Wow, those pictures were awesome. Kyo always has some of the nastiest expressions on his face during his lives, I love it. I wonder what the people were thinking when the saw this little japanese guy on stage. He looks so little on the picture of him on that amp, like "Yay I did it".
I still think that Dir en Grey is Visual Kei. Even though they aren't as, visual as they were say 3 years ago. The band especially Kyo, looks visual. Like Dir en Grey now comes in 2 flavors, VK Heavy and VK Light. Compared to none VK bands in Japan, they still have a VK influence that you can see.

Don't quote me on this because I could be wrong, but I believe that it was only Die and Shinya who went to New York for some type of class or classes.

I've seen some pretty sweet photoshopped pictures LOL I am a photoshop master you could say and overlooking the photos, the one with Die looks real. That guys hair is all frizzy and it would be very hard to get all his fly aways perfect like that. The one with Shinya looks like it could be photoshopped, but I don't see why someone would do that. It seems pretty pointless and lame in my oppinion. Sure they could keep the pic of Die real since there isn't anything in the background, the one with Shinya could have been like that too and he put a NYC background in it to make it as if they were in NY. I doubt that though haha. Next time I talk to diru i'll have to ask I guess!

Haha, would YOU be extraordinarily happy to be with that guy? It looks like he was just a fan who spotted them on the street and got a picture with both of them. I think Shinya and Die look so cute with the kind of 'confused' look that's on both of their faces.

Dec 16, 2005, 18:22
Hmmm, I dunno but I think they're real. Don't know why I think so, though (not like I'm a PhotoShop master or something!) - just a gut feeling. I saw them on Batsu. I guess I just thought there's no reason why Die and Shinya couldn't have been in NY and have their pic taken with a fan... good for him! (I heard somewhere that they don't normally like to have their pic taken with fans... but... I think that being a guy might have given Ramiel something of an advantage... :okashii: I heard that Dir are a bit cagey of the rabid fangirls... )
If they are fake, though, well, someone is just a loser with too much time on their hands.

I think they are real. Unless someone is a photoshop pro, because look at the hairs on top of Shinya's head. That would be really hard to do and match with the background. Also the scale of the background. I laughed at your comment Tiff, "would YOU be extraordinarily happy to be with that guy?" What kind of name is Ramiel anyway? (I love how we always resort to making fun of people for no apparent reason.)
"I think that being a guy might have given Ramiel something of an advantage..."

I think there is something wrong with how he took the photos if you think about.
If you saw two members of your fav band wouldnt you have them both in the photo? Even if you had one take the photo then they switch places you would stand in the same place. Unless he spotted them in diffrent locations but what are the odds of that happening in crowded arse NY that he runs into two members on the same day possibly during the same time frame and gets them to take picture with him.
grenadeglovegirl
Dec 17, 2005, 02:35
Yeah, but maybe he had one of them take the picture while the other was in it. Like Shinya took the picture while he was with Die. hehe, maybe he didn't trust other random New Yorkers with the camera as they could have run away with it. hehe
Placebo
Dec 17, 2005, 02:54
I talked about that in my post see....
Even if you had one take the photo then they switch places you would stand in the same place.
He should have the same background because it would just be the two of them switching unless he moved for some reason and if he did move the question is how far is shinyas background from dies if its farther than a few steps then its probably a fake photo.

Dec 17, 2005, 03:18
Why do the most retarded discussions start about things like this? lol (No offense to anyone, not making fun of individuals, just the topic itself.) Why would you have to stand in the same spot for a photo? What if Die took the photo of him and Shinya, and then Ramiel walked over to Shinya to have the photo with him? I can't believe I'm even replying to this haha. Who cares if it's photoshopped or not, the guy at least met them, and Dir en grey have been in New York before! I'll give him props for meeting them, and if I ever do, I'm going to purposely stand in front of a different scene with each band member!

Dec 17, 2005, 03:22
haha my thoughts exactly! I was just thinking... why are people even going on about something like this? Who cares if it's photoshopped or not. I sure don't haha. If it is then mad props to whoever made it! great job! if not, then that was awesome for that dude to get pics with Shinya and Die. . I would rather get a picture with individual members myself, rather then with the whole band or whatever. I mean has anyone really even notice any of the photoshopped pictures I have posted on here lol... I totally posted some photoshopped pictures of D as a joke with my sisters face on the girl... no one seemed to notice lol.

Mmm jrock juice on a hot summer's day is sooo refreshing haha. Man I bet that Dir en Grey will look a lot better for their age if they do that. Asians usually age more gracefully lol. Plus the Rolling Stones did so many drugs and drank so much it really messed up their aging process even more (you know the big head syndrome from drinking too much haha don't ask) Do you think Dir en Grey is pop? haha im just kidding. I can't wait to se diru... hopefully in 2006! (speaking of rolling stones I love the song painted black)

Asians do age gracefully, but they aren't the best agers IMO. Yea, if they became the Rolling Stones of Japan that would be great. I mean they are already getting up there, they aren't the fresh youths they were in 1997. And while they might not drink or drug like the RS remember, They are pretty big drinkers, I mean come on Japan is a country where to see a salaryman passed out next to his vomit is pretty common, and even not frowned upon. And of course the have SAKE. I am a person who can take a shot of Vodka to the head like water, but the first time I tasted o-sake I was on the floor crying for my momma.

Happy birthday Die!
I found some intresting stuff on Wikipedia about Kyo while looking at the band members birthdates
"He remains partially deaf in his left ear after a prolonged sickness in 2000."
~ Kyo once fought with his family and said he was going to leave home. His grandfather/father (depending on which variation of the story) told him to leave his clothes behind because he did not pay for them, upon which Kyo stood outside in the cold for hours before his parents apologised.
~ Kyo likes and is good at swimming (one of the stranger rumours)
~ Kyo was once hit on the head with a fire-extinguisher by a friend
~ Kyo hates being called 'Kawaii' and once broke a staff-member's nose for calling him that
~ Kyo nicknamed his penis 'PP.'
I think the one about him being called kawaii is true because I saw a clip where he was doing an interview someone called him kawaii and he got a pissed look on his face.

Just wanted to to confirm I think this band is kick-*** :D
Really good Guitar and Bass Riffs by Toshiya, Die and Kaoru and Die has a great singing voice too (though I only understand about 5% of the lyrics :D, but thats beside the point) Shinya I dont have any points on because I really dont interest me so much for drums, though it is an important weapon in a rock band.

Withering to death in America!
Dir en grey will make their long-awaited first American release with Withering to death. on March 7. It will be released as a cd/dvd set, the dvd containing live footage of "Merciless Cult" as well as PVs for "SAKU", "Machiavellism", and "THE FINAL". As of yet, the price of this set is unknown.
posted by Krystin, on 26/12/2005 source : WARCON official site
Dir en Grey finally releases their album in the U.S. whoohoo. Yay! But alot of people I know already have "Withering to Death". But if they are releasing an album that means they finally will tour. THANK YOU. But I wonder if they are working on some new singles or a new album. I mean Withering to Death is kind of old in Japan and In Europe. I hope they aren't concentrating on crossing over that they aren't making new music.
I can see Dir en Greys checklist it probally goes something like this:
Japan (check)
Asia (check)
Europe (check)
U.S.A
Canada
South America
THE WORLD
lol So I guess this is the BIG SURPRISE they were talking about in the interviews or maybe it is something else.
Although I am kind of scared of the American Media. The European Media except for a few interviews I didn't like how they potrayed them. AND ANYONE in the USA should know our Media can be a *****.
OH Well Dir en Grey Ganbatte, And If you come anywhere on the East Coast or South. It is gauranteed I will be at your show. And if you tour the West Coast first, I am already doing some major money saving, and plotting of a way to get my boss to give me the necessary time off.:relief:

You know, I've got mixed feelings about DeG. I like the way they change their style that suits them best for each era, regardless of what fans think.
But at another rate, they arent the greatest of musicians.
Shinya, in my ears, has improved greatly over the years, but the others havent all too much.
Especially Toshiya. Sure, he plays some 'relatively' challenging basslines, but for the most part, he lacks personality in his playing.
As traditional musicians, I personally think they all could use a pointer or two *minus Shinya, who has improved*. But as trendsetters, they are one of the two most influencial bands in Jrock of the last 10 years, no doubts about that.
I agree that individually they're not the best of musicians but together as a band they work really well. Mikami-san from Fra-Foa was the driving force behind the band. She created the lyrics, composed the music and was their vocalist. Her two other band members, the drums and bass, weren't all that remarkable.
You would think that going solo, she should be just as successful or even more so now that she can work with different instruments and styles right? Well, no. At least in my opinion. Her voice seems to lose it's strength to the new musicians working with her.
Many singers do become successful after going solo (eg. Gackt), but I think what makes a good band isn't about each member's talents. Sure, they need to be up to par with their skills as musicians, but more importantly they need to be really tuned into each other and to simply 'fit' for lack of a better work.
Kinsao
Dec 29, 2005, 09:26
They aren't spectacular musicians in terms of playing super-flashy solos etc.
To me, their greatness lies in the composition - the way they put the songs together.
POISONxIVY
Dec 29, 2005, 11:35
Hmm... I am shocked that you guys don't think Diru are good musicians! I think that Shinya is a great drummer, and Toshiya is a great bassist. Die and Kaoru are decent at guitar, a lot better than most guitarists I'd say. They have definitely improved, but most muscians do especially if you are playing for hours every night on tour. I am a musician and have been for over a decade and I think that Diru individual, or as a band are quite talented song writers and musicans.

yeah i agree wif rynn..even though they change their style always but all their songs have that distinct diff. it's dir en grey's special style that makes you know immediately that it's diru and not other bands. one day i heard someone playing a song when i walk past the shop and just by the opening music and drumming style(kyo didn't start to sing yet), i immediately knew it was diru even though i'm not familiar with that song..i don't know if anyone ever experienced it? :souka: shinya's drumming is also very special and diff. that's y i like them so much:-) ..um..i know every band is diff and special in it's own way, but sometimes the most distinguishable sound is in the vocalist itself(like sometimes i need to hear the vocalist voice to know which band that unknown song is from)..but with diru,i dont hav to hear kyo's voice to know it's a deg song. um ..well, feel free to disagree wit me if anyone wants, but that's just my opinion on diru for myself, it doesn't mean that others feel the same as me
yeaaa rika-shinya thats exactly what i was tryin to say~!! :D u can tell its them even tho its sumfin u havnt heard before... which is what makes them good~!! totchi ish soo love!!

I have a question regarding Dir en grey songs. There are a lot of songs that I'm not familiar with and I can never find any information on them. I don't know if they are really Diru songs or not, and if they are, I'd like to know what they were from.
I have two songs; Sea of Retards is one, what in the heck is this from and when was it done? Scars is the other and it doesn't sound like Kyo. And two songs I don't have; Psycho and Rain.
I would also like to request a couple songs as well. I have Waza (Karma) from [KAEDE] ~if trans...~ and I have heard Sangeki no Yoru (Tragedy Night), but I don't have that one.

Some people may not think they are "the best" as musicians, but I do and that's all that matters to me. Their style is great [-er, -est], and I think I have never heard more talented bassist than Toshiya. There are many musicians, who play [almost] as well as him, but I don't know how someone could say he's not good. As mentioned already, the best ones don't need to show off ;3

@normphobic - i encountered the same problem too! i figured the best way to find out if it's really a diru song or not is to go to the official site and check the discography..and yeah, i downloaded scars too because i've never heard of a diru song with that title and i was thinking the same thing..like wtf this is not kyo's voice..so i deleted it and have no intention watsoever to find out who did that song x.x i felt like i'm being cheated on..just not that serious ^^;
i agree too! that the best doesn't need to show off because everyone already knows that =P gah..this sentence has been repeated so many times :p

Dir en Grey is a great band, not because they are the best technical and skill wise but because of the members themselves, In my opinion you can't say that one person makes Dir en Grey or that one person carries the band. Kyos vocals are great but without the great music that Kaoru composes it woudn't work. Like wise with Kaoru as great as him music is the vocals that Kyo does finishes it off. Same thing with Die, Shinya and Toshiya, Die may not have the most solos or even play the greatest solos (but he does have some pretty awesome ones) take away his part in the songs and they would be incomplete. Same thing with Toshiya's Bass, and taken from the movie drumline (paraphrasing so its not 100 correct) the drums are the most important part of the band, as they are the backbone of the band, Shinya might always be stuck and immobilized at the back of the stage, but do a concert with out him and I promise you people would want their money back.

Jan 4, 2006, 15:34
That's completely true. I was thinking just days ago, what would Dir en grey be if someone left the band or something, and the result is - it wouldn't be Dir en grey anymore. Still, I don't think someone would even leave the band, since they have all said it's very important for them. And that's the way it should be :-). It's quite amazing, how well they fit together, since many other good (and not-so-good) bands have for example changed their vocalist, and that's maybe the most radical thing a band can do without breaking up (in my opinion). Go Diru.

I know I'm ignoring this place but I was looking for more Shinya pictures cause I feel like drawing him... I couldn't resist posting this and making others laugh at how ignorant and superficial some fans are... not one mention of her liking of their music :souka:
Yay Dir en grey! : D One of the best looking bands ever in my opinion. ^_^ They were a gothy visual rock indie band until they caught the attention of none other than Yoshiki of X-Japan, and he offered to produce the five singles on their next album.. and now they're one of the biggest visual rock bands in Japan. ^_^ They're led by Kaoru.. who writes most of their music, and has the coolest pink hair ever! heehee. ^_~ Kyo writes all the lyrics which are usually very dark and really good. ^_^ Half the time he sings in a low emotional voice and the other half he screams like a psycho.. and often in the same song.. so he sounds really crazy, hehe. Die has probably the most distinct song writing style of the band, and he's into lots of German stuff.. in their earlier days he would wear Nazi outfits and swastikas and stuff.. hehe. Toshiya's their very pretty bassist, and he's cute even without makeup too. ^_^ Shinya's gorgeous too.. even though he doesn't do the dragqueen thing as much as he used to.. and he's gay! Yay! : D ~hugs him~ Well.. he probably is anyways.. he's kinda shy and hasn't said he is directly.. but if you read the interviews he makes it pretty obvious.. heehee. ^_~ Dir en grey released their second album Macabre in September and I think it's their best stuff yet. ^_^
is she serious? :souka: ... :souka: ...... :souka: ............ :D  ...where is that fork stabbing smilie when I need it? :worried: it seems so appropriate for what I'd like to do to people who sound like that...

Dir en grey coming to the USA.
Dir en grey have been invited to the South by Southwest festival.
http://2006.sxsw.com/music/festival/ (their name is on the list here)
It's not confirmed on any official site yet, but I think it might happen.
Tickets to this are apparently $475 (O_O) but that lets you see every performer.
There is also (more) rumour of an actual US tour, but there's no certain information about it still.
So.. you lucky people in America :p
hmm, The emeralds are on that list *has never heard of them before* The Pillows aren't going >_>
does anyone know of a new diru album? like have they said anything yet?
Thanks

i have heard a rumor going around....but i am not sure.....it would be awesome if they did!!
Hi, I have seen different rumors around on the internet that says that kyo doesn't practice with the rest of the band. I don't know if there already have been posts on this subject, if so I'm sorry. Could someone please let me know if they know anything, have someone here also heard of those rumors?
Ps! It would be great if Diru came out with a new album, it have been quiet around them lately :(
Yeah it would be awsome. Well it will happen sooner or later i just wish i could have the album NOW!!! :D I have absolutely near enough all their discography and PV's :D love them! XD

i heard this too. ( that Kyo doesn't practice with the rest of the band. ) I don't no if it's true. I read somewhere ( but i don't remember where :sorry: ) that it was some thing relating to cutting himself or something .. but that sounds a bit stupid to me :okashii: it sounds like something that isn't true.
i read in an interview that Kyo said he put almost as much emotion into his singing in the studio as in live .. but i don't rmember if he said he practises with the others or not.
it would be a bit crazy not to practise with them, ne ? :souka:
Or maybe not all the time .. but at least, some times.
And i wish they had another album out, too! :p
i want another album of theirs!!!!
i can't believe...i still haven't gotten cleaver sleazoid yet!

I'm pretty sure it isn't a rumor, because Kyo even said it himself in an interview (if anyone has this interview, please post it). I don't think his reasons sound stupid at all. If he gets so emotional over the songs and has to take out these emotions physically, then practicing would be a very draining and exhausting task. Watch a Dir en grey live and look at the physical strain Kyo puts into each song. Now imagine him doing that at every practice. I don't think he'd have the energy to do the lives if he practiced all the time. Also, I think his lives are more raw without having practiced first, and all the built up feelings can be portrayed in a more powerful way.
it would be a bit crazy not to practise with them, ne ? :souka:
Or maybe not all the time .. but at least, some times.
Yeah, that was what I was thinking when I first read it to, You can't play in a band, and not practise together:relief:
I like their older stuff! But i really want to listen some songs from Clever Sleazoid!^^

i can understand that Kyo don't always practise wtih the rest of the band like Normphobic said cos it takes to much out of him .. so if they practise together everyday he doesnt practise with them. but he would have to practise with them before lives , tours and that stuff O_o otherways they couldnt get there stage show right. :souka: timings and those things .. maybe it doesnt take so many practises as each day but still ........

Hmm, there's also something about Diru going to Sweden. They haven't commented on this, nobody knows if they are even going there, but there's a voting on Hulsfred '06-festival's site [ http://www.snarthultsfredsfestival.net/onska.php ], and they have clearly received most of the votes. I'm getting pissed, because I don't know anything about this, and it would be a perfect chance for me to go and see their live, because Sweden is so close ;;-;;

In case you have not heard the news. The WTD album's U.S release date is being pushed back Withering to death. Postponed
Warcon Entertainment's American release of Dir en grey's Withering to death. has been pushed back from March 7th to March 21st. No reason has been issued for this change.
Wow this isn't bad news but I was really waiting for this album (I already have WTD but I was getting it again). And also with all this he say she say being sayed. And all the drama with the SXSW and Warcon and Free Will its kind of annoying. I mean every body is saying something or saying this and that and everything else. Yet it isn't coming from the place it needs to come from the most. Dir en grey. I mean these past few months they have been so quiet. I mean it doesn't bother me that they are being quiet, cause the way they have been touring last year they deserve a break. The reason why I am getting so mad is because everybody is saying this that and everything. I mean Warcon says this, Free-Will says that you have rumors saying this, that plus more. But the band says nothing. I say that I personally won't believe a thing till it is on THEIR official website, but still all the rumors are annoying when they are being suspicioulsy quiet. Of course they did say that they have a BIG SURPRISE coming up for 2006
Well, a tour is being planned. Perhaps that is the surprise :-)
Placebo
Jan 22, 2006, 08:29
arent they already on tour
Nana007 I agree with you about the whole what's actually going on and what Dir en grey is going to be doing, it does get really annoying because these places shouldn't post something unless it's actually going to happen because what their doing is getting peoples hopes up without knowning anything and when the news changes people get angry and upset... Champloo shush =p just incase you might say something
Nana007
Jan 22, 2006, 12:28
oh Champloo can say whatever. I really don't get annoyed that often. And Its not like I am one of the fangirls who went and bought tickets for the taste of chaos tour just because a rumor was out for like two hours . Like I said I want confirmation from Dir en grey on the website before I do anything. But its like they are being so quiet. Thats whats annoying. I mean they didn't even put the news up of the U.S release of WTD up yet.

Dir en grey will release a new DVD, on May 3rd, of TOUR 05 IT WITHERS AND WITHERS.
There has been a DVD available for "a knot" members only to order for a while (and I don't know but they could have a different version..), but the one listed on their Release page above is for 'the general public'
Don't know if it is common knowledge yet but Dir en Grey will be in Texas in March for South by Soutwest music conference. I will be working with them. Just thought you might like to know. It is not on their website but it is on the SXSW website.
http://2006.sxsw.com/music/festival/
It is a pricey event (since it is the largest music festival/conference in the world) but if you love DEG like so many people I have met then maybe it is doable.
Anyway I hope to see many fans of DEG there. We need to show support as they are now ready to take US by storm!
o.O.. wtf kinsao... hahaah i was 42 kilos when i was like... 5 -_- hahahaha geez... u were skinny =P

I am at work and bored so bear with me  but anyways while searching for something that was surprise NOT Dir en grey related. I found a review about Withering to Death. And so I got the Idea, hey how about I find some more reviews. Most of these are fairly new reviews, about the American release of WTD. Some are okay, and some I just want to take the reviewer and do some seriously bodily harm :buuh: :box: :angryfire: . To those of who live in Europe, how were the reviews over there concerning WTD. Besides a few things I really don't know much of how they did in Europe.
And to my fellow Americans (and Canadians ) what do you think about these reviews. Sorry its is alot of them (I told you I was bored...although I woudn't be bored if I was working which is what you are supposed to do at WORK :relief: :p )

I don't care what anybody says. Withering To Death may not be their best album. But it is solid. It wasn't the best of the year. But it was better than alot of other crap. Especially better than half the rock music in the States last year.
i dun think i wanna read the reviews...but screw the reviews! all i know is that Dir en grey makes good...no...great music and i luv em...

ALot of people give it bad reveiws because Diru is japanese, and alot of people are nothing but racist towards japanese people. Don't let it get to you, just remember where that review comes from, worthless, racist, trash.
Nana007
Jan 29, 2006, 11:34
I didn't let them get to me I juswt thought some of them were funny. I posted them because at the time I was at work and bored. And when I chanced upon the first review I started to look for others. I am not going to let that get to me because I know that Diru is a solid band, and that like I said while WTD is not their best it really does have some good tracks on it. And even with hardcore Diru fans WTD was hit or miss even more so than Vulger. Which I LOOOOOOVED by the way. In fact Vulgar and Kisou are my top two albums.
I put those up. Because if you think about it, if Diru is to even gain any noteworthy success (which doesn't have to be popular, but just to get the recognizion they deserve) they would have to get more attention from just their already here fanbase. And those outside that fanbase would probaly have the same thinking as the people who did those reviews. You had a few who just gave them horrible reviews and then others who gave decent ones. And then the album hasn't even came out yet, those reviews are probaly from people who got advanced copys, or bought the import.
many places, yesasia, cdjapan, j-xyz... Anyways, the reviews that Withering to Death got we're really good compaired to the reviews that Kai got when it came out everyone hated the remixes of alot of their good songs, but what can you do... It also has alot to do with the people reviewing assumes that the music is the same as american music.

I haven't had time to read the reviews yet, but thank you for posting them and I'll be interested to read them when I get round to it. I like WTD, in fact, although Kisou is probably on balance my favourite Dir album (though it's really hard to choose a favourite! Vulgar? Gauze maybe? *sigh* I dunno...). I can understand why people might not like WTD as there are things about it that aren't so good. And Dir is a bit of an acquired taste. :p

You can find THE CODE OF VULGAR[ism] on Free-Will America's store as well. They tend to have good deals at times (like right now all Kagerou merchandise is 50% off and their DVDs are 30% off). They had a sale on Withering to death. last month, so it was only $20. Also, you won't have to pay high shipping rates since it's in the States (plus you get free shipping if your order is over $50!) and you get your stuff in a couple of business days!

You know, I've made it a point to stop reading reviews on Diru because they always piss me off. And I know everything I'm going to say you have all probably heard before, but I really need to say this to help ME get over it. :relief:
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF ELITIST FANS. I am sick of hearing people bad-mouth Diru because they've 'lost their edge' or 'just aren't the same'. NEWS FLASH: PEOPLE CHANGE, GET OVER IT. Of course Diru has changed, of course they are not the same. No one EVER stays the same; like the saying goes, 'The only constant is change itself'. How can you expect them not to change? And how dare you insult them because of it? What right do you have to expect them to stay the same just so it's convenient for you? Talk about egotistical!
People have a right to their opinions. It's fine if you decide that Diru just doesn't suit your tastes anymore. BUT DON'T INSULT THEM FOR IT. Whatever you may believe, Dir en grey is not making this music to try to please YOU AND ONLY YOU (suprise!). They are making music that THEY LIKE, they are doing it because THEY ENJOY IT. If you disagree, fine, but don't start insulting them.
Which brings me to my next point. If you claim to be Dir en grey's "Number 1 Fan", then why are you making fun of them? Did it ever occur to you that saying rude things about their music is the same as flat-out insulting them?? When you complain about their music, in essence you are really saying "They've lost their talent, they suck now. Kyo can't sing, Toshiya can't play bass, and Kaoru's goatee makes him look ugly". Yes, that is EXACTLY what you are saying. And it's insulting. I'm not saying don't say it; people are entitled to their own opinions. However, if you do say it, then STOP CLAIMING TO BE A FAN!!
When you love someone or something, you should support it unconditionally. I'm not saying that means you should love everything Diru puts out; no one will ever love EVERYTHING, because everyone's tastes are different. BUT, you should still support them 100%, even if you disagree. For example, I will be the first one to point out when an outfit looks bad on one of them, or when I don't like a certain PV (*cough*mazohystofdecadance*cough* :D). But I don't start bad mouthing them for it! Even if I don't like it, I understand that the did it because they do. And if they like it, then I will support them 100%. I won't go around telling everyone "Don't listen to this song, it's crap!" I know that not everyone will share my opinion, so I'll tell them to give it a try. Regardless of what I feel about a song, I BACK IT 100%. THAT, my friends, is what a TRUE fan does.
Back to what I was saying earlier, why is everyone so suprised by their new stuff? They've been going this direction for a LONG TIME. Think about it chronologically: First was GAUZE, which was mellow and indies. MACABRE was still mellow, but a little bit more shocking as far as subject matter is concerned. Kisou started getting more rock and less indies, and once again the subject matter became even more shocking. (Think Domestic F**ker Family) six Ugly and VULGAR once again: Louder and even more shocking. Withering to Death now includes even more screaming and even more disturbing subject matter and lyrics. And then people are suprised by CLEVER SLEAZOID!? It's the loudest and most expressive song so far (very political, too. I'm so proud of Kyo-kun! :cute:), and was the obvious next step. From a conservative viewpoint (not that I agree) they have been getting more terrible by the minute, so OF COURSE the next things to appear would be WtD and CLEVER SLEAZOID. Stop acting like 'OMIGOSH! What happened!? This change is all so sudden, make it stop!' It is NOT sudden, you have just not been paying attention!
Which brings me to my conclusion: STOP COMPLAINING. I cannot understand for the life of me WHY these people who write these reviews even bother listening to Diru in the first place. I've read things online and heard people say things about how much they hate Diru, blah blah blah. And THEN when the newest singles comes out, they are the first one to listen to it, share it with others, and devote a gigantic post on their blogs to just how badly they hate it. Why are they even listening to it!? IF YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU HATE DIR EN GREY, THEN STOP LISTENING TO THEM. If I don't like something, I usually avoid it like the plague. Why are you submitting yourself to torture? Are you really that masochistic, or do you secretly love their music but just don't want other people to know, and that's why you put so much effort into hating it? For those of you Emo Diru-haters out there who enjoy sitting around complaining, please do us REAL FANS a favor and GET THE HELL OVER IT. Complaining isn't going to make the song any better, so just MOVE ON. PLEASE.
*sigh* I feel so much better now...I've been wanting to say all of that for such a long time, I just never really got the chance. :relief: Er...thanks, guys, for putting up with my ranting...:relief: :D

Wah Drain Away I didn't want to make you angry with the reviews. I just thought they were interesting. Although most of the reviews were not anti fans. They were for some (and you can tell by the reviews) just an assignment. Like someone came and gave them a copy of the city, a picture and some short very inaccurate back story like "look their is this Japanese band that is trying to come to the U.S.A. They dress like girls and are famous in Japan take this album listen to it and I want a review in the morning"
And Gosh yes drain away I hate the anti fan. If the suck so much why are you hating so much. Why must you actively seek out every single Dir en grey forum and flame then. Or review an album just to say that they suck. It really makes no sense. If I dont like a person or a band I just don't bother with them. If I don't like that actress unless that plot seems REALLLLLLLY Interesting I don't watch the movie. I am not going to hate on them, I just don't support them. Same thing with a musician. Or even people I don't like in real life. I am not going to talk about you behind your back. I just leave you the fVck alone, and unless you bother me I don't bother you. I think JRock especially VK has the most haters. You have so many people who have so many websites that are Anti Gackt, Mana, Dir en grey, Miyavi, Gazette, Alice Nine and the can go on and on. And I am like if you DON'T LIKE THEM WHY ARE YOU SPENDING SO MUCH TIME HATING THEM. And they give BS reasons like oh they are only looks or their music sucks...WITHOUT TELLING WHY IF YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHY BESIDES THEY CANT SING THEN DON'T SAY THE SUCK.
Whew...sorry about the rant. I originally just wanted to apologize about the review and it ended up in a full fledge rant. That is so like me...

Ah, don't worry. It wasn't you or the reviews, it was just that it's been bothering me for MONTHS now, and finally there came a conversation it was relevent to. I just needed to get it off my chest is all. :p
Those kind of reviews are the worst... The writters are just doing it on assignment, so they have no background info. They can't compare or contrast. I have no problem with a negative review so long as it states its case intelligently and can support it with examples. Unlike the kind that are just "this sucks!" :( Evil reviewers...
Yeah, I know...why don't they just get over it? If I don't like something I just ignore it. I hate stupid people that just sit around and complain. BAH. :auch:
Seriously though, I am feeling so much better after that huge post. I feel so much less tense. :D

Kinsao
Jan 31, 2006, 01:39
Why not they visit the UK for a change! :yeahh:
Anyway, not to revive something too old, but, I just read those reviews that were posted on the last page and I don't think they're so bad, really. It was only number 8 (Peacedogman) that was entirely, unremittingly negative :okashii: , and their review so obviously showed up the unintelligence of whoever was writing it...
The others, even the ones not good, found somethings to say that could have been construed as positive. Mainly the diversity/variety, and various comments about Kyo's voice that would have intrigued me, as a casual reader knowing nothing about Dir. However:
Download "Dead Tree", and if you like it, imagine it doused in sugar and festooned with marshmallow bits.
WTF is that reviewer on?! Anything less sugary than WTD would be hard to imagine. That person has been listening to too much Catasexual Urge Motivation, methinks...
As this is a thread for celebrating (as well as discussing) Dir en grey, I think I'm justified in highlighting some of the positive comments made in the reviews...
Number 2 - smother.net:
Meanwhile the guitars juxtapose the bass lines and vocals in an effort to transform their sound into something almost nu-metal in nature but far too complex to be ladled into that tired genre.
Number 3 - Hardrockhaven:
Though the scene here in America is full of hundreds of aspiring metal bands, they all could learn a thing or two from Dir En Grey. Their style most resembles metal-core, but has a unique feel to it.....unique and creative album
Number 4 - ECRomper:
they did have some gnarly guitar hooks and an abundance of creatively premeditated sounds....pure, dirty hostility ironically softened by perverse expressions through their radical slant on obsessive choruses. Who really knows what the hell they exactly are but one thing is for sure; they know how to rock.
Number 5 - live4metal:
The vocals switch rapidly between a suave, quavering j-pop style, histrionic inflections, comical vibratos, bird sounds like Dave Chapelle mocking gang calls, and animalistic growls, howls and grunts....The intro and outro of the last track "Kodou" are magnificent pieces of commercial cheese, and if I was the producer I'd pat myself on the back for that filter sweep. While this wasn't an unpleasant listen, I'd only recommend it to people who like J-pop, System of a Down, Evanescence, and the theme song from "X 1999: Their Destinies were Preordained!".
Jpop?!?!?!? What planet are they on?!?!?!
Number 6 - rockmymonkey:
3 songs in and I have no idea what genre to put these guys in......Within 4 songs these guys have spanned metalcore, borderline grindcore, speed metal, hard rock and top 40 Jpop stylings.........The vocals bounce around between melodic, almost power metal stylings to hardcore screaming to gutteral growlings to crooning. So for all you out there who are sick of the emo crap, you should be able to find something on this cd you like.........Production-wise this cd is beautifully done. Every single instrument is crystal clear and blends perfectly without overpowering the next. The bass and drums lay down a solid foundation for the guitar to play off of, and the vocals intermingle through the music without being drowned out or too in your face. More bands should give this a listen and learn what good production and mixing can sound like.
Number 9 - metalcovenant:
they don't even sound remotely like our rock bands........the charismatic vocalist Kyo hisses, growls and also sings very beautiful on the ballads........Withering To Death has a fascinating wall of sound which might not rub the Western market the right way to have a shot at glory outside of Japan, but that doesn't make the music any less interesting. Quite the opposite, actually, so do yourself a favour and seek them out.
So there you have it. :p

This if off topic and totally random. But I just found this little bit of Information out.
taken from IMDB
The director offered the role of Yoshitoki Kuninobu to popular visual rock vocalist Kyo (from Dir en Grey). But Kyo's management forbad him to take it.
That is the guy in Battle Royal. I found this out because I am doing a paper on it for my film and literature class where we have to compare and contrast a movie vs its novel. So any ways back on topic. For any of you who have seen the movie and know the character I just have to laugh because Kyo would so fit that character. Now I am just laughing at the thought of Battle Royal with Kyo with it. And when I watch the movie tonight, Im going to be seeing Kyo instead of the actor.

I am not surprised either that he didn't except it (or rather his manager didn't) but still this is the first time I have heard that, and as many times as I have seen that movie I really couldn't see Kyo in it. Its just that I have been having uncontrollable giggle fits imagining those scenes with Kyo in it instead. I kind of think the movie would have ended differently.

I don't think anyone "fangirled" too much. Everyone's excited that Diru's going to be coming here, that's it. The people on this forum, at least that have commented so far, understand the importance of not getting out of control at the show and the potential of the craziness that may be exhibited by other fans, but whatever. I'll be the first one to admit that I'd love to be "close" to the band. That doesn't mean I'm not there for the music, but it'd be a damn lie to say I don't find the men of Diru to be extremely talented musicians as well as absolutely gorgeous men, and I can't help but want to see and be as close to that as possible. Just like with D'espa, how excited I was to be in the front (even though I was being butt-molested by the people behind me), the concert experience is more (for me at least) when you're close to the band. If I get a little Kyo Sweat/Blood/Vomit/other on me, it'd be alright. Not to mention, Diru's one of my favorite groups (as with most people on this forum probably) and the opportunity to see them live will be amazing. Of course I won't hope for the 21+ show because being 20, I'm anti 21+ things. The whole concept of being old enough for marriage (w/o permission), college, to vote, to freaking die serving for this country, but NOT being old enough to see a Dir en grey concert bothers me, but then again, I'll probably change that view once I turn 21. I would, however, hope for an 18+ show because of the fan-maturity thing, but I don't think 16+ is that bad.

Feb 17, 2006, 01:02
What ever happened to seeing a band live for the music and not thinking of how close you'll be to them and whether or not you'll be able to touch them?!
I hope Kyo vomits on fangirls in the front row... http://dollidol.com/Smileys/Behaviors/Gross/10_2_5.gif
Hear hear. Yeah, they don't like that bull **** either. Americans will probably scare them away for good. :p Especailly if they act like my friend, she is already starting to scare me. I am almost pushed to say: oops they will be sick the week I am going to take you there.:okashii: I keep telling her. If you treat them like that, they won't give you the time of day, but she doesn't listen to me.

I'd really, really, really love to see Dir live, simply because from what I have seen on DVDs of their live performances they are an awesome and charismatic band who give a particularly good live show.
If I was to see them live (which I hope I will one day! ^^) I'd also like to try and get near the front, or at least in a part with a good view, close to the band is good (although hopefully not in some place where I get trampled ;_;;).
But they don't strike me as being a particularly molestable band. I mean, D'espa... if you will say things like "please be more and more indecent" what can you expect? :D But Dir... it's just live for the music and emotional experience, would be so great.
sunsweet

I don't think I fangirled to much either, I was just joking when I was talking about my friend, and the joke was that he would protect me from the fangirls. Wanting to be as close as possible doesn't make you a fangirl, I am like that even with American concerts. In fact I probaly get it from my dad who loves going to concerts, plays, and comdey shows but unless he has tickets that are on the floor and within the first 10 rows he won't go. Like for example My dad and his wife went to a concert, he paid $500 dollars to get 3rd row floor seats when he could have paid only $170 for seats on the first level, that was RIGHT OVER THE STAGE.
And I am the same way, If I buy tickets to a concert and they aren't as good as I would want them to be I look around the Internet to go and find better seats as close to the stage as possible. The fact that this Diru live is standing room only and you don't have a set seat, I know it will be all hell up in the Avalon trying to get to the front.

Feb 17, 2006, 03:13
I believe the Avalon has three floors. I am sure they would have the balconies opened if Diru really does play there. At least that makes it better. I'd probably try to get in front row on the balcony if anything. I wouldn't want my clothes to get ruined being front row on the ground level! I can only imagine what the show would be like. As much experience having to deal with pushy fan girls next to you at shows, I don't know if that is enough for diru haha. I still would like it to be 18+ or 21+ hoping it would make the show more enjoyable from the crowd at least. I just think it's odd with this show being so close that it wasn't announced anywhere yet. That is why I think it could be a mistake. Maybe it's some special event for the release of their album in the US, like they will have diru's videos playing, like a release party of some sort. As much as I want it to be true, I just think it would have been smarter to promote it really early on.

I guess if not being a fan girl makes you better than other people, then I must be better than them too haha! Normphobic is freakin awesome, so in my oppinion she is better than most hahaha!
I don't think that post had anything to do with being better than anyone though. I think a show where girls are trying to molest the band, rip their clothes, push people around them, and actually hurt people to try to get close to the band just to touch their shoe can make a show less enjoyable, but I would still go to a show because you are there for the band, not the fans.
Backstreet boys music and Diru are totally different. Diru probably have a lot of hardcore fans that are going to mosh and other things, I don't think there would be moshing at a BSB concert.

16+? why? well atleast that it excludes some of the fangirls i guess..
Nana007
Feb 17, 2006, 03:45
Also the fact that the concerts are in the middle of the week, Alot of people will be in school, and while it is very easy for college students on their own to cut class  It's going to be harder for a lot of people in HS to go for that fact alone, I mean how many parents are going to let their kids go way to NY or Cali in the middle of the week for a concert, and miss school also. So that might also help (just a bit) although not much because I am pretty sure you have fangirls 18+
Champloo
Feb 17, 2006, 03:46
Diru probably have a lot of hardcore fans that are going to mosh and other things, I don't think there would be moshing at a BSB concert.
Moshing and all forms of other violince is prohibited at any diru concert and you will be thrown out. So you don't have too worry too much about it.
POISONxIVY
Feb 17, 2006, 03:48
Yeah you're right, there are probably 30 year olds who are still fan girly haha. That is true about it being on a weekday. I am sure a lot of parents won't let their kids travel on a weekday to NY or LA (unless their parents go with them!) I am just glad to finally see Diru live. I have a few of their DVD's, so seeing hours of them live on TV really gets you excited for when you actually get to see it for real.
A lot of concerts say moshing is prohibited. In Japan it is a lot easier to control the crowd, they react so differently at concerts than they do here in America. I am sure there will be a lot of security at the show. I am not worried about moshing. I was in a lot of hardcore bands and have been to a lot of shows. I can protect myself and others around me, but it distracts you from watching the show and I hate that!

j0ylucky -- you have a good point; it's great to actually be able to see musicians 'at work' so to speak rather than them being tiny dots in the far distance (and I'm a short-*** so I'm savage about getting front-near! :box: ... I bet Poison Ivy as a fellow short-*** and bass player is just the same... :D )
It's different getting hurt by accident at a live in a moshpit or whatever, and getting punched and kicked deliberately because someone is set on flattening you in order to get as close to the band as possible. :okashii: :(

I've already bought my tix via pre-sale which I believe is still going on.
Supposidly the general public can buy them on or after the 25th of Feb.
I have an extra tix which I will sell if my friend does not use it, in addition to my own and my ex's which if they have room on the guest list I will probably sell or give away my ticket once I arrive at the venue.
The total was like $117, or 119 for 3 ticket, once of the most expensive shows I've ever had to buy tix for. >_<
Here is the information on the NYC show straight from ticketmaster.

I am wishing well for all you L.A guys, because I know if it was all this drama for the NYC concert I would have been driven crazy by now.
@Blue Ash we should do a meetup. That would be cool. But for me for line up time, I know that I will be their late. Because I have class the day of the show, and I can't skip, because I have a test  but Its a morning class, so I will be out by 11. Then I have to drive the 4 hrs to New York, then check into our hotel, which is walking distance from the club, a lil less than a mile. So I figure I won't be able to line up until 4-5ish.
.::b|ue Ash::.
Feb 24, 2006, 10:58
The LA venue is giving them a hard time about setting up the pre-sale tix, that is what they are waiting on. They have said repeatedly that the LA show will NOT be cancelled.
Nana007: Are you driving up? We are in Maryland, and myself my ex and our friend are all going there from my house. We are not yet sure if we are going to drive, or if we are taking the train. If we take the train we will probably leave here at like 12pm and get to NYC at around 2pm. Most of the hotels we are looking at are with in half a mile from the venu (though I would prefer closer.)
The doors open at 7, most band members don't show up until the first band is playing, or right before the doors open. However some show up early, so I might be busy around the 4-6pm period previous to the show, I don't know yet.
Perhaps we should wear something that would point us out in a crowd, something that was the same that we all could wear and we'd be like "hey your from Jref aren't you?"
I'm not familiar enough with NYC to name a place to meet at.
But I posted my pictures in the photo thread, so if you see me as long as I'm not working feel free to come up to me and say hello. ^_^
