Hi, Ive been reading up on Japanese heraldry (mon), and wondering how people feel it should be used today. From what I can gather the use of mon has always been less regulated than that of european heraldry, and in times past many adopted a mon they merely liked the look of. What do you feel should be the considerations of someone seeking to use a mon today? Should use be restricted to those have ancestral mon that they know of? Should any japanese feel free to choose an existing mon (excluding the obvious, of course, such as the imperial chrysanthemum) that they like the look of? Have a new one designed for themselves? What about someone in a neighbouring nation with a love of japanese culture? Would a person of chinese heritage be in good taste making use of a mon that was itself evolved from a chinese design?
By the way, this in no way relates to myself (im very very un-japanese), im just curious.
