I have a question for those of you living in Japan. I just watched a documentary about Americans in jail throughout the world, some of whom were locked up for things they would have been legal in the US. But, as ignorance of the law is no excuse, found themselves in trouble. Do you know of any such laws in Japan? I don't want to do something that would be perfectly OK in the US that is illeagle in Japan. :bluush:

Can you give some examples of what they had been jailed for? And in which countries?

Marijuana possession under 2 ounces is a misdemeanor in many (all?) states, but you can be put away for quite a long time for much less. Not the definition of legal vs. illegal, but has affected many... even posters here.

I believe one of them involved alchahol in saudi arabia, and another one was in Nigeria, something involving trying to buy oil contracts. I'm sorry I don't recall details. :p

Ignorance of the law is no excuse here, either.
It's really common sense, though. It's just like when you're a kid....you generally know that what you're about to do might get you in trouble, but decide to go ahead and hope you don't get caught. If you find yourself thinking something might get you in trouble, just don't do it.

I'm slightly curious as to what would happen if I was caught with hardcore porn, without the stupid little mosaic over the genitals ;-)
