Has anyone seen or read any reviews of the new WWII epic film, Otoko-tachi no Yamato (Men of Yamato)...? It's an all male film apparently, and possibly about the sinking of the Yamato--- well, I'm guessing that's what it's about, but I'm not familiar w/ the books it's based on to even say for certain.

I'm wondering how nationalistic the movie will be--- (by nationalistic, I mean to say that a movie that solely seeks to glorify it's subject matter for reasons of national pride)---- There has been great talks of new Japanese nationalism lately, and so much talk every time Koizumi visits the memorial shrine, I wonder how this movie's sentiments will be interpreted.

~ bump. Nobody? Here's a review here (http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117930071?categoryid=31&cs=1&s=h&p=0).

Japanese big-boat WWII drama "Yamato" surges with patriotism, sentiment and gore but is unlikely to hit many targets outside Nipponese waters. A combo of "Titanic" and "Pearl Harbor," blockbuster garnered strong local biz during the winter after a slow pre-Christmas launch. Centering on the wartime exploits of the largest naval vessel ever, yarn will appeal to military buffs and Asia completists, and the bloody finale, reminiscent of the opening reels of "Saving Private Ryan," is gruelingly impressive.I'd like to see this movie, but I'll probably have to order it in Region 2.

I haven't seen the movie, although I also thought it would be nationalistic when I first saw the trailers. From what students have told me, it isn't so nationalistic, and it goes a lot more into the pain the people felt during the war.

Though, I'll probably have to struggle without sub-titles. And I'm not great at movies w/ predominantly male roles.
