Does anyone know of a HD recorder that is fully compatible with the Sky Perfect TV service?

I would to be able to set the HD recorder to record programs on Sky Pefect that are on different channels (and obviously different times).

For normal analogue TV broadcasts that's ok because you have x channels tuned to different frequencies, and the box can select which frequency to record.. but for Sky Perfect the decoder box sends the signal on one frequency (often a "video" channel) so I think a standard HD recorder will just record whatever channel the deocoder was left on.

Anyone know?

Yes I have Sky, yes I have an HDD, no I don't know if you can record and watch something different at the same time...but then again I never need to because everything on Sky is repeated at some other time of the day, week, month, year...sorry this doesn't help you but it made ME feel better.

I think the only thing you can do is upgrade your system. It seems to me that you have only the one receiver. They sell two TV systems that come with one dish and two receivers. This would allow you to record one show while watching another. As for an HDD? I'm not positive, but I don't think you will find one. The only way for this to work is if you could somehow insert the IC card from the skyperfect receiver into the HDD...and I have yet to see one on the market here that will do that. If you find one please let me know...I would love to pick one up also.

Hi CC1, thanks for the info. In the UK Sky offer a system called Sky Plus which is an integrated decoder and HDD recorder.

Not got one, but it works really well and had been available for a few years now... surprised if Japan didn't have a similar solution!

To be honest, it isn't the watching one show and recording another I am too bothered about - it is having the HDD recorder be able to record whatever channels I like during the week, without me having to remember to reset the Sky box to each channel every time.

I think this is the latest in HDD recorders with built-in Sky Perfect tuner for hassle-free recording:

If you want a cheaper model, I think there is one in the Sony Cocoon series priced at under 90,000 yen.

HTH! :-)

I am thinking to get a sport channel package from SkyPerfec and have a few questions. Is all the commentary in japanese, or is it english during, for example, Premier League games?
Is there a way to see the TV schedules in english? Does the decoder have english menues or is it somewhere on the internet I can find english schedules?
Thanks

Yes to all of your questions (bilingual broadcasting especially for overseas games).

Check out SkyPerfect TV website for information (English version available).

I think you can check what's on tonight on the EPG (using the remote controller that comes with SkyPerfect tuner). You need to have the display mode in English first. Unfortunately, I think the only information you can get is the title of the program and the time. Additional information is probably available in Japanese only.

Sorry, but that's all I know. I usually don't use the English display mode because the English is terrible. :relief:

I don't know whether there is a SkyPerfect channel guide published in English. :sorry:

There is a schedule published in English, you get it through the mail each month.

There is also a channel guide they send you at the start in English.
