So, I want to hear others' opinions on this movie. I thought it was pretty good, although not very scary. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any other movies from the series, American or Japanese. Anyways, I want that quote from that play Sadako was in... I can't find it. Anwyas, any others that are good?
:-)
Very good film, although i have not seen it yet. Have seen both Ringu 1 and 2, and also the American remakes tho. I'd advice you to watch the Japanese version first, then the American. The American version is nothing special, in my opinion, rubbish. I went on my first date(also the girl i am with now) to see American Ring 2. BIG disappointment:lol:

"If this were all a dream... And if I woke up... Only you were there... It would be alright... Because... I love you..."
Well, it went something like that...

Thought so... American editors tend to screw up a lot of things... LIKE MY FAVORITE ANIME! T.T

I liked Ringu 0, but prefered the first one. The American remakes are not as good, especially The Ring 2. Dark Water is another fairly good film (once again ruined by the US remake. God, that is an awful film) or Chakushin Ari by Takashi Miike and his best, Audition. (needles, anyone?) Mind you most films by Takashi Miike are strange, weird or horrifying. All at once for Visitor Q:mad:

OMG RINGU/RING MOVIES!!! I'm sorry I am the WORST Ringu/Ring junkie there is. I own every single movie except the "forgotten sequel" Rasen (but I'm working on that). Ringu 0 is by far the best in my opinion. I've been watching it religously every day for the past week. Nakama Yukie blows me away. She's so pretty and one of the best Japanese Actresses I've seen in awhile. Yeah, SMALL crush. Eh heh :relief:
And I think I must be one of the only one's here who worships the American versions as much as the Japanese, huh? The key to The Ring 2 is watching the extended version, the theatre release made me physically ill but the ext. ver. is actually really good. Those extra 20 mins. make ALL THE DIFFERENCE. But I LOVE The Ring to death (no pun intended)! It was the first Ringu/Ring movie I saw and it amazed and TERRIFIDE me. Although Ringu 0 is my fav The Ring comes in second.
And Ringu 0 isn't MEANT to be scary. You should have watched at LEAST Ringu first. Ringu 0 is more like Carrie then your normal horror flick. Most horror movies build then scare, build then scare, build then scare. But movies like Ringu 0 and Carrie just build, build, build, build, build, build until everything finally EXPLODES. Also Ringu 0 is meant to answer questions raised in the other films meaning you need to see them first to truly love and understand Ringu 0. Never watch a Prequel FIRST although I know that sounds backwards believe me it isn't. Prequels lose all their power if you watch them first. It's knowing the outcome and not being able to do a damned thing about it that gives them their power. Like Wicked for example. If you read that before the Wizard of Oz (and saying that you didn't know much about the Wizard of Oz) it would lose a LOT of its power. But if you read Wizard THEN Wicked it is emotionally crushing.
My Ringu/Ring list in order of favs:
1. Ringu 0 "Birthday"
2. The Ring
3. Ringu 2
4. Ringu
5. Rings
6. The Ring 2

I havent seen the orginal (japanese) version of The Ring yet. I have seen the american remakes of the ring, and the ring 2. And in my honest opinion, they were stupid as hell, not scary. What made it worse, is they had the chance to be good, but each of them about half way through the movie, tried to draw it out longer, and longer and longer, till the point i wanted to turn the movie off and go away. I finished each of them, and odds are good wont watch them again. Want to see the japanese versions though.
I have watched Ju-on, and the english remake The Grudge, not impressed yet again with The Grudge (American remake) but i did like Ju-on.
I recently just bought a movie i am waiting for called, Kairo (pulse) which is a film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, of which i am looking forward to. Hopefully that will be good :)
I also ordered a korean horror film called Momento Mori, but i had heard this movie wasnt scary, but was still a good movie, so we shall see i guess :)

I haven't seen Rasen yet. I don't have high hopes for it since I hear that it's the "frogotten sequel" for good reason. But I still want to see it.

now someone was telling me about a movie that at the end; there are flashes of a black screen that says "this scene has been lost" every so often to build suspnece.... anyone know which movie that is? (Or what I'm talking about for that matter...)
I have all the three parts of the japanese movie and this is the best japanese horror that I ever seen in my life.
Unfortunatelly, the american remake was so... light. I didn't liked it,it wasn't absolutely not scary, it was just like a normal mistical movie.

STILL haven't seen Rasen. Man, I really need to work on that. But every time I'm about to get it I'll see something else like Moon Child or Audition or Sukisyo and I'll have to get that instead. Foo.

I didn't like the armican version of the ring because I had seen Scare movie 3 before I saw it.. that kinda screw the whole movie over for me.
The Japanese versions (0,1,2) was more scary, but consisted of only one or two scary scenes and 1½ hour of boring story. And I think there have been made a lot of better horror movies in Japan

Last time I checked story was a good thing. I personally like horror films that put plot over scare. The Ringu films are all about build, similiar to Hitchcock or the early Stephen King films (ie Carrie). The Ringu movies build up to their last moments which, to me, makes them more then just scary but emotionally moving as well. To me horror movies aren't and shouldn't just be things-that-go-bump-in-the-night, true horror slowly eats away at you and does lasting damage to your phsyce. *checks all reflective surfaces in the room*

I'm kind of burned out on the Japanese horror movies, inevitably they all center around the same plot. Something happens to someone because of some dead ghost person, then possibly happens to many more people after that in a similar fashion until the end of the movie, at which point there may or may not be a sequel.
You can see this same plot in Dark Water, One Missed Call, Ring, Kairo, and Juon---
I like Miike's films, but some of them are a little too violent for my tastes, (Audition, Koroshiya 1, Izu)---
I used to watch a lot of these movies, but these days I prefer something more lighthearted where a corpse isn't being dragged down into a well---
For horror, I'd recomend Three Extremes, three short films, and they are all fantastic and freshly done. Also, the Korean movie, R-Point.

I love Ringu, but Ringu 2 is a long way from being good...or scary. I'd put The Ring right behind Ringu.

hehehe....not worth seeing in my opinion. It was soo weird and I remember i was soo disappointed when I saw the film. The DNA-plot in the film didn't do it for me......:-)

Yeah. I have heard.....but is the DNA plot really good in the book?
I really liked the alternate sequel to Ringu....it was very scary, as opposed to the "real" sequel with the DNA, which was not scary at all.....
