But they are making the kind of music they want to make... why be mad at them for doing what they want to do. I'm happy for them. :bluush:
is it because they want to? or are they trying to sell to america?

No more suffering for me. Not for a while anyways. Now that I have the songs to [Coll:Set], I will be in a Haven I've never known about for many weeks to come. Then I'll be pining to the Murder Day DVD even more. :(
I just can't stop listening to Infection :cute:  :cute:  :cute:  it's sooooooooooo beautiful!!!!
I agree with you pkk, Dir en grey is just making music, and doing what they want to do, and if they want to make heavier music right now, then let them make heavier music. I've always stood behind Dir en grey, I've loved everything and I still do. I'm also happy for them, I think that clip is just awesome. I can't wait till the next album comes out. ... I have an interview with Shinya and Kaoru talking about CLEVER SLEAZOID, if anybody's interested, I can post it...:?

miz: i can understand that, i've heard a lot of people say that.
OMG i do that TOOOOOOO!! i seriously thought i was the only one who sits there and listens to each part of the song! (i get very upset wheni can't hear Totchi and am constantly fixing the bass on my cd player during certain songs...:relief:) OMG i know those drums are THE SEX!! that and i LOVELOVELOVE the drums in Yokan!! i don't know why, but they are the reason i love that song!! i always enjoy Shinya's music because it's always a bit quirky like Ugly. :D he's so cool!

I get frustrated when I can't hear Toshiya, nao, Zero, or any other bassist in a song. I really love songs that you can hear the bass in, it's the finishing element of a song. Shinya's music is always very good. I love Ugly. It's one of my fav. Diru songs... aw to Hell with it, ALL of Diru's songs are my fav. :D :D :D

No... I don't think so. You think America of all places would be willing to pop out her shell and "accept" something that is doesn't sound like every crap piece of music that gets made here. No I think were safe from such horrible tragedies such as that. Besides... in a recent interview they asked "I see you use english lyrics in your songs. And touring over seas. Is there any hope of an english album." Die laugh and simply stated. "We're Japanese"

I think the Shinya-Kaoru interview was on JAME, was it not?
Hmm, I think that they just make what kind of music they want... all bands change somehow their sound over time, sometimes I don't like everything one band makes but only early stuff or later stuff... I like most of Diru's music so far though...
Average_Psycho
Aug 22, 2005, 18:32
Yes Kinsao, it was from JAME.... but for all the Diru fans, I'll post it here... just cause I'm so damn nice :D
Interviewer will be in red ink
Kaoru will be in purple ink
Shinya will be in blue ink
Nice to meet you, I represent Jmusiceuropa... and promise I won't ask you the meaning of Dir en Grey or what visual-kei really is about.
First of all, I'd like you to tell us about your next maxi-single a little: Clever Sleazoid. Musically, will it a ballad like Kasumi, something more violent like Saku, or in between like The Final?
Kaoru: It will be the most aggressive song in our history.
Who found the title for this song?
Kaoru: Kyo-kun did.
And what does it mean??
Kaoru: He's a vulgar and wise person, both at once. He's someone who went so far into darknesss and glaucous that he cannot come back from there.
Three live songs also appear on this maxi-single, where were they recorded?
Kaoru: They were recorded at our concert at Shinkiba Coast in late April.
I'd like to speak of your concerts in Europe now, first of all the one in Berlin. We could feel you were a little stressed at the beginning of the concert, how did you feel like?
Kaoru: We were very surprised when we saw fans waiting in front of the venue several days before the concert. We believed that people probably wouldn't move because it was so hot (nota: 32°C), but they shouted and moved a lot. We were glad, but we were scared.
Even before we came on stage, some people had already fainted. Kyo was worried. But the audience was quite motivated, so we were too. When we came on stage we were happy, and we were for all of the concert. No one got seriously injured, so we enjoyed the show.
At Rock am Ring you shared the stage with very improtant/famous bands, were you impressed?
Shinya: Every band there inspired us more or less, it would be too difficult to name one only.
Kaoru: We were very impressed. There was a huge contrast between Japan and Rock am Ring. We're famous in Japan, so we get the big dressing-rooms, while here we were with a lot of bands who are famous all over the world and our dressing-room was small compared to theses other bands'. It made us remember who we are. Before we came, we thought: We're gonna do the Rock am Ring, after that we can die!. Now we want to go on to get the big dressing-rooms.
About your concert in France yesterday now. How was it this time?
Kaoru: We are very happy we could play at the Olympia because this venue is very famous. But we had a little problem: it had been two months we hadn't played any concert, the last one was in Berlin. So we feared we could be a little rusty, but we got a lot of support from the crowd, who was yelling and getting excited. We arrived early in the morning and had nothing to do backstage. When we arrived on stage, we saw that the crowd was glad, and it went crescendo until the end of the concert. The two-three last songs were fantastic, we were at the level we usually are.
Shinya: What impressed me the most was that the balcony was very close from us, I had a perfect view over the crowd. I was very impressed by the audience.
Why don't you play Garden anymore, not even at the 5Blitz where you played a lot of songs from every album? Is this song part of a period of Dir en Grey you'd rather forget about?
Kaoru: It seemed natural for us not to play it at 5Blitz. We choose the songs we play depending on our mood. If we had to do the 5Blitz again now, set-lists could be different.
And finally: could you tell us about your plans for the future?
Kaoru: After the maxi-single that will be released in September, we're planning to go on tour in Japan until the end of the year and to do some promotion in magazines and on TV. But we can't tell more because nothing is official for now, nothing was announced. Next year, there will be a new album and an exclusive release for our fan-club. There will also be a big surprise very soon.
Thanks to the both of you for this interview!
Sadly, Shinya doesn't really contribute a whole lot to the interview. But he did contribute, even if only a little.

And I almost startet to cry when Kaoru talked about Berlin. i was there, and to know that they was scared before entering the stage is just too much.
 :-) Just read this one more time:

but see the japanese music industry is different, any major band would have to follow their comany's instructions and marketing ideas. maybe they thought their older style wont appeal to the American population, so they changed the style. i mean i really don't think America will accept guys dressing like girls, at least the government wont. the japanese is really interested in being "in trend" and i guess this is why a lot of the bands stop being VK. i like Diru for changing because it doesn't get boring, but after two albums, and from the sounds of the new single it sounds like they might go for the ssame style next album which has got me worried. they've lost a lot of the creativity in composing they had for their earlier songs.
@Average_Psycho: thanks for the interview!

^^ Any time. I also found the UV interviews about Vulgar... but I'm not sure anyone would be interested about those.....
I think the tickets would be a little cheaper than they sell them in Japan, I mean, they would be new to the audiences, and ... I dunno. The tickets probably wouldn't be above $50 -guessing from currency exchange-

People seem to think I imply things. I never meant to imply anything though, really! :sorry:
Hmm...... Die do his own side-solo-project. He does do good job doing back-up vocals.... -ponders- I think it'd be cool! -gives thumbs up-
Someone called raison detre NOT a good song! And TECHNO!? What are they on, crack? raison detre is one of my favouritest Diru songs!!! Especially the PV, Kyo's maimu dance is the funniest!!
Horizon : Just go to the official Diru site (www.direngrey.co.jp) and find the new releases page. That will take you to the CLEVER SLEAZOID sample page. You find the "Listen" clickie, and obviously, you click on it! Then you wait a short while until the sample loads and then you simply listen.
Have you heard anything from Withering to death.:?

lol ok maybe it's just me being weird...
lol ya i sent a fanmail asking if he is interested in doing one, although im not sure if they even read those... but yes Kozi did it, why shouldn't Die? XD
i was discussing Dir en Grey songs with about 3 people and i said i liked the old stuff. someone said that most of the songs on Gauze were bad and random, so i suggested Raison Detre as an exmaple of a catchy song. then someone said that it sounds like a techno song they play at raves... ?!_?!

Of course I know you have [Coll:Set], I still love you for uploading all the songs for me!!!!! But then again, you felt bad for me so....:?
Lucky you and having your income. :okashii: Too bad I'm too young to work and earn money that way. Oh well, doing housework at home for my parents isn't all THAT bad. I mean, dad's going to let me order my D'espa merch this weekend, so I don't think I can complain much.:relief:
But he has no reason to beat me.... Unless I do something to irritate him or something......... Wait, didn't we conclude that he may be the one into Bondage? If so.... then there in itself is my "beatage by Zero" serum.
Of course you are. I am so stupid for not realizing that important factor. Being a D'espa buddy is the awesomest thing I could ever be. But your awesomeness still out-awesomes mine. I'll only be awesome by loving D'espa so much! Not a bad deal, but I've never been awesome before.

"Sea of Retards" has been around for months... it's been coming up in my searches for the longest time... :souka: Haven't listened to it though. But I didnt mean you should not insult the song. The word "retarded" in itself is not an insult... it's a condition. Sorry but I'm sensitive to that sort of thing. I'm probably saying something that everyone already knows (and that's probably already been posted somewhere or other), but there's a Dir en grey interest survey over at free-will-america.com (http://www.free-will-america.com) that will pretty much determine whether us American fans get an offcial fan club. Check it out!
mizerable_d
Aug 29, 2005, 03:42

also i think it's bullshit if only americans can join the fanclub.
Japanimaniac
Aug 29, 2005, 05:35
Na, I don't think it should be American-exclusive, either. I think they should just open up an english-speaking section of their current fanclub. It kind of sucks that we have to be all separate n stuff.

Sep 21, 2005, 16:00
lol yeah - I have the full single too. I love the live version of Dead Tree!
Clever Sleazoid the song... I like it... but... I think Diru can make better. :sorry: I like the lush pickscrape at the beginning and the intro. The guitars are very crisp and there are some damn nice hooks. But they tend to get drowned out a bit by the vocal. I'm trying very hard not to be a "traditionalist" in my tastes because I know that is my tendency! And I do like heavier stuff (like Pink Killer for example, one of my total favourite songs!), in addition to the more melodic songs. And I'm unencumbered by too much Diru knowledge, so I can't get bogged down in "early/later" music comparisons. But personally I'd have liked to have heard a guitar solo! And I must confess to being disappointed not to hear the bass a little more. Although it complemented the song well, I really had to listen hard for it.
I think Kyo screams well in this song, especially at the start, where the screaming is good with the quieter talking-like section. Nice growling all through - but I do feel that the more melodic passages don't show his voice off as well as they could. It seems to be drowning in too many layers and I think that both the vocals and the guitars could benefit from being pared down a fraction in that quieter section to showcase them both a little more.
The pace of the song varies well, but the vocal, to me, doesn't vary the tone and the texture quite enough. It's a tight and competant piece alright; I would say it's "good", definitely, but in my heart it doesn't hit the "awesome" button that I know Diru is capable of hitting.
:bluush:
Sorry, I don't have time to write in more depth. :sorry: (work calls...)

Wow! I liked it a lot better now that I've heard all of it. Some of it even reminds me og good old blitz-norwegian hardcore and the mida-damedadamedadameda(or whatever) is so awsome!

I haven't paid too much attention to the vocals and I won't pretend I have... :sorry: I'm to stuck on the music right now... especially rhythm guitar and drums... I keep drowning Kyo out... you'd think it be harder to ignore him...
Umm... I would imagine something like Kureveru Surezoido ...though if I'm hearing correctly (and they are saying "Clever Sleazoid"... >.<) it sound like "Krever Rezoid" ...anyone else think Kyo says "Kiss my ***" in the beginning... I need to find lyrics... :D

while searching for lyrics I discovered that CLEVER SLEAZOID PV will premiere in Europe and US today on MTV. I DON'TWANT STUPID PEOPLE KNOWING THEM... this makes me so mad... my friend laughs at me cause everytime we go to record stores I check to see if they have Dir en Grey... they never to do and I sigh a huge sigh or relief and tell her I can live one more day... they are gonna release there music here... I don't want that... sure I hate paying ridiculous import costs... but it's worth it... In some ways I can sympathise with the way you feel, not wanting the "wrong" people knowing of Dir en Grey and just listening to their music because it's "latest thing" or some stupid reason like that. :okashii: But really, I don't give a **** where they are marketed and promoted or who listens to them. Maybe I'm just selfish like that, but as long as I can listen to them, I like them and everyone else can go hang. I'm not saying I'll hate them... I could never hate Diru (I hope ^^;)... I'd hate America even more... they won't even understand or appreciate what they are listening to... can you imagine now having conversations about the bands you know and love that when ever you mention them people go "wtf? who?" ...now suddenly people know who they are... it's weird... everything is already weird in my life right now... and now this... I have the lyrics... and I never would have guessed... the whole thing was in english apart from one line...
Clever Sleazoid
Wake up you’re dead
Doing meaningless sh*t over and over
I’m just a third-rated star covered in blood
See the prince on the rocking horse, his polishied face looks cool
I’m just gonna spill my guts on you
Under the name of Justice
You can’t break my soul
Under the name of Justice
Kill yourself
Think, you moran
Fall out of line you cockroach
Right, left, front, and back, it overflows with despair and pain
They say this anger, this emotion, and this passion is all a lie
Wither…
I’m not even trying to justify myself
Under the name of Justice
You can’t break my soul
Under the name of Justice
Kill yourself
Think, you moran
Fall out of line you cockroach
The dark dark Sunday, the blood stains
You can’t save yourself
The dark dark Sunday, the blood stains
One day I will f*ck your parents
This is the last time
Welcome to the garden of destruction
This is the last time
Welcome to the garden of destruction
聲も出ないくらいに...そんな今に一人と氣付く
The night is cold and long
The night sky is deep and wide
The dark dark Sunday, the blood stains
You can’t save yourself
The dark dark Sunday, the blood stains
One day I will f*ck your parents
(that one line in Japanese is - koe mo de nai kurai ni ... sonna ima ni hitori to kizuku. Translated it's - until even my voice won't come out anymore ... at this moment i realize i am one person)

If people are going to listen for stupid and shallow reasons, that's their problem, not mine. :smoke:
If I were you I'd just chill and treat them with the contempt they deserve. :smug:
Not to mention, even though it's insulting the band in a way, it would make them possibly a bit more richer... :p

Lol... I wasn't angry at all!!! :giggle:
I'm just like... actually I want people to like Diru... obviously not for dumb reasons like just because they're mainstream :okashii: ... but if people are gonna be stupid... let them get on with it and ignore them.
I'm totally unprotective towards music. If I had my way I'd make the whole world listen to all the songs I think are good!
I mean, people listen and they either think "hey, this rocks! I love it!", or they think "what's this crap?" ~flick over~ (or some reaction in between). And if they like, they'll look for more, and if they don't like, they'll ignore, right? If people think, "oh, everyone is loving Dir en Grey, so I'm gonna love them too" - I mean, that's just such a dumb reaction it isn't even worthy of any attention.
There's nothing more annoying than when you find a band new to you, and really like their music, and are all like "wow! this kicks ***!" and then you find someone who looks down their nose and says, "I was into these years ago - before they became mainstream". No way am I saying anyone here would go down that road... just... it's damn irritating, right? I had some friends like that at school, and they got really snooty when bands they liked became popular, and they would then stop liking them... they only wanted to be different. :okashii:
~ahem~ [/RANT] :sorry:
The lyrics... I love 'em... Read them yesterday, and, no, I wouldn't have guessed he was singing in English... at least, I did for some parts, but I hadn't a clue what he was singing... :giggle: Kyo is certainly wordmaster. :-)
Whee! MTV France is ok. All French people must love jrock! That's an order! :p

Those people would be .... me...?
I'm not saying I'll hate a band just because they're popular, but as popularity matters music often goes down the drain.
They start worrying about, will they like it? And if they worry about what the western fans will like, what will happen?
I wish they wuol keep doing japanese music(Though evolving, because it's great that they do). And I don't get why they're suddenly so into english lyrics...
Anyway, the pv is only on in France, not MTV-E? Because luckily there will be no reason for me to watch mtv! :balloon:

No way! I didn't mean anyone here!
It's a different thing hating a band because they are popular, and hating a band because you don't like their music. The first is total nonsense; the second is total sense. :relief:
If a band's music gets worse because they became more popular (either because they feel they don't have to put so much effort in any more, or because they are trying to appeal to a different market), then that's a perfectly valid reason to dislike.
I for one hope that Diru don't start worrying about what the western fans will like. I can understand them wanting to broaden their audience, but they should be trying to open the minds of the people to their music, not changing their music to suit the market.

mou... I haven't heard this newest single yet. *sobs*
I've only gotten to hear their songs recently - my first Diru song had been Cage and I was like, 'wow'. Granted, it wasn't what I'd usually listen to, but Kyo's voice and the music had me fallen immediately... And I never even understood their lyrics! Then, a quick surf through the net and I had the english translation of their songs, and ta-da! Hook, line, sinker. Diru's fanbase has another new member :bluush:

I don't actually mind people liking them... if they like them for the right reason... it's just foolish to think Americans will change there ways... there's too much empahasis on lyrics and "catchiness" and not enough on composstion and variety and originality... it makes me very bitter... I have very little tolerance for Americans... I try not to consider myself one... I think if Diru came here... it would only be for money... afterall... that is all America really cares about... quick money... :relief:

Noooooot meeee! It was Raison D'etre and Pink Killer for me... made me want to explore further... but it was Kisou album that made me love Diru... I don't see the hype about Cage... it's a good song yes... but c'mon... we all know Kisou and six Ugly are Diru's best works... :p

Raison D'etre is good, and I haven't heard Pink Killer yet, so I'll reserve my comment on that for the moment. *ducks any flying artillery that may come my way* By the way, I've just got my hands on Macabre *luffs Shinya's drumming*, and it wasn't bad at all!
I usually don't listen to rock music at all, unless you count Linkin Park as that, though I'm quite attracted to music like that of Maaya Sakamoto and instrumentals along the likes of E.S. Posthumus and the song 'Navras' feat. Juno Reactor and Don Davis. Now, Diru's got me kinda hooked to j-rock... Which leads me to wonder, what other J-Rock bands are good? Any songs to recommend?

About the new diru sound, it aint so bad i think, its just different.
Like any band the changed over the years, be cause the get older and stuff.
The only thing is the changed for 2 reasons i think:
- because the get older and stuff
- the looked at the future... concerts abroad, getting more famous (dont mind them seeing on my mtv :-) )
what a bad dream YOU had... i hope it won't come true cause that would be really :-( imagine if a lot of people would cosplay like jrockers and do the same thing like most japanese fans do... just to be cool.

-stares at you with great jealousy- if i had every cd... id be very poor and in debt...
does any one know what this song is about?
D'ya mean Clever Sleazoid? (I presume.) I read a critique somewhere, that say Kyo addresses himself to his fans/listeners... like message "if you don't like it you can **** off"... well at least, that the song is addressed at his public. :relief: (There's more but I can't be bothered to search for it... that's the general gist...)
I also found some commentary/critiques on a French forum, but I have to translate to English (it's not so easy! :sorry: )... I am not thinking well in English at the moment. :bluush: But... one critique says that it is representative of split personality, and saying that he (Kyo) is frustrated by society and in himself is in combat between what "is" and what "seems to be" (basically they are saying as a metaphor for schizophrenia). Well, I don't agree with that interpretation, but it was an idea from someone.....
Another commentary says he addresses himself to the classes (social classes); ruling classes ("you can't break my soul") and under classes ("think you *****, fall out of line you cockroach") to incite to resist and to open their eyes. They thought of "the dark dark Sunday, the blood stains" to be maybe a reference to Bloody Sunday, as a further image of the opposition between the "people" and the "rulers".
That seems to me a more likely explanation, but in short I don't think it can be really explained or necessarily needing explanation... Perhaps a mixture of metaphors between different critiques, I think! Anyway, who knows what is the meaning of Kyo's lyrics?

It seems political to me... :? but then again I'm surrounded by that sort of thing here since the hurricanes and perhaps that has transcended into my interpretation ...it feels very Nazi/Communist themed to me... :?
I relate to it in my own way... being locked up... restricted... the conformity of everything... everyone has to shop at certain stores, eat certain foods, have strict curfews and rules, etc. ...you can't leave a store without being searched or no more than 2 people can enter a bank at once... right now... I can relate to this song a lot... I think that's why I'm so attached even if it isn't Diru's best work...

HOLY HELL I LOVE THIS SONG!! to me, this seems really different for Diru.. once again, i am near tears because i love Diru so very, very much.
really? you guys don't want other people knowing Dir en grey?? i like spreading it because i want more people to realize how wonderful they are. because i KNOW they are the best, and i want other people to know. of course i don't want stupid preppies to know like them just because "it's cool to like them". ergh, the thought makes me want to vomit. but i DO want people who appreciate music for the music to know. that's why i spread it as much as i can.
and i have to agree with PK and AP about Diru. i can honestly say there is not a single Diru song i do not like. i cannot in good concious say "this is not as good as their other stuff, i don't like this, it's too american, etc. ect." about ANY of their songs. even ones other people absolutely hate, i STILL love them. and i will love them and whatever they create no moatter what. in fact, i have to say, every time something new comes out, i like it better than the previous stuff. not to say i stop liking the old stuff, it's just as Diru grows, my love for them does too. with each new song, my heart swells more with pride because these are the five men who i love and admire more than anybody in the whole world. honestly. it may seem strange to some how i could totally and unconditionally love five men i have never met, but i do. and i'm not talking superficially. in any case, what atracted me to diru first was NOT their physical appearances, and that will NEVER be what i love most about them. truth be told, i was at first put off by their image because it was extremely shoking and like nothing i had ever seen before, and i don't do too well with changes. i had a weak stomache for blood and gore and all things vulgar, and i admit i had to FORCE myself to sit down and watch the GAUZE PV DVD because i liked the music, and even still spent most of that period of time gagging and retching. i have never felt so ill in my life. :relief: but i got used to it because i love the music, and now i love them for everything. and i can say, honestly, that Diru has allowed me to break out of my shell and become the person i wanted to be. i had been pretty unhappy with my lif up to that point, and didn't really feel like i fit in, and as stupid as it sounds, Diru showed me it's okay to be really different. and at least now i can watch bloody movies with out feeling like i'm gonna throw up...:relief: sorry if i'm rambling a bit, but i love Diru so much and this song is so good i just have to gush, ha ha...
haha, wow i go on forever...:relief: :D
anyway, do any of you guys know when the new album will come out?? and is Dir en grey coming to America this winter??

Is it true that Diru hates their european fans? I mean, I am a fan, so that would mean they hate me but.... I just get that feeling.... They don't seem to put as much effort in their european concerts as they do in their japanese...
Please dont hate mail me now, that is just how I feel. for ex. look at Vulgarism DVD and the Paris concert... Kaoru didnt move an inch during the live!! I don't know, maybe I'm just paranoid, having a bad day....
I'm so confused. And depressed.

One more reason why i am going to tell my mother to buy it for me for christmas! :D
I don't think they would hate their European fans... after all, fans = sales!
I remember reading in the interview that they were a little nervous before their live in Germany... maybe if they were nervous about their European lives that would explain why they were less, uhh, mobile? :clueless: (although I don't really see why that would be the case...) Or, it could just have been that for that live, they were more tired or something? :?
I guess they didn't really know what to expect from European fans, and maybe not sure of their chances in Europe either. But the fact that they're releasing WTD in Europe bodes well, I think!

They are artists, they want to sell their CDs.... Apperently, they lost a lot of fans in japan when their Vulgar CD came out so.... But I really hope that I'm just paranoid.

just wanna say that I thought the PV Obscure and Saku was a bit hard core, but I REALLY enjoy it :-)
and recently I just got a chance to see "Ain't Afriad To Die",
different from the two bloody hard core PV but it was absolutely GREAT!!!!!
I would say that Kyo is quite talented, heehee
he can go all crazy but calm down and sing nice song like "Ain't Afriad To Die", I loved it!
i like Cage, but i can't stand the PV .. it's sooooo ... well, i just can't see it ^_^;;;;
i like yurameki very much, the song and the PV .. they looked very cute there ^///^

My fav's are Cage, Yokan, KRCube, Ain't Afraid To Die, Hydra, Embryo, Child Prey and Berry.
My favorite members are hard to decide I like them all for so many different reasons. Kyo's voice and stage presence is just mesmerizing, I LOVE DORKS Toshiya=Dork meaning I LOVE TOSHIYA. DIE I know its mean but I love how he always picks on Shinya. Kaoru, as good as DEG is there would be no DEG without Kaoru. Shin is just so freaking powerfull on those drums.

Anywho...the song that I listen to over and over right now would have to be Merciless Cult, however the first time I ever heard Zakuro, it made me cry lika a baby and really left an impression on me...and I'm also really digging Clever Sleazoid right now, too!

Yea that interview is awesome. But I have a question? Can we like start this thread over, cause this forum seriously needs a Dir en Grey thread. But can we pretend as if the first 3 pages didn't happen. Cause for real, some of those posts were so rabid fangirl and tarded, the thread didn't say anything worth saying it was just 3 pages of I LoOoOoOoVe Dir En Grey Kyo is so hawt, shinya is so hot, die is so smexy, toshiya omg i lub you.
So to everyone how did you get into Dir en Grey. With me its kind of funny, cause I was one of the ones who heard the "wrong song " it turned me off. And then about 8 months ago I met this girl who loved them. And she eased me into the world of Dir en Grey and now I love them, ironically the wrong song is now a favorite song Berry.
omg, nana007, I really really luv your signature, MYV & MYV, that's a GOOD one!:giggle:
one of my favorite song from Dir En Grey is "Ain't afraid to Die"
I felt you can really read a lot into that song.....and it's just absolutely great
I'm kinda new to DEG n I got all interested

which song did you guys think that the meaning was very deep? or was your favorite?

"Ain't Afraid to Die" is one of the j-rock masterpieces. I also like "Mushi" the first time I read the lyrics I was like omg how do you know how I feel?
Ain't afraid to die was the first Dir en grey song I heard - and actually, it didn't grab me that much then. *hides from AATD fans* :sorry: So I didn't look up anything else by them until I read a description of their music and thought 'that *really* sounds so much like I would love it'... and I downloaded Cage... and since then... never looked back, hehe. I don't like absolutely totally every song they made 'because they're Dir en grey'... but... I likevery most of them :p
hahaha omg -_- the first dir en grey song i heard was marmalade chainsaw.. and i remember just putting it on repeat.. just played OVER AND OVER.. haha but then the first pv i saw of theirs was child prey... and im sorry to say -_- but that pv and that song was like... not the best to start off with... hahahha but oh well =D LOVE diru =P

Dir en grey is an amazing band. I love their music and all of the members are really nice =). I met Toshiya and Die back in 1998 and 2000 and then I met La:Sadies in 1995 or 1996 (that was before I realized that all but kisaki formed Dir en grey XD). Anyways, the first song I heard by Dir en grey was GARDEN and I really liked it.
Riyko, you're so lucky that you got the chance to meet them! :-) Ahh, I think I'm envious a little... ;-)

This is a conversation I had about 6 months with somebody. At my school there was this Japanese exchange student there and we were having a conversation about J-Rock, and while talking I mentioned Dir en Grey and she was like "Oh, you like them?" and she told me that she was never really a fan, but that they are ok at times, but that in Japan they really aren't that popular or even well known. And that most people stopped liking them when they changed their image.
I'm not sure if this is true or not, and I know that they still are doing good cause WTD did pretty good. But really from someone who knows what is the status of their popularity in Japan. Also Miyavi too (although this should be posted in the Miyavi thread). She said that Miyavi was like a one hit wonder sort of ( I know THAT is not true)
Well, Furan said that when she went to Japan and talked about music to people, Dir en grey were not so well known. More people had heard of Kagrra, *dances the love Kagrra, dance*    *coughcoughsorry*
My Japanese ex had never heard of Dir en grey until he met me :okashii: and although he'd heard of Malice Mizer and Kagrra, (vaguely :okashii: ) he did point out to me that none of the bands I was into weren't mainstream in Japan and weren't especially well known...... with the exception of Gackt. :okashii: :buuh:

I know that most Visual Kei is underground. So not alot of people will know of it. And I did know that Dir en Grey was sort of obscure, but not that much. But to say they aren't that well known when they do pretty good on the oricon charts is baffling.
I know here in the U.S.A, even if you dont like a band, if they make it anywhere near the top 20 list, you will here of them like alot, until they either make it BIG or fade into obscurity. And it baffles me, that even if you dont like Dir en Grey or any other band, how even with they years they have and the top 10 singles they have people dont know them.
And on a side note go Kagrra, *joins you in Kagrra, dance* :silly: :singer: . Become extra popular so that you can get enough american fans to come here.

But the point I really wanted to know *coughKagrra, gotmeoftopiccough* is are they loosing fans, in Japan. We already know the split between western fans, but was it really bad in Japan. Cause my friend she basically said its not cool to listen to Dir en Grey anymore. (I dont care about being cool I'm already not cool cause I listen to J-Rock). And I know what she said about the Miyavi being a one hit wonder is not true because since signing with universal he's been getting even more fans in the U.S and . (I even got my bestfriend who used to say That's a Girl to listen to him, although he still grumbles about his looks)
Hmmm, I think only someone who's lived in Japan for a while could answer that one. :?
yeah, a japanese friend of mine dun know dir en grey, she was like....are they a new band or what?...i think L'arc en ciel is one of the big hit in japan. She said that if you talk bout l'arc to most japanese people, they'll know who you talkin bout...but i dunno...
I think it's wrong not to like a band or stop liking a band because they changed their image. You should like a band because of their music and not their style. That's my opinion! :box: I hope it's not true what you guys are telling about Dirus suport in Japan. I LOVE DIRU:love:

For an unknown band its amazing that they have fans all around the world and even play shows in germany.
I have never seen a band that keeps the same sound and look. Sometimes bands do lose fans i.e Korn but thats just because they changed their sound for the worse. Even though DEG sound and look is drastically diffrent from their early days their new sound and lyrics are still awesome and I hope they stay around for another 10 years.
As for my fav member I like them all they are all special and cute in their own way.

Yea but what I hear Japanese fangirls can be rabid, even more so than the west. I mean Gackt divorced his wife because the fans were hackling her so much. Does anyone remember when DIE changed his hair, if you dont remember don't worry you didn't miss anything. He changed it back cause they bitched so much. And how everyone bitched when Toshiya cut his hair. And the only reason Kyo has the abs he has now (if you look back he wasn't ripped at all) was cause fans said he was getting fat.
Fans like that just piss me off. Nuff said.
Dir en grey lost ALOT of fans in Japan after they released Vulgar because their music style was alot different from the previous albums and the fans didn't want them to change their style of music, but they also gained alot of new fans with the release of Vulgar.
About what your friend said about Dir en grey not being popular over in Japan, When I went to japan earlier this year all of their concerts we're sold out and you couldn't find any of their cd's, dvd's or things like that in stores because the we're all out of them. They might not be as popular in the smaller area's of Japan, but in the big area's their well known mainly by school kids.

I got this off of wikipidea.com
"Their latest album is Withering to death. and the support tour is called It withers and withers. Separately of Withering to death's promotion, Dir en grey visited Germany and France to perform at Rock im Park and Rock am Ring on May 28th, June 3rd, and June 4th 2005.
On September 21, 2005, Dir en grey released a new single, CLEVER SLEAZOID, which also contains three live songs from the album "Withering to death," which was released in 2005.
It is worth noting that Dir en grey also played a live by themselves in Berlin in May 2005, selling out 3,500 tickets to Columbia Hall in 3 days.
After 'Clever Sleazoid' was released, it made it's way to #15 on the Official Finnish Single Chart. Withering to Death made its way to #31 on the Official Finnish Album Chart, TOP40. Note that this was the second time Dir en grey appears on a non-Asian chart, the first time being the WTD-album at #31."
Kind of amazing for an unknown band that has little fans dont you think?

I actually came into Dir en Grey during Vulgar, and while I like they older stuff alot. I am LOVING the new stuff. And I don't even LIKE Nu-Metal.

It's not that Dir en grey have little fans, but they are not well known in the mainstream. Even if their CDs reach high positions on the charts. The majority of people I've asked about them, have either not known them at all, or said they have heard of them but don't know much about them.
The exception I guess is actual fans of Visual Kei. The ones I've met.. know Dir en grey. Visual Kei is not considered "normal", I think most people don't like it, think it's stupid, and not cool, etc.. So they don't know the bands, of course (even if Dir aren't considered 'visual' anymore... I still get "oh, Dir en grey.. they are a Visual Kei band"..) And it's true many fans stopped liking Dir when they "changed".. But I think they've gained more fans who like them for what they do now.
I don't worry about how many other people like something or know about this or that.. Just like what you like! :p

I have not heard all of DEG since im a new fan I have only seen some PVs. I have alot of catching up to do!
They are really good live as well. I love when they do mushi live. When I first saw it I thought kyo was seriously crying and hurt. I felt so sad and hell I was about to cry. I have never seen a band perform a song like that.
it's more like the sayin...you gain some, you lose some...well, dir en grey have gain my love for them even more when they changed...i mean i love them how they used to be but i love them even more now cause they are, from my point of view, being what they want to be.
it's very hard to change and well, they did. therefore they are hella strong. not a lot of people are willing to change when society is right behind them.
Oh yeah - I'm certainly backing Dir en grey. :p As it happens, I like their music all through - but even if I didn't, I'd still majorly respect them for doing what they want to do.

There is a time in every mans life when he gets tired of PVC, Bondage Gear, Dresses, and Make Up. And as much as I loved my Diru wearing the following, alas they have outgrown such things. But I will always have my memories, pictures, and PV's. Everyone lets have a moment of silence for the loss of visual diru...
Okay moment of silence up I love their new look and their new sound. I think most fans are stuck in the cage era. And while I absolutely love Cage, you have to move on everything and everybody evolves, and it is only natural that Dir En Gray move on. Each album had a different sound. But if you go back and listen you can see that the change in their sound wasn't as sudden as most people say it was. Most people are like Boom Overnight Dir en Grey changed. But I say it was very gradual. I mean if you take the time and listen you hear it.
And I love what they are doing now. I think that it is just awesome.
Something else alot of people don't realize about Dir en grey is the older they we're getting the more they matured with their music. No one's music will never stay the same because without changes music will get boring after a while. I love all of their music from the beginning to now because they have so many different and unique styles to all of their songs, it's not something you hear alot in music.
There is a time in every mans life when he gets tired of PVC, Bondage Gear, Dresses, and Make Up.
Classic. :-)

I love Cleaver Sleazoid. I personally am not a fan or hard rock/metal. But it is just so awesome. I listened to it on repeat for like 2 hrs. It wasn't until the second hour that i figured the WHOLE song was in english. I could tell some of it but I didn't know all of it was English except for one measly line in japanese.
Anyways. I am so not goth. I have alot of black. But for the most part I dress hip hop which is like anti goth.
I do have alot of random items I wear all the time that are associated with goth. Like I have a ton of striped stockings, and fishnets. Corsets (I have 3). But thats just cause my style of dress is really ecletic. Its like hip hop/ meets punk meets prep all at one time on one person. It sounds bad but most people love how I dress (won best dressed in hs.)

:yeahh:   :cute:  :smoke: :smug: :crab: :mail: :crab: :smug: :smoke:  :cute:   :yeahh:
Well I did not specify in the email that I would like it hand delivered by Diru... it is my fault... :bawling:
Nah... he was lucky... I was in the shower when it was delivered... :smug: :D
I was nominated for most creative and also for most artistic... but I was up against popular people and you know how that goes
Yup - another awesome dance. :-) :p
Eeee, even more of a shame in that case that it wasn't Kaoru who delivered it! :D :umbrella: XDDD =)
*Thinks of 'shower' and 'Kaoru' in the same sentence and goes dizzy and keels over*   *thunk*
(I am sorry... I am not so good and... uhh.. Diru-ways-pure as you... :gomen: forgive me...)
Cool! Is that at college/school? we never had such contests... in fact we had to wear a UNIFORM! Bleeeeeeeuughh... :okashii:

did you have any doubts? :smug: :D
Don't say that!!! if Kaoru was at my door and I was in the shower... I'd never forgive myself for not answering and melting in his awesome presence  :( :bawling: :faints:
Kinsao you lucky person you... I wish I could think of Kaoru innappropriately again... even if I tried I'd gross myself out and feel the need to wash my brain with soap :bawling:  oh well... I must settle for Shinya with braids... :( which isn't so bad I might add :silly:
That was high school... I dropped out my first college art class after 2 weeks... :D I just couldn't take drawing with rulers and french curves... what kind of art is that give me naked jrockers to draw... :silly: :D

give me naked jrockers to draw...
Classic, simply classic.
And it was in HS. My University is so big (28000) me and my little clique is nothing. Besides I'm known cause I am that cute but weird girl who hangs with so and so. Most people who know me, think I am cool but a little weird (you know the whole J-Rock thing). Most people don't know how to handle me.

Sorry for the double post, but here are lives... I didn't know whether to post in the live picture thread... Sorry there are a disproportionate number of Kyo and only a few of the other members... :(

I love Dir en grey. They are one of the greatest bands of J-rock, yes? How stupid, to stop liking them because they change their look! How people can be really senseless like that? I can understand if people do not like a part of their music, because they change their music and not each one has the same taste. But to stop liking them because they do not get dressed up is really idiotic and childish, I think.
I like all their music. Not each song so much as others, naturally, but I likes all their musical styles. But it is true that their music earlier was less heavy, and perhaps some dislike a heavy style, so they stop being fans.
Placebo, I send to you Dir en grey mp3s and PVs if you would like? Do you want?
Ah, I like the emotion in their executions of live performance. It is really sincere and special.
Nice pictures! I want much to see them live one day!
