Is it funny? yes Is it Disrespectful? Very much so.

And also don't get mad at Dirus management, as this was all Korns Management. It was posted on a Korn site that the info would be released on the 10th.

Dates I suppose I can wait for, its the locations of the concerts thats kinda wierding me out. o.O Some of the Cali ones are being held in the strangest places. One of them is like a hop skip and a jump away from Victorville for crying out loud. -_-

i hope its at sorta small venues and nothing huge just so its a more personal experience between the band+crowd T_T but i somehow doubt that it will be small because of all the bands.... :\ i had a nightmare this morning i was watching a deg concert from way back int he crowd.....same nightmare i had for their first nyc concert :(

The dates and venues are all up on http://www.familyvalueslive.com/

sunsweet
May 13, 2006, 10:07
Um, I'll just type out all the dates I guess, cause it's in flash so I can't copy paste. The dates only appear on the site sometimes, I don't know what's up with that. If you refresh it a bunch, they might show up, that's what I did. The dates are in the bottom-left-hand corner, ascending, in flash. -

Thurs Aug 24 Kansas City -Verizon
Friday Aug 25 St. Louis -UMB Bank
Sat Aug 26 East Troy -Alpine Valley
Mon Aug 28 Cincinnati -Riverbend
Tues Aug 29 Indianapolis -Verizon

That's all I could copy down before they disappeared again ... the site is acting funny tonight, maybe too much traffic or something.

Yo, Dir en grey have some kind of article written about them in Metel Edge Magazine. On page 63. I went to my local Borders but they don't carry it :(

I think all venues have pretty much the same setup. Is kaoru pronounced ka-oh-loo? I have been saying it ka-roo but I just started Japanese and realized I was saying it wrong.

sunsweet
May 14, 2006, 08:37
Yes, it's pronounced like it looks Ka o roo (of course the r being rolled like a Japanese "r" which sounds similar to an "l" to the English ear). Don't worry, I wasn't sure how to pronounce Karyu's name, so I asked him when I met D'espa backstage, lol. Of all the questions in the world, that's the only one I could think to ask at the time (well, it was the only one I had the balls to ask at the time ... I had a few other questions that I WANTED to ask, but...)

tickets r US $9.99 - US $59.50 T_T im gonna assume the 59.50 is for the close to the stage|pit tickets?! wtf :(

maybe i should just buy the expensive tickets for the nj|ny|or ct show since i live by it and can camp out easier and get lawn seats for the rest of the tour T_T but our t shirt idea or something wouldnt work out too well would it....

man if u look at the pics of the stage on the seating chart of the venue.......the farthest back seats (assuming lawnseats) r so far away T_T venue site here http://www.nissanpavilion.com/

sunsweet
May 14, 2006, 14:46
Yes, lawn seats are far away, it'll be that way with any venue. I've had lawn seats for a few shows in Cincinnati ... and it sucks everytime. Not because you're so far away from the band, but because the sound quality is absolutely terrible from that far away (but there may be better sounds systems at other venues). Then again, if you're going to mutliple shows, it may not be that bad of an idea to pay the 10 bucks for lawn tickets for some of them b/c 59.50/show is too much to pay for a whole lot of shows. If you've got that kind of money, you should just go see them in Japan! Also, the lawn is probably going to be crazy amounts of crowded b/c the tickets are so cheap, so you may want to get tickets somewhere in between the lawn and the front for some of the shows.

Nana007
May 14, 2006, 16:10
As far is I know its levels of seating. I saw a website that said something like Reserve one $59.95 reserve 2 $49.95 reserve 3 $39.95 like that all the way to $10 and I wouldn't be surprised if thats how its set up, because that is how the Nissan Pavilion is set up. Its a huge amphitheater. There is an orchestrar (sp?) pit in the very front which is probaly going to be the mosh pits and stuff, and the tiers of seats. Haha this is so cool going see Dir en grey at the very same place I went to my first concert (NSYNC).

BTW its is now on the OHP.

Oh and apparently Saku was on Headbangers ball tonight. Damn I was sleeping when it came on and missed it. :(

sunsweet
May 14, 2006, 16:31
Headbangers Ball still comes on o_0

Is it still a "respectable" rock show, or is on the level of Steve's untitled rock crap (I'm not going to get over how bad that show was!)

Either way, good for Diru!

I love how American shows just play random Diru PVs as opposed to their latest video like they do with American bands

Riyko

I have a question, everyone is talking about Diru going to be releasing a new album soon, but I'd like a link or something to know where there getting this info at, so I ask you guys has anyone else heard this or has the link to where it can be found?

boobiebutt

who the heck wants to sit and see deg though....screw reserved seating T_T i wanna be up against the stage :\ <---me being greedy but poor....lol

Placebo
May 15, 2006, 00:22
For you to be up against the stage you need reserved seating or to get into the pit depending on how your venue is setup because all venues have the lawn area all the way in the back behind the last row of seats.

Here is how my venue is setup
http://www.soundadviceamp.com/seatingchart.html

I read somewhere that DEG did do a new song at the LA show although I couldnt hear jack. Im guessing their new album would be Inward Scream.

May 15, 2006, 05:44
Because this isn't a Deg tour this is a KORN tour. To us our focal point is Dir en grey, but in reality Dir en grey is nothing but an opening act they will probaly come on first and while I am pretty sure they are going to play more than 30 mins, I am pretty sure they aint going to play 2hrs like Korn is.

HAHAHAHAHA OMG PLACEBO T_T i would so sleep until deg came on too... [ sorry im not a huge american music fan...]

yeah since its more expensive then i expected....i think ill just go to 6.....nj|ny|ct so let me know if anyone wants to hop on....50-60 a ticket isnt really that expensive if u think about it.....since the first concert was like 29+tax+fees.....and im pretty sure u guys paid for travel there....and food and stuff....

There's absolutely no comparison that's worthy, in my honest opinion. Have you not heard Dir en grey before?

Korn, Deftones, Flyleaf, and best of all, Diru! This is what Korn's lead singer said about Diru: "this crazy Japanese band that are just out of their minds."

Rest of the article is here: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1528963/20060418/korn.jhtml?headlines=true

My heart rate actually went up when i saw they were coming to nashvile...i actually get to see Diru! :yeahh: Pretty frikkin cheap too, only $9.99 for lawn tickets, but i wonder how much it is by the stage...i hope i get to meet Shinya

So who else is going to this wondrous tour?

I can't understand Japanese but the song I listened to Merciless Cult was a little weird for me. Started out sounded something like Zakk wylde then it went into some(just making comparisons not meaning thats what I think it is) Emo screams then it went into Anime singing it sorta confused me. But I would like to get onto a computer with cable then listen to them more to get a better felling. But the instramental and the RIFFS! where great.

im a 56ker too......
u can try these options to sample song songs if u would like....
open dir en grey pv's off of youtube in their each window and let them load overnight and u can watch them when u wake up...
or ask someone to send u songs
or dl some urself....
but most importantly remember to support to band so dont dl everything T_T

oh and reguardless if u understand japanese or not its about the music not the language :P

do u guys think deg is only touring with these other bands just to get their name out and get some exposure to the people that dont know them? i really wish deg set up their own tour as the featuring band :\

I found this out on myspace yesterday, but, uhh.
'This crazy Japanese band who are just out of their minds'
Crazy. Japanese. out of their minds.

Once again another not-so-nice statement. Might be nice in some peoples eyes, but they could have gone into more detail about Diru, PLUS - All the other bands have links on that page, why not Dir en grey? They could have at the least put www.direngrey.co.jp !

But anyway, 30 cities, Go Diru! :-)

Hey Jason, glad that you're interested in what you're hearing of Dir en grey so far! If there's one thing they definitely are, that's diverse, and they're really hard to pin down to a 'genre'; as you have obviously heard for yourself they even change a lot within one song.

Keep listening! :music: Dir en grey have such different songs.

And it's cool when people want to know more. :-)

Thirteen: I like your chibi Kyo! :cute: I envy anyone who can draw chibis, because I totally can't.

Does all this withering to death stuff being released to the USA mean diru could become more mainstream and perhaps conquer the UK? i haff no idea what is going on tbh, my friend just told me they were rereleasing withering to death or something xD hellar confused :?
and Kinsao, i agree with you about not being about to pin dir en grey down to a genre, its really quite hard xD

Hey, incidentally I only just noticed you are from the UK! Yay for j-rock fans in the UK! :bravo:  :yeahh:

About your question... I'm not very knowledgeable about this myself, but I just know that Dir en grey released Withering to Death as a European release, and then they are due to release it also as an American release. The date of the American release kept getting pushed back, but afaik it is now to be tomorrow (unless it got changed again -_-).

I didn't really keep up with all the hype around that, because (a) I'm not American and (b) I've already got the Japanese version of Withering to Death. Although I guess one plus is that the American version will have lyrics translations. But you can get those off the net anyway. ^^

There has also been various talk among fans about whether Dir en grey might 'conquer' the US, possibly (as they are playing concerts there, releasing WTD there, and generally seeming to concentrate more attention there lately), but I have never heard anything in relation to their potential conquest of the UK and/or Europe! ^^ I think the general consensus is that j-rock will likely develop into a significant subculture (more so than it is at the moment), but never become really and truly 'mainstream'. Although people have various different opinions/arguments on that point. :relief:

sunsweet
May 16, 2006, 00:07
The Japanese version of WTD already has English translations, lol.

The plus for buying the US release for me is to show them that they have an "American fanbase". They don't have much to go off of, besides record sales and concert attendance, so I'm doing my best to let them know that they have American fans. I did the same thing for L'Arc~en~Ciel's Awake album, I bought it when it was released in Japan and also when the American release came out.

I agree with you about the 'mainstream' thing. I don't think Japanese rock music will ever become 'mainstream', but I do think that it will and is developing into a significant subculture of music in the Western world and I think Dir en grey being on Korn's tour will aid in this.

well, dir en grey has no fixed genre you can fit them in. they change their sound in each album, although the last two albums (WTD and vulgar, and probably six ugly too) do have a nu metal sound, but they sound alot better than what you think (i'm not saything diru is nu, i just can't find anothre word to describe). and refering to what you said, i think they got great headbanging riffs after they changed into a heavier style.

who knows, maybe diru will do smth different again in their next release.

YES another family values tour :) went to the first one! Can't wait Korn, Stone Sour, Diru, and Deftones YES! Flyleaf has a hot lead singer but they lost my intrest once I listened to one of there songs and it started out like metalcore. I was like "Yes time to get amped up!" boy was I wrong..... And I can see Diru wonder how fans will react to Visual Kei? Also Yokan I don't find that they said there out of there minds bad imho.

Kinsao
May 16, 2006, 01:55
I agree with Jason that in the context, the saying of 'crazy' and 'out of their minds' was probably meant to be a good thing... :relief:

However, I also feel that although craziness is cool, hyping a band on that aspect is setting them up for a fall (I don't mean Diru necessarily but any band). It's a compliment when it gets said a couple of times, but if it starts to overshadow the music itself, then it just becomes another marketing gimmick.

sunsweet

I got the limited edition of it withers and withers in the mail today and I just want to say i'm kind of dissapointed with it, to be honest i'm used to the dvd's being so much different. The bonus footage on the aknot version is alot better then on the limited edition one. Meh can't always make the fans happy 24/7.

VengefulRonin

*nibbles on that pic also*

Shinya looks oh so lovely there ^_^ I want his coat... *steals* And die always has and always will look cool!

Oh yeah, stone sour's gonna be there too, i forgot about that. Heh...and also, on the main page for the family values tour, at the bottom they have sections describing each band, however, Diru is nowhere to be found! As for them being described as "crazy"...eh, i have to agree. :relief: However that craziness is definitely a good thing.

And if diru isnt visual kei, what should we call them, just Jrock? They still look pretty "visual" compared to alot of american bands anyway.

Nana007
May 16, 2006, 08:56
Yea, Deg isn't VK in the traditional sense, but compared to U.S bands they are pretty visual and have a great sense of fashion. But no they aren't VK.

sunsweet
May 16, 2006, 09:16
They just wear normal clothes, they're not visual. I mean they wear clothes that look GOOD, but they're not exceptionally different from your average well-styled rockstar. I mean, Die was wearing a rolling stones t-shirt for a bit, nothing visual about that, just plain rock. It's just that a lot of American bands have a tendency to look like they just stepped out of a goodwill store and haven't taken a shower in years </gripe>, whereas Dir en grey actually looks like some well-dressed men, but definitely not visual kei.

Nana007
May 16, 2006, 09:31
I agree with you sunsweet that every one wears regular clothes, but Kyo is still pretty visual to me (not in a VK way) I mean really some of the clothes he wears are not normal. Although in the New DVD and at the U.S shows he was pretty normal looking. And like I said early they just have a really good fashion sense.

Also new news, Dir en grey won't be joining the FVT until August 4th. So every date after the 4th they will be on.

sunsweet
May 16, 2006, 09:40
Hehe, nothing about Kyo is normal though, he doesn't count! Most recently, though, he has been dressing pretty normal ... and quite sexy if I do say so myself.

tight pants + shirtless =

I think we should move this convo back to the Diru thread, I have no clue why it's going on here...

Kyo is damn sexy ... I actually know what you mean, though. i think so too.....i have a few friends that like disowned deg so to speak because of them going mainstream and stuff like the hot topic issue...i dont believe that this would slow deg down 1 bit because even if deg lost some of their orginal fanbase...they still gain new.....like when how deg supposedly changed their music and lost fans...they still got new ones and r still really successful....i dont believe that deg will make it mainstream though just because its not english....but i dont think it would stop deg from trying?

When I went to the NY concert their were two parts when I realized OMG this is really happening. One was when we were walking to the Avalon and we could hear Diru's soundcheck from way down the street, Like 4 blocks down. The second was when we went into the club and I saw the Tapestry at the back of the stage that said Dir en grey. But even then It really wasn't until GDS came on that I really really really knew that it was happening.

And My tickets go on sale tommorow. I am trying to decide if I want to go for the pit or not. The pit is really fun, but the Korn/Deftone crowds like to Mosh. And while I don't mind it, I do it occasionally myself. When Dir en grey is on stage all I want to focus on is them, not moshing or protecting myself from some Idiot Mosher.

They will mosh to Diru more than likely, though a lot will be hearing it for the first time so it may not be as "intense" as when the other bands are on stage. None-the-less, I am going to try to get pit tickets as well. I just need to make sure I wear a "sturdy" shirt this time so it is not ripped to pieces like at the NY show.

The one thing I hate about mosh pits in the summer is that it is sooo hott, at outside venues and just in general. And the Camden NJ one is outside, right?
Blah, if it is outside, I am going to get SO sunburned. I am like, the palest person on earth :bluush:

Nana007
May 19, 2006, 09:22
Haha yea Sunsweet almost had a Wardrobe Malfunction ala Janet Jackson. And that was a cute top too. Did you get it fixed? True the moshing won't be as intense during Diru. I think I will go for the pit tickets as well. Also does anyone know who the other 5 bands on the 2nd stage will be? I know one is going to be the required hip hop group that FVT always seems to have.

Edit:
And Boobiebut they will Mosh to Dir en grey, you had people who wanted to start a moshpit at the NY and LA concerts. And its not that I hate it, but I don't want to mosh while Diru is on I just want to stare at the stage occasionally wiping drool from the corner of my mouth .

Anyways, Anyone here buy the US version of Withering to Death just for the hell of it?

Absolutely. The day it came out I went to the mall and the local *gasp* hot topic and got it ... along with some pretty cute shoes if I do say so myself. I have yet to open it, I mean, 'cause I've had WTD for like over a year now, but I had to buy it and support the guys.

Hmm tickets for my area isnt for sale yet. Gives me time to beg. I have a question where should I be seated to be close to Die?

http://www.soundadviceamp.com/seatingchart.html

At the L.A show I didnt get to see to much of Die since he was in his own dark little corner. I tried squinting to see if I could catch a glimpse but it was dark so I just stared at Kyo and every once and a while I would look over to Kaoru and Toshiya.

if I support DEG anymore I will be poor

Total DEG costs:
Concert tix $20-30 (don't remember the exact cost)
Replacement ticket $20-30 (I left my ticket in the damn taxi)
Plane ticket round trip $100
Taxi to the venue $80 (roundtrip)

j0ylucky
May 21, 2006, 03:02
Let's see how much I spent to see them in LA:

concert ticket: $45? (I got the fast shipment)
Plane ticket round trip: $219
Train from LA to venue area: $3
hotel room: $77
food: $20
poster: $16

On top of all of that.. I had to run around in Korea town trying to find a place to stay because the hotel I originally planned to stay at didn't allow cash payments and my credit card wasn't working. So I arrived in LA @ 1015 am-ish and didn't get into my hotel until around 230 pm-ish. X__X Next time I plan a trip like that, I'll make sure my stinken credit card works. >__<

Nana007
May 21, 2006, 04:36
I am pretty sure that unless you lived in New York or LA that everyone spent well over $200. I am not saying that oh if you don't get the album your not a good fan, because in reality its not like they make much money off of album sales. It in the touring/product marketing where anyband makes their money. But I say just get it cause of the sales. Its not like Dir en grey gonna sale 12 million copies, but you know its good if they sell just enough copies to get even more attention in the U.S.

boobiebutt
May 21, 2006, 07:57
*orders 10 million copies for me and passed them out on the street for free exposure* is that enough to get them attention in the us? i wish i could actually do that though..lol i actually brought a few hundred dollars with me to camp out at nyc.....i ended up going home with 13 dollars and change in my pocket and i honestly dont even remember what or how i spent that money.....

i don't know if it would work, but i think they should make a US ver for Vulgar. Compared to WTD, Vulgar kicks alot more ***, i think it's one of their best album.

Precious4e
May 21, 2006, 12:51
Hello! I'm kind of new to Dir En Grey but I bought their Withering To Death album in the US ($13 in my area). I LOVE it. But I must agree that their Vulgar album is better.

Haven't had a chance to see them perform live though. I wont be able to make their Family Values tour with Korn either :( . Hopefully one day I'll get to see them perform.

sunsweet
May 21, 2006, 13:49
Though it's a close match, I like Withering to Death over Vulgar. I'm a bit partial, with WTD being the first album I heard of theirs, but it's such a strong album imo, especially for breaking into the western music scene. It's like a breath of fresh air ... I remember first putting it into my cd player and hearing the beginning to Merciless Cult and immediately thinking "I'm in love", lol.

Riyko
May 21, 2006, 13:59
I spent a lot for the LA show as well *_*

2 plane tickets: $500
Hotel room: $165
Taxi: $258
Cd and dvd (from the concert: $60
gift for toshiya: $45
3 concert tickets: $162

They use up peoples money fast who really love them, but it's ok as long as it's Diru or Rentrer en Soi :-)

boobiebutt
May 21, 2006, 16:06
258 on a taxi?! was the taximade out of gold or something?!

its really weird.....i was one of those fans that didnt like wtd that much at the start....but once i listened to it a lot before the concert it started to get to me......and after i saw it live i died x_x i cant live a day without listening to it lol

May 22, 2006, 03:36
I think it's hilarious how on the family values message boards, the other bands have like up to 6 topics (threads) and Dir en grey has 20, lol. Korn has the second most number of replies in their threads at 74 wheras Dir en grey has 594.

Korn is SO lucky to have gotten Dir en grey for this tour!

Placebo
May 22, 2006, 03:49
When Korn realised issues they lost a HUGE portion of their fanbase.I know I used to listen to them but when that crap came out I stopped.

I've seen one--well, techically it was a Korn CM but Diru was mentioned. It was on MTV about a month ago.

This is probably really old news to you guys and someone's most likely said it already (thread's too huge to check) but Dir en grey was featured in this month's issue of Metal Edge!!! I bought my copy yesterday. Quick fix. The New Single Ryoujyoku no ame. Which I had translated to be Rape of Rain, is really translated as Rain of Insults. This is due to the fact that Ryoujyoku can be translated to mean either Disgrace, Insult or Rain. So my mistake.

Nana007

I'm not really a huge fan of Kyo's new piercing, but it's kind of cool. Also, his little chin pubes are cute ish, but I agree with Nana. They look a lot better and Kaoru, and Kyo may look weird with long ones. Haha :bluush:

soon Shinya will be sporting the beard too.. haha what a creepy thought

And can someone please explain to me wtf has happened to Toshiya

sunsweet
May 31, 2006, 10:15
Toshiya is absolute hotness. I don't care what he does or how bad of pictures he takes, that man is hotness personified. Honestly, I think he just keeps getting pics taken at the wrong times, lol, poor thing has lost all of his fangirls, haha.

As a person who has a bit of a fetish for piercings, I love Kyo and whatever he decides to pierce, no matter how odd its location may be, metal is sex...

I also love facial hair, so I don't really care one way or the other with that.

I love how this post had absolutely nothing to do with musicanship and everything to do with looks. Like how I didn't ask anything about or look up anything about the show, just paid attention to how they look ... oh how superficial I am.

Nana007
May 31, 2006, 10:51

Placebo from what i've seen from all of the venues is that pit and front row tickets have gone fast.

yes they go out really fast......i when on pre sale to purchase frotn row tickets and non exsisted.....only 3 sections back......out of 5 sections.....and i waited untill normal sale.......same problem except 2 section out of 5.......which didnt help.....

12. How did it feel to finally play on American soil??

We were honored that people came to watch us even when we played in a foreign country. As long as there are people who want to see us, we will continue to play.

and that comment made me smile :) i <3 those guys and ill aways go to see them :D

Ummm... this has nothing to do with Dir en grey, but boobiebutt, I feel as though you need to get an avatar! You've been a member of this forum for too long not to have an avatar, what type of forum member are you? *smacks*

lol!

Gah... I quite enjoyed that Diru interview, though it wasn't much, it's just nice to see them getting some love in the West. I'm not sure if I should pre-order the single or just wait for the album, but I guess it's only 10 bucks so I'll probably end up ordering it.

...and yeah, the front row/pit seats sell out really fast.

Jun 9, 2006, 01:19
^The Asahiya around me charges the price that they would online including shipping lol. They're a tiny bit more expensive than the CDs at Kinokuniya and they carry less stuff.

But I was reading the description for the limited edition release and the normal edition. So basically the limited edition just comes with a special CD sleeve and a booklet with translated lyrics?

Nana007
Jun 9, 2006, 06:03
sexalent seats huh?

I want to preorder cause I want the limited edition, but at the same time I am going to be in Japan when the cd goes on sale, so wouldn't it just be a novel idea to buy a Japanese Cd in Japan  that and I dont have to pay for shipping. But I might not get a limited edition. :( I dont know what to do. And yay my tickets go on sale tommorow.

Well, I personally think that piercing is freaking awesome. :-) If it gets infected I will cry. Hey, speaking of Kyo's piercing, anyone know if he still has the ones in his chin or if he let 'em grow over? I know the ones in his cheek are gone (:( ) but I wasn't completely sure about his chin. I've been watching close ups and looking at recent pics to try and see but I figured I'd get second opinions on it.

sunsweet
Jun 15, 2006, 00:34
I think the ones in his "chin" are gone, but at least one lip one remains ... but that's just what I think from looking at pictures. I love piercings, so I think the vertical bridge is awesome only b/c of the fact that it's not seen as often. I, personally, wouldn't do a bridge, but if you're going to rock one, you may as well make it unique. This is bad ... speaking of piercings always makes me want to get new ones (my apartment is in between 2 piercing/tattoo shops), but I need to save money for Jrock crap...

I wish Kyo still had all his odd piercings...they were freaking hot. But that's okay just as long as he takes care of his bridge piercing and doesn't let his lip or multipul ear piercings grow over. Hyde let his ears grow over!!! :bawling: KYO'S NOT ALLOWED TO LET HIS GROW OVER!!! :box: ...Yes, I have a piercing fetish. I can't help it.

Hyde_is_my_anti-drug
Jun 17, 2006, 03:50
They're playing first?? Sweet! Well, actually that could be good or bad...openers either get great response 'cause the crowd's fresh and energetic or SHITE response 'cause, right or wrong, no one cares about the opener and just wants to get to the other bands. But at least I don't have to sit through a ton of bands I don't care about before getting to Diru. :-) Well, I take that back, I do care about Korn and Flyleaf but that's about it other then Diru of course.

Nana007
Jun 17, 2006, 05:50
Yea Dir en grey are the openers. And yea, they are either going to get a good response or crap response. You have few Korn fans who are being open minded and checking them out (and liking them) then you have the others who are all like Der en gray (yes I have seen it spelled that way) sucks, without having even given them a try (those are the ones that just irk me) Or those who tried them don't like them and can give a reason (besides they look gay, or I can't understand what he is saying (no sh!t sherlock its in Japanese).

And I don't know about everybody's else Venues but the Nissan Pavillion has a capacity (including the lawn) of 25,000. And out of that 25,000 probaly only 500 people will be there for Deg. While another 3000 people are going to have a small bit of knowledge about them. While the other 21,500 people aren't going to know who the hell they are, except that their name is on the bill. (thats if the venue is sold to capacity which I doubt). 25000 people is alot of people to have to try and impress. Their success on this tour (or lack of) can make or break their U.S debut.

Also does anyone know the FVT rules on camera's. My venue allows them as long as it is not a proffesional camera, or a camcorder, but only as long as the band doesn't mind. Now we all know Dir en grey's and FWA's dislike of it, but how does Korn feel about Cameras.

Riyko

Oh trust me with all the old VK pics and man on man pics the fangirls have posted of DEG has already been ruined. I don't know wtf is the obsession I mean the majority of the little fangirls were not even born doring their VK days.

I was born in 1989 thank you. :wary:
And they were Visual Kei and they did jump each other, us posting pics of them isn't the root of the 'evil' you speak of. And hey, the USA could use some shock therapy in the way of androgyny and sexual freedom. And no one made Diru Visual Kei and nobody forced them to jump each other, they did all that of their own free will. So stop bagging on the fans.
Also, I don't think Visual Kei or Fanservice has "ruined" the band, Dir en grey's core always has been and always will be the same because their core is their message and their message hasn't changed. Sure, the box and all the wrappings has changed but what's important has stayed the same. So the fact that they no longer wear white face paints and skirts (*tear*tear*) isn't a draw back and the fact that they once did wear them isn't either. Even without Fanservice and Visual Kei you would still get lotsa Deg haters this side of the Pacific Ocean the only difference is they now have the word, "f****t" added to their ammo which, by the way, is not even an insult. I fail to see how someone's sexuality effects the quality of their music.

P.S. I will agree, though, that many "fans" fixate on the past and that is a tiny bit annoying. But simply posting old pics isn't what's going to ruin them, it's this attitude some fans have and all their b****ing and moaning about Diru making it here and the complaining about their fame saying that they're selling out or whatever, and just being elitist in general. THAT, that right there, is what's going to drag them down not their past.

Placebo
Jun 19, 2006, 04:11
You do not get me sorry I should have explained myself better I made the rant after peaking in the FV DEG gallery. I did not mean the pics in general is what is bringing them down but the fans that are latching on to their VK past. I don't think this is what the band wants I think they want you to either grow with them or move on. And when I said the fans were not born what I should have said is they were still pissing in their diapers when DEG was VK. The funny thing is the are like "oh I miss their vk days" so not only are they latching on to the past but they are holding on to something they were never apart of. Would be like me constantly talking about the 60's and dressed up in 60's garments even though I was born in 87.

Nana007
Jun 20, 2006, 06:44
All the posting of the VK pics in the FVT official forum IS hurting the band. Alot of the other fans on the forum of the other bands already have a bad impression of us. I mean seriously it was okay at first. But now you can't have a decent discussion without some idiot fangirl coming in and going off topic on some incredibly stupid stuff.

And also all the old VK pics is killing me. Especially since it is hurting them. You have alot of the Korn fans who are like oh I think I like this music, and then they see some old VK era fanservice pic and it scares them away.

I love this band but I hate the fans.

Precious4e
Jun 20, 2006, 07:50
I love this band but I hate the fans.

LOL. That's funny but I also feel the same way about certain fans.

I also think alot of people in the states don't handle VK well and do get turned off by it. VK is an acquired taste in my opinion. And I do prefer the current Diru. Maybe it's because I started listening to them just recently.

I find that most bands as time goes on end up ditching their VK look and go into more toned down outfits. I guess that's part of them maturing as a band.

Me personally while I do sometimes admire and like the VK look. I am not fixated on the VK look cause I wasn't a fan when they were VK. And to be honest the VK look scared me away. Older pre-Vulgar fans who fixate on it are sometimes annoying but its the I have only been a fan for 3months and I love Dir en grey, but I don't like the new sound or the new look they need to go back to VK fans that kill me.

I am not a fan of their VK look the only two that pulled it off was toshiya and shinya the rest of them look like tranny zombies. I like their manly look although it wouldnt kill Kyo to shave his pits someone needs to tell him to keep his arms down and I loved Die with eyeliner but what ever he still hot without.

dont bash me...but remember how it was said that other countries r sometimes ignorant to accept jrock because of the language barrier...no matter what language it is sung|played in...feelings|emotions|stories r passed along that way....music is just music....i think some fans just need to understand vk or no vk....it doesnt effect their music....

vk or no vk....it doesnt effect their music....
You said it.

Unfortunately there will always be some closed-minded people who get put off the music if they see a VK picture, though.... -_- So 'going non-VK' is a better marketing strategy in the US for now (I'm not saying that's the reason Diru chose it; I'm just making another point ^^). I guess what Placebo was trying to say is that the fangirls who constantly put around a VK image aren't helping with that.

Besides, it's never any good clinging onto the past. Would fans really rather Diru were doing something they don't want, trying to be something they are not? Of course not. It's their music and their choice of visual style - I say, just let them get on with it.

I'll agree most Dir en grey fangirls suck major monkey butt. And I'll agree that plastering Visual Kei pictures on that forum is not a good idea. I was just saying that it isn't the actual Visual Kei that would bring them down but the stupid fans.

Is this Dir en Grey really all that good id like to check em out whats on of their best songs?

sunsweet
Jun 21, 2006, 02:22
Um... I'm not sure if the Mushi live performance is a good thing to start off with when someone asks what's their best stuff ... I mean, Kyo crying and hitting himself ... that's quick to turn someone off of Diru before they even get a chance to hear their music. (Though I agree it's one of their best performances)

I'd say a good thing to start off with, since you're asking kioshi, would be to get the Withering to Death album. It's pretty awesome ... and good for people who haven't heard Dir en grey before.

Kisou and Vulgar are also good albums IMO - although of course, everyone has their different likes! ^^ What sort of music do you generally like?

Songs from Dir en grey that I think are good to check out are:
Machiavellism
Jealous
Dead Tree
Fukai
Cage
Gyakujou Tannou Keroido Milk
Drain Away
The Final

If you like gentler music: Ain't afraid to die.
If you like heavy music: Pink Killer.

I really like all their songs from Withering To Death. Other songs I like that other people didn't list are:

Umbrella
Audience Killer Loop
Mr. Newsman
Ain't Afraid to Die <=== Had to repeat it because it's my fave Diru song.

All the other songs listed are also very very good!

I recommended Withering to Death not only b/c it's a strong album, but it's also easily available in the US now.

Obscure is good for a "hard" Diru

maybe the final for "gentle" Diru

"All the posting of the VK pics in the FVT official forum IS hurting the band."

What's the FVT official forum??? What's this you're talking about?? ((I'd like to understand a little bit more of what yu were talikng:p))

Anyway... No that anyone cares^^UU, but personally, I've loved them in every of their ways, cause I simple think they're MORE than great musician. If anyone would ask me to recommend a good deg song, I would start with the oldies and go up till the newst ones cause I simply love all of their music... Of course I understand that some people may prefer one above the other but...
anyway I was born in 1987 too, and I the first time I listen to dir en grey was around 2000 thanks to an anime magazine cd with some songs and pvs ((yokan, krcube, myaku, berry, hydra, jealous, taiyou no ao, zan and wake)) and from then on, I just fell in love and never stopped!! :cute: :cute: Of course, I must admit I kind of rather their vk period a little more, just a little! jajja, but that's cause, well, it was then when I fell for they! understand??:p
aah... hey, don't say things like "they look like trany zoombies"! that's mean! jaja:p To me they were just as beautiful as they're now!! :-) Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!! jajaj:p yeahh, i'm a big big baka!:p

changing subject!

dont bash me...but remember how it was said that other countries r sometimes ignorant to accept jrock because of the language barrier...no matter what language it is sung|played in...feelings|emotions|stories r passed along that way....music is just music....i think some fans just need to understand vk or no vk....it doesnt effect their music....

that's sooo truth!! yes,yes! :bravo:
what reminds me something that usually makes me angryy!! When I say I like "japanese bands" people always ask me if I speak japanese and when I say "no" they inmediatly ask "then how can you listen to that music you don't know what they are saying??" AArrggh, it makes me so angry, SPECIALLY because most people who say that to me are big fans of english/american bands when they can't speak a single word in english ((no that I speak much but...:bluush: :p)) anyway... that just make me angry... no that has anything to do in here... but anyway... like I said before no that no one cares... just speaking my mind loud...:bluush: :bluush:

Yeah... it is probably the only song of theirs that I DON'T too much care for.... <.<; Which is really saying something, because I can sit through the mazohyst PV and watch it several times over, but I can't stand to listen to the Sea of Retards ONCE all the way through. <.<; And it is a little on the scary side.... >.<;

heheh... it wasn't supposed to do that twice.... <.<;

Really? :silly: Which one do you have? I can only find the Japanese versions of the songs... <.<; So far, the only song on my computer (and there is a bookoo amount of songs) that I have a translated version of is "Angel's Tale" by HYDE... which is a ~long~ way from being anything that came from Diru.
