be about ready to change it again... if he hadn't already done so. and, yeah... they did have outfits that they could have gone ages without wearing.... :okashii:
How many people have gotten into Diru because of their looks hmm... my friend Hana was turned onto the band by the first pic of Shinya that she saw, but she has yet to turn them away for anything. :relief: i showed her a pic of him, and she liked that, so i offered to let her listen to them, and the music just kinda grew on her....
but, what i was originally going for with my last post was that the bands are basically like friends that we watch from afar <at least, with me they are>, and would you really let your friend go out if you knew that they didn't look their best? hmm... i don't think that annalogy really helped too much.... :souka: nevermind....
Diru lost fans after Vulgar came out because people didn't like the western influence on their music, every band has to change their style of music if it stays the same then it'll get boring hearing the same thing over and over again and they'll lose alot more fans in the end because the new songs won't be a shock or suprise to the fans.
Musicians are people too, their just doing what they love to do and it is sad that because their well known for their music their looks really matter and it's the major focus of them like Precious4e said. They are people and can't look good 24/7 they have their off days just like people.
dirus_ninjou
When I said that musicians are people too was a reply to what you we're saying about how they are people and I was adding on to that saying that because media gives too much attention to looks people play off of that and think that musicians or anyone who's in the spotlight to look good 24/7 otherwise their's something wrong with them.
Hyde_is_my_anti_drug
I never said Diru is westernized and I know that they aren't westernized, alot of their old japanese fans didn't like Vulgar because they said that it was influenced by the western music too much. I think that their music is still japanese influence, but if people don't like it because they think it's too westernized you can't really do anything about it =/
Kagura
Oct 23, 2006, 10:49
That's all very true. My friend stopped listening to Diru after a while because she said they were becoming Americanized. Here's my thought about the whole thing:
How can bands be Americanized if their influences WERE from American/European bands in the first place? Didn't jrock bands listen to American bands and say that they were their influence? I mean I'm not saying jrock bands never had their own style when it came to their music, but it was never completely their's to begin with, they just built up on it. And yes, the fact that fans stopped listening to them for not liking their new look is good, because it does show who the band's true fans are, I just find it sad how some base their opinions on bands soley for their looks and not their talent. My other friend would be all like "I LOOOVE DIR EN GREY!!!" ONLY because she liked Toshiya, she NEVER listened to their music or even learned the other member's names....so I gave up hope on her XD.
ok....maybe I should stop XD

Well *stepping in with both feet lol* I don't care what the guys look like as long as their music is good. :-) I just gave my opinion on Toshiya's hair, my opinion is that black or dark-brown hair suits him best, and there is the end of it as far as I am concerned... I don't give a monkeys if he dyes his hair all the colours of the rainbow; I might still have my view on what I think looks best on him but it doesn't make me like the music any less or like him any less. :relief:
I hope that made sense. :worried:

@ Jounetsu- MOOHAHAHA you love me for it :D:D:D
@ hyde- As far as i know most of Diru's stuff is still on youtube, and i spend a LOT of time on that website so you can take my word for it ;-) The youtube admins have been taking down a lot of copyright stuff lately as well, so that might also have fueled the rumors you heard. Thank god it's impossible for them to find and take down everything :D:D
@ Riyko- ok, what you did up there with the half-thought post literally had me cracking up for a full minute...a true testament to your alleged brain-deadedness :D:D:D As for your question....i've no idea. Something reminiscent of the obscure PV, perhaps?
dirus_ninjou
Oct 25, 2006, 04:15
Riyko: oh.. that makes more sense.... :-) um... i can't really give an idea as i haven't heard the entire song..... <.<; it sounds like something that they could use the gore and dark image from "Obscure" on, but at the same time, they could end up doing something like they did with "Ryoujoku no ame"... where the true image of the song isn't shown in the video..... then again, the reason that they got in trouble with Sony was supposedly because they wanted to express the image of the single on the cover, so they may want to do that in the video too.... i'm just going to expect it to be one of their bloodiest, goriest, and sickest videos yet, and if they don't go that direction with it, i won't let it be too much of a shock. :relief: sorry if that made no sense.
Nana: be glad you're going... that's more than i can say.... :( hana and myself are just going to start saving up money and we'll go around the end of next year... prolly after christmas so that we can be there for the new year. ^.^
as for the new single being delayed, the OHP isn't showing any change in release date, nor are there any reports of delay that i've been able to find yet. and there is nothing on it on FWA. i'm not saying it can't happen, but i've not seen anything on it other than the report that you posted the link to.
Hyde_is_my_anti-drug: it wouldn't really make sense to have all the Dir en grey stuff taken off the site, though the band are less than please when people [ie: their fans] record their lives and then post them on the net for others to see. and, it's not so much that they don't want everyone to have the chance to see them live, but rather that they don't want the experience of seeing them live to be ruined.
Rikku-Chan: :souka: people flat-out said that they wouldn't take down the videos that they recorded? :souka: that's messed up. you would think that they would have a little more respect for the band than that.... then again, according to someone i know who was also at the OKC show, people on the other end of the stage [Kaoru and Totchi's side] were throwing rocks at the guys, so.... maybe i was giving people a little too much credit.
and, yeah... 26 laughing smilies on 6 posts is a little excessive.... but, imma make it 30 on 7 posts. *evil grin*

Since Google has boughten out Youtube for $1.65 billion, google will have all of the copywritten material off the site by the middle of 2007, so they won't be liable for the copywritten material on the site and get in trouble for it.

The Family Values DVD/CD traclisting has been announced. On the CD
MERCILESS CULT and Ryoujoku no ame. On the DVD Kodoku Ni Shisu, Yueni
Kodoku and THE IIID EMPIRE.
They could have chosen some better songs then that. Although I do love
some Merciless Cult.

Actually, I think that's a good tracklist.
And yes, link pretty please! :balloon:
First time I write in the Dir en grey-topic.
But anyway, I like that band too. Much.
It's third on my list of all time fave bands, not just japanese.
(Well, I don't listen nothing else. XD Those first are japanese too.)
Umh... My fave songs... Maeby The Final and Cage. I think...
I have my "Fav members"-list too, of course. Hmm...
Well, oh, well. I just wanted to show, that there's someone new.
Now I go to read your writings. <--
Welcome to the topic micur =) please tell us who your favorite members are and your favorite album =3
Thanks, Riyko. =3
Oohw, my favourite album... There is so many of them.
I think, that... Withering to death is good. Hmm.. and 鬼葬 Kisō.
And others too, I can't decide. x3
And my favourite members-list is a little bit messed, but thats alright. I'm still pretty sure with that order.
Well... maybe.
My fav has to be Toshiya. x3
Then Shinya, Kyo, Kaoru and Die.
Well, first is Toshiya, I know... But others are not SO sure than could be. XD
First my fav was Kaoru, but then I started to like Toshiya and Kaoru was after him. Kyo was third, then Die, then Shinya.
But something changed and it's now what it is.
Toshiya... oh yeh! \m/ I know why I like him so much. XD
And I like Cube too. That song. And that PV, too. Toshiya-*****. \m/
Shinya, Kaoru, Die... Kyo! Die is so matrix, that I have to like it. XD

:souka: wow... i haven't posted on here in a while..... :relief:
welcome to the tread, Micur! *hand gets tired* :p ..... i had to... it was an opertune moment...... :okashii:
is it just me or do Die, Toshiya, Shinya, and Kyo get the most attention of Diru..? *scratches head* i don't know... not many people put Kaoru at the top of their list for favorites... i know three people who have openly said that Kaoru was their favorite... and one of them doesn't really count because she doesn't really listen to them enough to really have a favorite... she listens more to rave and techno than JRock. :okashii: oh well... i don't want to start something like i did last time... but i was just making note of that fact... i know someone(s) on here earlier expressed Kaoru being high on their list, but i don't remember who and i don't want to spend the next hour or so going through and trying to find it.... <.<;
darkshadow: um.... :souka: i think those were already posted...... a couple pages ago..... :relief: sorry...... but thank you for reposting them~! :-) i needed to resave them anyway..... d*mned computer.....
For me Shinya is the only member that I know that doesn't have alot of fans. Kaoru and Shinya are the least liked of the band, with Kyo the most and Die and Toshiya tied.
I like the whole band, but with every band you always have a favorite and least favorite and with Diru it's Toshiya as my favorite and Kyo as my least favorite... *leaves the topic as not to get attack by Kyo fans*

I have to say I like all the members. But I tend to Favor Kyo, Die with Toshiya, Shinya, Kaoru in that order.

Most Diru fans I meet like Kaoru the best actually.
Poor Shinya is probably the least popular but I like him the best (well tied with Kyo)

Nov 1, 2006, 09:54
Shinya is so underrated, but he's hands down my favorite member of Diru. And it's not just the fact that he's an amazing drummer. There's just something about Shinya....:-)
they say that drummers are the backbones of bands and should be reconized more, but alas poor Shinya hardly gets reconized in the fan base.
Hmm... I think, that in here, Finland, so many people like Shinya most.
Few lists:
Die, Shinya, Kyo, Kaoru, Toshiya.
Shinya, Toshiya, Kyo, Kaoru/Die.
Shinya, Kyo, Kaoru/Toshiya, Die.
And my list was that: Toshiya, Shinya, Kyo, Kaoru, Die.
So... you see? I can't believe, that somewhere they don't like Shinya so much.
Coz here I can always hear about him, even if I don't want to.
Eh... My list was better before.
Toshiya, Kaoru, Kyo, Die, Shinya.
Better? Well, it's like that in here anyway.
Haah! But I know one guy, who hates Shinya.
Her list:
Kaoru, Die, Kyo, Toshiya, Shinya.
Variation.

hmm... i know of two people who have Shinya at the tops of their lists, and my list is a little complicated..... :relief: that being that because as a musician, Toshiya is my favorite, but as a person, Dai is my favorite..... :souka: don't ask me how that happened..... i don't even know.... :okashii: and i agree.. Shinya and Kaoru are really the two with the short sticks, ne? ((sorry if any of you have no idea what i mean.... it's in referrence to 'drawing the short stick/straw/match/ect.))
Nana: hahaha.... they made the mistake of making it to where we can vote multiple times for the same thing..... *evil grin*
I love the preview of the pv they have on Diru's site. It looks like the whole pv will be really cool.
I voted!
And Toshiya is my fav. It used to be Die but the more I see/learn about Totchi the more I love him. Die is still in a close second, then the other three I just love. No real favorites there. I really respect Kaoru and Kyo. For obvious reasons. And I've always loved drummers. It's what stands out for me in a song.. the drums. Ever since I got hooked on led zep when I was thirteen. lol. But I love them all and I can't find anything that would make me rate one above the other when it comes to those three.

It makes me think Duran Duran Take on Me. But gorier. The art is nice, the animation is gorgeous. But in general I have never cared for cartoon style videos. Only a few like that have I ever really liked.
Also as far as the single. I will have to hear it in full on the cd. I heard it live and I must say it is an awesome song live. But then the sample just doesn't do anything for me.
Also who wants to guess at the percentage of english in the song? LOL I'm not sure how much but I do know I clearly hear Shut Up towards the end of the sample.

Nana007
Nov 4, 2006, 05:58
Hmm. Well we are thinking that it is really weird that they are performing the anniversery concert in the U.S. A 10 year anniversary is a big event for Japanese bands (seriously I mean how many Japanese bands have made it to 10 years AND with the same original line up) and they normally have some kind of big show to celebrate it.
dirus_ninjou
Nov 4, 2006, 06:57
yeah, a 10 year anniversary is a big thing for ANY band... i'm sure they will want to celebrate it in their home country. and if they come to the US to celebrate it, i'm going to think that they are truely crazy. <.<; well, who ever came up with the idea, at any rate.....
though, they did say that they are wanting to come back in feb. to do a headlining tour in the US and Canada.... and, Warcon also said that they are working on getting more Japanese bands signed over so that they can hold a massive Japanese tour in the states..... with Diru as the main headliner..... :souka: i hope that they can... i would be to every show in Texas, Oklahoma (if they come here), and possibly even Kansas. :relief: they are well worth it. *shifty eyes* don't judge me~! .... okay... not really.... :relief: though, i would try to go to all the shows in the area..... along with hana and shikami... :-)
the PV: i can't really give an opinion yet... i'm still waiting on it to finish loading... *kicks connection* stupid dial-up.... i was told it was going to be high speed, which is what i'm used to, and i got stuck with dial-up..... *kills whoever came up with the idea of dail-up*
(a few minutes later)
:souka: wow... i'm going to have to get that when it becomes available.... it is very good... when you said it reminded you of "Take on me", i thought it would be wierd... like "JESSICA" wierd.... but it wasn't that bad.... i liked that better than i did the PV for "JESSICA"... oh well.... i still can't wait until it is completed.
I hope they play here in the States, by themselves or not. But it IS their 10th ann. so I don't think they'll be coming here, at least on Feb.2
ROCK ON DIRU!!!!! 10 YEARS OF KICK @SS ROCK!!!!!! wootwoot^^ maybe I shouldn't be saying that yet....oh well ><

waah! i'm so confused! i just got back from chicago so i'm outta the loop.
oh but nothing has been "official", right? :clueless:
Nope nothing is official just rumors, but as I always say don't believe it unless it's up on Dir en grey's OHP or on FWA's site, but even FWA is iffy. I'd stick with just Diru's OHP even though they don't always update it ASAP.
Sorry, I have to go back to your earlier topic ^^. I can't see why Shinya is the least popular as you said, is is because he's so shy and all? I think it's a positive thing.I love his sense of humour, good looks and amazing drumming skills. Shy people are just so adorable and for me Shinya is perfect :-)
Of course he's little different from other members - they all are pretty tough guys, and most of the listeners maybe too  Maybe Shinya is too sissy for them. But yeah, I thought he has lots of fans..
I remember he said that he'll reveal all of his secrets when turning 30. Hopefully he does that, can't wait x)
Hmm, I've always like Shinya, I think his enigmatic nature is really hot! He's such a talented drummer, maybe that's why he doesn't share his secrets, so that way people focus more on his skiils rather than who he's dating. And I wonder what's up with that HOB thing......
the concert thing is confusing. It's also pretty annoying because unless they know everything for sure they shouldn't be posting it on any website. The same thing happened with one of the germany concerts and they we're told if they kept talking about it before it was officially announced they'd cancel the show altogether or that's what people have told me earlier this year that live over in germany.
With Shinya I think it's because he's always so hidden and shy that not many people actually do notice him enough to like him, where as with the rest of the members their always noticeable and always seen that the fans get to know them better then they do with shinya.
dirus_ninjou
Nov 6, 2006, 07:07
hmmm... it only makes sense for them to perform in Japan... then again, Japan has Feb. 12 a whole 14 hours before we do... if they perform in Japan in the afternoon, then get on to a plane and fly to the states, then they could still perform late night in HOB... provided they are smart enough to sleep on the plane on the way here. <.<;;; i hope they don't do that... it would really be too much. they would be so exhausted, i wouldn't be surprised if they -all- had accidents if they did that.
as for Shinya.... i don't think it's because he's 'sissy'... he actually seems to be rather strong, and the fact that he has studied martial arts since he was 6 only adds to that fact..... i think it is like Riyko said... he's just too quiet and hidden for very many fans to notice...... and in the case of my friend hana liking him... a pic of him was the first thing she ever knew of Diru, and she fell in love with him, and then the music grew on her. but, still, he is the one she really notices.

Nov 6, 2006, 11:34
^I think that so many people nagged them about it that they got sick of it. Some people just won't let the past rest and maybe that's why Diru doesn't want to talk it about it. Everyone focuses on it too much. I like their present better than their VK days anyways :hey:
I can't wait for them to come back to the States so I can finally see them. I wonder why they left their VK days.....but I'm not gonna go fan-girl crazy over it, I'm happy with how they are. Maybe it's a good thing they don't talk about their views on VK, because then they would get more bashing about leaving it. Like if they said they respected it people would be like "so why did you leave it then?" and if they said otherwise people would say "then why did you do it in the first place" I dunno, that's jusy my opinion, I just hope people will leave them alone about it now.....

Sorry to drag it up again but I have a theory as to why they might have left the VK scene.
It appears that in Japan VK is seen very much as a teenybopper thing.
Remember whem the Backstreet Boys did that video where they dressed up in costumes and ran around a haunted house?
VK is often viewed like that.
So I think that Deg probably got tired of this connection and wanted to be taken as a serious band, hence the change.
Or they might have just grown out of it, like people do.
Now, I quite liked their VK stuff but I like their new stuff too.
So as long as their music stays kickass, I will always be a Dir en grey fan!:bluush:

Actually I have always thought of VK bands as a type of Boy Band. Mostly because 90% of the fans are female. Just like with a Boy Band.
But then I have always thought Japan a bit weird because All Girl Groups Like Morning Musume and others, the fans are usually male. Wotas they are called.
For me I think Dir en grey left VK so they could be taken seriously and not be viewed as a "Boy Band"

Also I know alot of people won't believe it until FWA or the OHP announce's it. But here is Warcon's Official announcement http://www.warconent.com/news.php?id=105 . And considering that Warcon is the U.S Record Company they are just as Official as FWA.
I also believe Warcon as well, since they are Dir en grey's official American record label and would also know

Nov 10, 2006, 06:48
For me Warcon is just as reliable as FWA. They are the record company.
I was hoping for a Japanese opening band lol.
But that was the band name Warcon put up.
It's definitely not set in stone. I wouldn't care much for the support band anyways since my mind would be too focus on Dir en grey. ^^ (unless the opening act was another JRock band that i'm in love with. Chances are slim.)
I was hoping for a japanese opening band too, it'd be cool to see a japanese band opening for Dir en grey then an american band, but waiting for Diru to come out always makes it worth waiting through the opening band XD.
It would be nice to have more japanese bands to perform with Diru in feburary so then people would have more of an idea of what japanese bands are actually like instead of hearing one song and assuming that's what all japanese music is like. I'm assuming that people will not be the only for Diru, but some people will only be there for the opening band as well.

Am I just really frikkin late in saying my opinion on Agitated Screams of Maggots? :worried:
Anyway... I like it a lot better than Clever Sleazoid... it's still a lot of screaming but somehow it seems stronger and more structured, and the guitars seem more interesting and kinda tighter somehow... I mean, they still shine through, they don't get lost in a mess... although it seems like they work closely together and it would be nice to hear some more separated out lines (not sure if that's the right phrase >_<). To be honest, it sounds pretty metal to me, and I rather like it that way. But also, another part of my honest opinion :D is that I still prefer most of the tracks off WtD to this one.
I haven't even listened to the live tracks. I am no big fan of live tracks, by anyone at any time to be honest. Live recordings totally -fail- to capture the live experience for me - one of the few cases when I'd rather watch a DVD, to at least attempt to get more senses into play... but that's another story. :relief:
Best of luck to all of you tryin to get tickets! :p

lol No its not a stupid question at all. Rep is that little scale o' justice thing at the bottom of the section where your icon is. If someone has said something intelligent, handled something well, given help to others (like you did with me), does a favor for you or a group either by request or on a whim or been very nice you give them rep. This basically accumulates like karma points and tells other that the person they're dealing with is trustworthy and helpful. If you get enough of em you become like Kinsao and become one of the scary people who has power over us all.

Wow, I like the PV. My friend sent me a link to a Korean website that has the entire PV. I don't have it now, because I'm dumb and didn't save the link... BUT.. if I get it again I'll post. When is the official release for that anyway?
The lyrics are very interesting, what I would expect from Kyo. Thanks for posting them!
Also I'm going to the Feb. 2nd FLA show, is anyone else going? I know it's their anniversary, which makes it even more exciting ^^ Have they done anything for their anniversaries in the past?
For agitated screams of maggots the release of it is today, but the pv I have no clue.

It's just Kyo screaming something I couldn't even understand when I read the lyrics.
this new one is kindda lame to me....i rather see them bang heads and have a story line to it like the old ones....

Headbangers Ball is a show on MTV2, but I'm not sure what time since I don't ever watch MTV2, but if you went to MTV's website you could probably find out what time it's on =?

Ok, so I ran into this from Go's Blog. And apparently it says Dir en grey has a nomination for an MTV award????

The article says that on the 15th a Japanese rock band, Dir en grey, was nominated for the first time on MTV. It mentions that Headbangers Ball is the program that nominated the "saku" pv, and that "saku" made it to number 4 on the Oricon charts (in 2004) and that it sold well.
And I didn't realize that Dir en grey was still referred to as visual kei (in Japan)? The article says the "visual kei band Dir en grey". :souka:

Thanks to those that helped me with my question.
Wow so Diru got nominated? Any idea as to what date in December?
I'm confused about what you guys are talking about too, but it sounds like good news, so I'm glad.
Anyways, I got to see them a few months back with the Family Values Tour down at Tampa and I even got to shake hands with Die and Kaoru and I got Withering to Death signed by everyone. It was so awesome. It was seriously like a dream come true.
Then, last week my friend told me they scheduled a show at the House of Blues here in Orlando for February 2nd and I just went crazy jumping up and down. I seriously can't believe it. I'm dying to see them again. They're definitely incredible to see in person. Tickets go on sale today and one of my friends should be going to get ours today. *melts* I so can't wait.

I still consider Diru to be a VK band, however I think that they've become more of a blend between Vk and Koi Kei now a days. Like any look VK has evolved to be able to survive in changing times (doesn't mean that I don't favor the old look tho' ). So while maybe they're not 100% VK I definitely believe that their look has a kei attached to it.

To start off, I respect your opinion and I don't think its right or wrong. (Just so no misunderstandings occur :-) )
But I don't consider them VK anymore. And they don't consider themselves VK either. To me they just look like a bunch of guys who love to rock. And currently the clothes they wear are more "normal" (though still very stylish) and they say they just wear whatever they want when they go on stage. There's no costumes or dress up. For me visual kei usually involves elaborate make up and costume to stir the "visuals." And since Diru doesn't do that anymore they aren't considered VK.

Yay! I'm happy for everyone that got their tickets already! I hope you all have a wonderful time and that there won't be any further hitches in the road for you.
@Precious4e Yeah I can see what you mean, hence the reason I put the koi kei in there as well. I think the days of visual as defined by MM and other bands are pretty much dead but I do think that koi is taking over in its place - even if they don't exhibit all the distinct looks for it. @___@ Ah! Who knows! I mean after all its to my understanding that the only person really defining koi now a days is MYV, right, however I've heard a number of people start to use the term to describe diru since they've started wearing the more toned down look. Guh, I've confused myself so I'll be quite.

^ It's in New York City. All the tickets are on sale now. I got mine already ^^
@hide my heart: koi kei is used to described basically all the bands in PSC lol especially Miyavi and Alice Nine and Gazette. Though I'm not even sure what koi kei really is, I read somewhere that it's more "glam rock." If it is then I can't really see Diru as that lol. I'm still wondering when the term koi kei even came out lol.

Yeah me too. o.o I didn't really think it applied and yet a bunch of people were using it when speaking of Diru, which was confusing since I've always applied it to MYV and Gazette. :? I dunno, I think its one of those terms that doesn't have a concrete definition yet? Oh well, I think Nana is going to come back with something so she can get me to shut up once and for all.
Does anyone know if any of the other sales have sold out yet? Obviously the fan base has somewhat multiplied like crazy in the states so it'd be interesting to see what happens. Didn't the last tour sell out in 36 hrs?

Well, artistically it was very well done. However I don't think any of it really fit that well with the song (not lyric wise, but music wise) . For me the music and the images were completely disconnected. Over all I think Diru could have done much better.

So my copy of the Agitated Screams of Maggots single came today, so I finally got to hear the song in full.
I really like it.
As much as people have been complaining about how all Diru has been making lately is loud and screamy Western-style metal, I really have to say that's true for the most part. However, you need to look past the surface. Yes, it's loud and growly and angry but... listen closely. Kaoru and Die are still weaving incredible harmonies underneath all the chaos, and I'm afraid no one is bothering to really listen. It's the same deal with Clever Sleazoid; there are so many great-but-subtle guitar parts in that song that get buried.
I guess it's okay to pine for the days of Missa and Gauze, but it's completely unrealistic to expect the guys to go back to that. If you ask me, Diru has been going in this direction ever since they wrote Zan.
Oh yeah, another great thing about Maggots (and Clever Sleazoid and Ryoujoku no Ame for that matter) is the production. My biggest complaint about Vulgar and Withering to death was that the drums were mixed too low and sounded really muddled. The last three singles tell me that they're wanting to showcase Shinya's new and aggressive style; everything is crisp and clean.
And the live version of Obscure is great.

Bravo for saying it Saishu! Personally I must agree with those who are complaining about the Western styled sound on this release. Normally I don't care too much about where the music comes from, but with metal I'm a bit picky and ended up sup rising myself when I blurted out "wow this is WESTERN" while taking my first listen.
But Die and Kao's work here is absolutely wonderful and is really in my opinion one of the best things going for it. While it seams so many people are busy complaining about Kyos screams no one stopped to say anything about how deftly and wonderfully the guitarists are weaving a supporting and contrasting web of music with it to really bring everything out. This album belongs to everyone in the band but the real hats go off to those who aren't singing this time.

I have to admit that I haven't always been crazy about Shinyas work - Yoshiki's pupil or no. Earlier he always sounded technically proficient but a little bit stiff. Somewhere along the line however he's managed to transform that into what's on the album today. I dunno, it seems that he's "warmed" to the position over the years. lol Although as a rule I still tend to prefer more emotional drummers (like Brian Viglione. )
But I do have to agree that the drum work is simply spectacular here. Shinya really has a nack for keeping the band going like nothing else when they're playing.

It's probably a bit late but i'm going to do my review of "Maggots" anyway:bluush: :
I agree with the majority of you who think the PV doesn't fit the song, it's kinda Iron Maidenish with isn't what i'd usually associate with Diru.
As for the song, I love the music, I like the vocals but something seems abit......off. I'm not sure what or why but the song doesn't seem right somehow.
Maybe I should start taking my brain pills again.:relief:

Oh nekkyo, I would if I could on this comp. But perhaps some other kind person will be able to hmm?
I think its pointless to sit around and pine for the old stuff because diru has obviously hit upon a new vein that they're going to be following for quite some time. Besides need I point out that this is only one song from the group, one needs to take a collective listen before making a judgement on wither or not this is a total make over in musical direction or not. In my opinion diru's best songs are never the ones they choose for PVs. Chances are when I pick up an album usually the weaker song on it is the PV one.
But that could just be me.
Anywho that being said I've already put in my two cents on the PV in an earlier post so I won't get into that again, but I will say that the more often I watch the more it grows on me.

I don't think diru will though, I appreciate the fact that they're giving American groups a chance but they're not stupid - they know who the fans have come to see and hopefully they'll deliver! : D ( :] maybe . . . :| hopefully . . . D: or not XD lol ).
OMG! Do you remember how everyone freaked last year? XD We had all these plans to like blow dart Opium and then play the spoons on stage if need be? lol But Opium was really great - they had such nice energy that was perfect for Diru. I was actually looking foreword to seeing them again.
