Japan Sucks. Period. I've got a bag of pizza chips (crisps if you're British) i'll trade for this entire country. From what I've seen so far it's only worth this one bag of pizza chips (crisps). Serious offers only. One bag of pizza chips for the entire nation of Japan. It's a steal.

Why do you discriminate a whole country like that? Maybe you could try to be a little more specific about what you dislike about Japan.

Another question, why do you go through the 2 minutes of trouble of creating a profile for a forum about a country you don't even like?

So tell us again WHY you signed up on a forum supportive of Japan when you clearly have a great distaste for the country? I mean, do you really hate Japan so much that you took time out of your daily routine to sign up, make a profile, and post an "I hate Japan" thread?

And also, why do you hate Japan so much? If you hate it enough to do all this, then you surely should have numerous, justified reasons for your feeling.

I had a hate love relationship with Japan when I first arrived. As a young 19 year old away from Maine & the US for the very first time, I really felt lost the first few months in Japan. All around me, other servicemen griped about everything wrong with Japan; mainly it was different from home. The new guys all ventured out off base for the first time to the "bar town" to get drunk and flirt with the bar girls. It didn't take long for that to get old. With no Japanese language skills, going into the regular "big city" was pretty scaryfor a kid from the sticks of Maine. I would have packed up and returned home in a minute if I could.
BUT, and that's a big BUT, things changed fast when I made a real effort to learn the language. I lucked out and met a japanese guy my age who wanted to learn English. Within 3 months I could travel around on my on (with a good pocket dictionary) and a whole new Japan opened up for me. I would hop a train or bus to a small town about an hour from the big city. Usually I was the only Gaijin in town, and people were so good to me. I ended up with a fiancee that spoke no English which spured me to learn more Japanese. After 2 years, I felt Japan was more my real home then the US.
Anyway, the long winded point of all my rambling is, give it some time if you can and work hard on learning the language, try to get away from the big cities, and just maybe you may come to love the country like I did.

Let me tell you--- the ebi mayo Pizza-la pizza Doritos aren't that good--- It's not the taste, its the chip--- it's sort of corn-mealy and not like a regular Dorito... I can see where the culture-shock could possibly stem from this fact alone.

Normal Doritos should be kind of thin, and get that Dorito-gunk all over your hands. ;) Pizza Chips?? What? The funniest thing about this whole thread is that its most exotic locale is the BASE PX.

Nor has he ever signed back into this forum since he posted that. I think he must've been relieved of quite a bit of yen at the local hostess bars outside the base in Sagami-Otsuka only to leave broke and with "blue balls".

I can't imagine what else would make him feel so frustrated with the country. Especially when he lives on base and needn't leave it if he doesn't want to as it would still feel like he was back in the USA. I wish he'd sign back in and gives us a few more details.

Of that I have no doubt! HA! Having been stationed in Japan wa-a-a-a-a-a-y back in the late 70's, I remember many of my fellow sailors were similarly relived of their heard earned yen in bars outside the main gate at Yokosuka.

Chances are we probably won't hear from this guy again. I'm guessing he was homesick and didn't like being away from home. I've also seen homesick military guys react with anger and frustration about the places they were stationed at, like their recruiters never told them they'd travel far and wide from their neighborhoods. There is a guy that I know who was jerk to anybody that wasn't his friend. Pretty much most of the senior class hated his guts for his stuck up attitude. Anyway, about a year ago he dropped out of college and decided that gaining an education and living a good life in the private sector just wasn't for him. What did he do? He joined the army. From what I heard, they automatically shipped his sorry ass over to Iraq straight out of boot camp. Despite the guy being such a ***** and enemy of mine and several others, I would never wish something like that on him. I sometimes wonder if he's still alive. From what I heard he is, but I only get vague bits and pieces from his folks and others who associated with him. Let me tell you, if I was in the service you either send me some place other than Iraq, or I'm putting a bullet in my brain. Definitely not something I'd wish on people believe me!

I'm not talking about being killed in combat, I'm talking about the psychological effects of war and how it can be devastating for some. I would much rather kill myself than to come back all messed up psychologically from a war, and have to deal with that for the rest of my life. Sure you can learn to deal with it, but you'll never get over it. That's why I would much rather kill myself altogether rather than coming back dead psychologically.

Hostess bars are fun if you're on your toes. I was fairly discriminating, and ended having a great time, getting completely plastered without breaking 10,000 yen.

Yes, the good old days. Looking back on it now it was a great time, but back then I was pretty upset the first couple of times as I was warned by those that were stationed there for a while. It seems like rex22neo is trying to start trouble like the original poster with a hate-filled Bash Japan post. Have you ever visited Japan? Or are you just swallowing your governments propaganda that Japan's military will do the same thing today and that you should be afraid?

By your post rex22neo, it seems you would like the Chinese military of today to be no different than the Japanese Army of the past. We all know what atrocities the Japanese Army comitted against your country and her people, but those people are long gone and dead. There is no excuse in the world for what they did, but the past cannot be changed. We can only learn from it and prevent it from happening today. If you ask many older Japanese, they severely regret what their country and military did, but their government will not come out and say it. Why I do not know.

But I do know that the Japanese government has given your country billions of dollars to help bring her into the 21st century and build factories and such. But still your government prevents you from being completely free and learning about the true world by preventing you from openly critisizing your own government or accessing all web sites on the internet. Probably the only reason you are allowed to visit this web site is because you are critisizing Japan. But then again, maybe you are a member of the Chinese government. I don't know.

To judge a 21st century country and her people, based on the actions of their country 60-70 years ago, when about 95% of the people today were not even alive then, shows that you are very ignorant of the facts, will not listen to the facts, and will not even attempt to learn anything about modern Japan or your own country as your country and the Chinese government slaughtered millions of Chinese people in the not too distant past. How do you feel about that or is that ok with you? One look at 1989, or the reign of Chairman Mao, should give you some indication. Or are you not allowed to learn about that in school? Alot of people participating in the 1989 uprising in China for freedom have been put to death or are still in jail. Is that the signs of a free, decent country?

It's very sad that some people like you feel this way today and I know that all Chinese people do not feel the same way as you do as they know that the past is the past and it is a different world today.

If you cannot discuss this subject in a mature manner without filling your post with racist remarks and curse words, then I hope the moderators ban you from this forum as there are many other forums out there that will allow you to post racist hate-filled comments.

Mhmmmmmm, the distorted and severly limited experience of japan, gained by american servicemen and women, most more interested in booze, sex and things not being like america.

At least their the minority, i assume.

pizza flavoured chips are good, yakisoba is good, pocky is good, mos burger is good, japanese trains are good (and convenient), vending machines all over the place are good, seafood tomato and all sorts of cup noodles are good, getting a good dinner out of store bought ready-meals heated up at the store for your convenience are good, scaring japanese kids who stare at you outside your apartment building is good, giving "THE SMILE" to japanese cashier girls at the local ozam supermarket is good, drinking a little sake now and then despite an otherwise solid no alcohol policy is good, japanese western style electronic toilets are good, beating your girlfriends sister at her own game; puyo puyo is good, crawling into your girlfriends futon in the tatami room in the morning when the sun is comming up is good, learning how to bathe like a japanese person is good, the complete look of suprise and appriciation on a delivery blokes face when you help him with a heavy package is good, eating japanese food with hashi with your girlfriends family is good, learning to master that souless gaze japanese have while on the train is good.

Plenty of goods and they far out-number your basic "japan sucks" bad.
I wont deny Japan has its downsides, but, their few and far between and dont overall effect my general good mood japan otherwise gives me.

My, my! Where to begin, besides the hideously bad spelling, the terrible lack of punctuation, the wretched sentence construction or the blatantly simple fact that this fool simply doesn't know what he's talking about. Must've been drunk as hell when he composed that tripe. Fifth graders can do better than this, and are probably considerably smarter than this knucklehead to boot. Let's see, how did Japan get so rich? That might have had something to do with the country's incredible work ethic, becoming the world's leader in the development of electronics, computers (which you used to abuse the English language with your half-baked ramblings, Clyde), cameras and automobiles. Don't tell me you weren't aware of that, were you, junior?

While the Rape of Nanking was a monstrous black mark in Japan's history, it pales in comparison to the horrors committed by Nazi Germany (6 million, that's SIX MILLION Jews massacred unless you're not up on your history) during World War II or the inhuman Russian purges under Lenin and Stalin, never mind how the Soviet Union nearly brought about a nuclear fueled World War III back in the 60's thanks to their sneaking ICBM's into Cuba. Let's not forget China with it's decades of brutal human rights violations and oppression of its people which cost thousands and thousands of lives, or even America with it's own disgusting shame of organized slavery in the 18th century, followed by its oppression of Blacks in the 19th and well into the 20th century. Oh, damn, almost forgot to mention that the U.S. Army experimented on Blacks in the '40's, subjecting them to diseases like syphillis to see what the effects would be. Grisly to say the least. Bottom line, when it comes to the art of wholesale butchery, Japan is a rank amatuer.

By the by, whatever gave you the idea that everybody here is Japanese? If you'd be so good as to look at all the little flags at the bottom of each person's profile, you'll see that we're a melting pot of cultures from many countries who are here because we appreciate Japanese culture in all its forms. is Japan perfect? certainly not, but NO country is, so get off your high horse, pal because what you wrote only exposed your bigotry and ignorance. As far as I'm concerned, you have my permission to leave this board and never come back. We're better off without neanderthals like you.

Although the thread was lame to begin with it did lead to further discussion of Japanese hostess bars, foreigners disappointment with Japan, especially US servicemen, and a rant by rex22neo which stirred further discussion on why some people in the world still hate Japan when it was their ancestors who did the atrocities. Not the present day people.

If the mods wants to close it, then so be it. I will not complain. But the discussion started by the OP has generated alot of interest and posts. That is good for the forum I think. I mean, look at how one person's drunken rant caused so many replies. I have seen far less replies on more educational and informative posts which should've generated more replies. But since this a forum about Japan, I vote to let the post stay open unless it gets too ugly and racist.

The post thread hasn't been closed because it's obvious there are people interested in it. It's not really the fact of a pendejo saying bad things about something we love, but it's more like we are interested on seeing the reactions it can cause. Obviusly this two people have issues about them, could be just resentment, or maybe something bad did happen to them while being there, or maybe they're frustrated because they're lost! hehehe...
Anyway, we all have learned something out of it:
1. That the US Army should be a bit careful, cos there's a troll hidden in your lines, that's dangerous for your men.
2. It's no good to be changin' your flag when you can't even write in proper english; it can be insulting for the country.

As for us, c'mon! We all love a nice argument, even though it comes from an ignorant drunk man (or kid, whatever):haihai:

This thread should definitely not be closed--- at least for posterity. It had mikecash's zinger, pizza crisp information, talk about hostess bars (how in the world can one go to a hostess bar and not break 10,000en??? now THAT sounds incredulous!)...

If you are feeling bored, try to find one single complete sentence in the post by rex22neo... And what happened to the original poster? Usually trolls are supposed to bait people, and then come back in for a second straffing run---

This entire thread was inspired by one serviceman's hatred for a country he only marginally interacts with, and bless his heart, his love of pizza crisps...

As for glass houses, throwing stones, and what not, during WWII, I should point out to neo, nee Mr. Anderson, that Canada (as well as the US) seized the properties of Japanese descendents and forcefully imprisoned them, many of whom only later were repaid reperations of some $21,000 dollars...

In Canada, similar evacuation orders were established. Nearly 23,000 Nikkei, or Canadians of Japanese descent, were sent to camps in British Columbia. It was the greatest mass movement in the history of Canada.

Though families were generally kept together in the United States, Canada sent male evacuees to work in road camps or on sugar beet projects. Women and children Nikkei were forced to move to six inner British Columbia towns.

....But this was a long time ago, and I'm American, that is to say that I was born in the United States. Do I cary the burden of my country's horrible actions of enacting Executive Order 9066? Do I cary my country's past on my shoulder?

How can we as people go on living, and forgiving each other when we conciously walk with such a heavy burden?

What I don't understand about people like the original poster, Neo and other such posters in the past is why do it? You spend 2-3 minutes signing on as a member and then spend more time posting your negative comments on a place you don't like. Why even visit such a site if you don't like Japan? I mean do these people join health clubs, drama societies and such like and then as soon as they turn up start saying they hate fit people or plays? It is the same sort of thing.

I think Neo got confused about his country of origin, after all Canada and China both start and end in the same letter, both big countries and both have the colour red in the flag. It is easy for the mentally challenged like him to get confused. It could happen to anyone. He deserves our pity, so don't mock him.

I ended up with a fiancee that spoke no English which spured me to learn more ....

I read all opionons on this. The above story, for me, sums this up. While his exeperience is the japan of 30 years ago (maybe more), and some people are better at learning languages than others, the basic point, is the same. If you adapt a little, work at it, and even fail once and awhile, but get back up. A country like Japan, can be a great experience.

This is completely off topic, but those monkeys remind me of the monkeys I saw on Miyajima Island. You have to take a gondola to a mountain where the monkeys live. Before you walk out of the gondola there are signs that tell you not to feed them, try to touch them, stare at them, show your teeth, etc.
The first thing I see when I walk out there, is a Japanese lady right in front of one of the monkeys laughing, smiling and bowing to it, while the monkey is sitting there baring its teeth and chattering away.

My Mother as a child is the only living relative to be survived. She has 1 arm when she was alive. I am feeling pity for the actions that have been done to her. She was 1 of many kids to help in the 8th Army in China to help the wounded and she had her arm serverly injured and had to be amupatated. I am more fustrated then her because of Japan, i have no other living relative in Japan, She should be 1 of many millions to recieve the money Japan still owes China. He said that as a child she helped out the Chinese Army, figure she had to be at least somewhere around 10 to have done that. At least older than 5, anyway. So if we take 1945 as the latest possible year and assume an age of between 5 and 10, we have her being born 1935-1940, perhaps. That would make her 47-52 when he was born....and that's assuming all conditions to get the best lowball estimate on her age. As you say, not impossible. But highly improbable.

This thread is amusing. I like how something so random came from a troll's post.

I've had a PM form our friend Neo saying and how I am an heartless swine and think only of myself. All I can say is, Thank you. Now go get a real life.

the gandalf figure
All I can picture now is a greying driver with beard, hitting old Japanese lady drivers with his staff.

Cheers for editing my post so you could take a stab it me, i get it, i get it, youve been here so long your turning asian, big deal.

Oh, yes. I'm always bragging about that sort of thing, aren't I?

Granted being a US serviceman, you dont really get a choice of destination,

You are misinformed.

As for my visa stamp not even drying yet, whats your point?

That one who has been here a month should not cast aspersions at the lack of experience of others.

im 20 years old, ive only just had the means to get here, we cant ALL have joined the US army in the seventies

Having been born in 1965, neither could I.

infact being british, thats an impossibility,

Again, you are misinformed. One of my USN shipmates, a cook, was British. There are a great many persons in the US military who are not American citizens.

i know your proud of your status as the gandalf figure of foreign nationals in japan, the longest there

You'll have considerable difficulty justifying that comment.

and others I don't have the time to hunt up right now.

and wisest, but thats no reason to haze the greenies, we all have to start somewhere.

I haze the greenies? This is news.

I pointed out the humor of a person fresh off the Boeing making comments about other foreigners whose Japan experience he finds to be deficient.

Oh okay okay, i get your gripe, "the distorted blah blah view of SOME US servicemen and women blah blah so on so on..."
I apologise for any inconvenience and misunderstandings, as always mike, i value your input on japan related topics.

There we go. That's all that is needed....appropriate qualifiers. They prevent statements from being baseless blanket generalizations and help one to readily distinguish statements of categorical fact (which invite disagreement) and statements of opinion or conjecture.
