I just ordered Ayuchan's new cd yesterday from CD Japan. I haven't gotten it yet, of course, it's expected to be here sometime next week. I can't wait to check out the songs. I would download them just to see, but I have no clue where to get them.

Does anyone here have the cd already?

Twisted
Jul 27, 2002, 07:21
I've heard the songs just once, but all three songs on the cd are very good. Independent is my favorite for now, but i still have to listen to the songs a few more times.

Does anybody know why the title of this single is H?

MHtrStevie
Jul 27, 2002, 07:37
Maybe it's to make the three songs on the single equal... and to pair up with the earlier single "A" which contained four songs from the LOVEppears album (Monochrome, Too Late, Trauma and End Roll IIRC).

Just a theory... ;)

Kiyotsuki
Jul 30, 2002, 13:41
That could make it two reasons. Mainly (and I just realized this... shows how much I looked at the track names) H is for the featured song on the single, Hanabi.

Twisted
Jul 30, 2002, 15:01
I just figured it out and it's actually pretty obvious.
First there was the single A and now there is H.
These are her initials.

I wonder if she's going to spell out her whole name... :)

or
loose socks = $30 on the blue sailor market (used and smelly of course)

And they even use glue to fix them, yuck...

Here's an old article I found:

A Sock To The System

Conform, conform, conform. That's the message driven into Japanese students. But some schoolgirls stick to their own rules

"Loose socks make your legs look thinner"

Funny thing is that make legs look thicker too ;)

Currently not many girls wear these socks anymore. The fashion has past but some still stick to old ideas.

There rest of her features (mouth, nose, flappy ears) seem te be correct. She's probably squeezing her eyes together because of the strong wind.

Other then that, i think she just had a bad make-up day. :)

Let's just say that i don't entirely agree with the way mr. Bush handles his affairs, but let's not get into politics here.

The music note appears to be a clip-on. Ayumi is very trend-setting when it comes to accessories. She made cowboy-hats and foxtails very popular in Japan.

Maybe she had her eyes done OR that's a picture of a look a like porn star :D

And Ayu wanna be anarchy (in Thailand)

She didn't really want to go. "What do I have to go to Thailand for?" she grumbled. Even the prospect of an audience with a royal princess failed to rouse her. Was she herself not royalty? The queen of J-Pop? The mainstay of a sagging music industry? The first, second and last word in teen and post-teen fashion? God herself, to her millions of fans?

Ayumi Hamasaki, at 24, is all these things, and this quasi-diplomatic mission to Bangkok, where she would have to kneel before a mere princess by blood, left her cold. But the Thai-government was keen to host her, and her record company was keen to send her, and so, sullenly resenting that all the worship she commands has not made her mistress of her own fate, she went. It would have been better if she'd stayed home.

Shukan Bunshun recounts the fiasco.

The prime mover, with staunch Thai government backing, was the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association. Thailand's biggest market for its gem exports is Japan. Who better than Hamasaki to implant in Japanese young people a craving for Thai rubies?

The arrangements that took shape called for her to spend four days in Bangkok. On Day Three she would take part in a palace ceremony and present Princess Ubonratana, the eldest daughter of King Rama IX, with the 3.6 million yen collected by the TGJTA for the princess' narcotics eradication program.

Hamasaki left Narita for Bangkok on Nov. 26. Trouble began before the Thai Airways plane was off the ground. Her luggage, with its 100 outfits, took time to load. Her protests over the seating arrangements took time to deal with -- she was not pleased to learn the first-class seat next to hers would be occupied. When the plane finally took off, 40 minutes late, the seat in question was taken -- reports Shukan Bunshun -- by Hamasaki's teddy bear.

At Bangkok's Don Muang Airport, the star snubbed a troupe of Thai dancers on hand to welcome her and brushed past a pack of reporters into a waiting limo, which whisked her along streets cleared of traffic to her $2,600-a-night accommodation at the Peninsula Hotel.

For the next two days she behaved as if her mission entailed offending as many people as possible, giving short shrift to reporters, abruptly canceling a scheduled TV appearance, and indulging in the sort of conspicuous consumption that is an outrage to less privileged members of our species.

Then came the "main event." One of 10 VIP participants, Hamasaki was ushered into a palace waiting room to await a rehearsal. There were formalities to master: the proper bow, the proper deportment (don't look higher than the princess' eyes). The rehearsal duly began -- but where was Hamasaki? When had she slipped out?

The ceremony was over before she reappeared, looking perfectly composed. Adding insult to injury, one of her staffers snapped a photo of the princess.

"It's a rather embarrassing story," a record company spokesperson tells Shukan Bunshun. "Hamasaki simply refused to take part. She said she wouldn't kneel to the princess. Her staff tried to make her see reason, but it was no use. 'I don't want to, and that's that,' she said."

With that she flounced out through a back exit and took refuge, apparently, in a parked bus. Just an over-pampered kid in a bad mood, you might say. True -- but Shukan Bunshun wonders if Hamasaki realizes how close she came to getting herself arrested. The Thai royal family enjoys a quasi-divine status, similar to that of Japan's prewar emperor. An insult to the royals is no laughing matter. On the contrary, it's generally a police matter. Hamasaki got away with it, the magazine speculates, only because Princess Ubonratana has a soft spot for performers.

That is funny. I guess she should really be dubbed, "Ayu the Snob". I think that whole Madonna comparison has finally gotten to her head.

FumetsuGolf
Feb 28, 2003, 06:58
Hmm, I guess her celebrity is getting to her head. If she's not careful, this sort of behavior will cause her to lose it.

Funny, though, I hear Jennifer Lopez is the same way here in the states.

Mar 3, 2003, 02:08
I really think your way too hard with Ayu. Imagine it was you! I understand why she didn't want to go and see the princess and all. Would you want to?
And it's not like it was her fault someone took a pic of her.

FumetsuGolf

It would be different if this hadn't been the first time, but I've heard of this type of behaviour from her before.

Twisted
Mar 3, 2003, 04:34
Uhm, i wouldn't mind meeting a Thai princess. Wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life in Thailand actually.

Anyway, if you're a celebrity, you have to be available for these kind of things. It comes with the territory and she gets very well paid for it. If she doesn't want to take part in this, she'd better give up her carreer and get a job at the local fast-food joint.

thomas
Mar 3, 2003, 04:47
Absolutely correct, it's part of her biz. No one would have urged her to bow, kotow or whatever. Anyhow, I read that the princess was very understanding and laughingly blamed it on "Ayu being an artist".

Yeah... around here we have a different name for it. :D:D:D:D

Iron Chef
Mar 3, 2003, 22:38
It's a shame that someone with her star power would be so adverse to such an experience. After reading this, I immediately thought of a news story I had recently read about J-Lo here in the States just a few short days ago (as a model of comparison).

"Jennifer Lopez Travels in Style"
Fri Feb 28, 9:34 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - "American actress and singer Jennifer Lopez used six limousines to travel from one top-class hotel to another equally swish hotel -- a distance of about 100 yards, British newspapers reported.

The Daily Mail newspaper said onlookers were dumbstruck as the singer and 30 or so members of her entourage spent 15 minutes clambering into the vehicles for the short trip along swanky Park Lane between the Metropolitan Hotel and the Dorchester hotel."

You can read the entire story here:

I wouldn't have minded bowing before a Princess...its all out of respect...part of being an artist of any kind is adapting to the cultures that you might be a part of even for a short time. I think that she just made a big deal out of something that it was kind of silly to make a big deal about.

lineartube
Mar 4, 2003, 07:16
I remember hearing about stories of when Sinatra was in Portugal for a concert. At first the guy got pissed off because he had asked for a limo and someone brought a top of the line Mercedes-Benz. Boy, was he mad...

:D

I guess every performer has his/her quircks. :)

but that's not a good thing to have are quirks like that, who knows of of these times a quick might lead to war. An artist relates with people an is an icon to many people so they should treat people with respect ne?

I haven't heard them yet! I can never find this stuff out!! I wonder if we can start a song swap here, you know like emailing mp3s to each other. The only CD's I have are CD's that my Japanese friends have given me when they came to visit! I've managed to find a few on LimeWire, but that doesn't give you much info and I'm not farmiliar with Japanese artists and who's who. I enjoy all kinds of music, so it's not just genre specific...

No, we most certainly can't. If you want to keep up to date about Japanese music, check the new release lists at http://www.cdjapan.co.jp and get yourself a high paid job so you can actually afford buying those original cd's. :p

Back on topic. I think "Game" is quite good. "Inspire" on the other hand is a bit too Britney'esque production-wise. Haven't heard anything else from the album yet. It's usually the remixes of her songs that i like best.

point4m
Sep 12, 2004, 22:23
OK, so I understand the logistics of a song swap thing, but is there a website that does a little preview of the songs before you buy? I have a mac and use iTunes, but so far they don't have anything Japanese listed. It as a great feature that plays a good portion of the songs on an album, then you can buy the songs you want singularly. Of course it isn't available in Canada yet, but the US can do this, and I can still preview the songs. Any ideas?

Twisted
Sep 13, 2004, 04:02
Well, you'd mostly have to check the artist's official website for soundsamples. Most artists have at least a few seconds of their new songs online and some even have portions of the promo-vid for those songs.

The label Ayumi is on (Avex) is a bit of an exception though. Instead, they offer a few online tv-channels, which you have to register for (and they probably cost money as well).

I absolutely LOVE her music!! My favorite J-pop artist! Her newest stuff is my favorite, personally. GAME and Inspire, along with Because of You are AMAAAAZING!! I just love her stuff!!! The vibration thing... yeah, it does get annoying at times, but I think it can really add to the effect sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. I dunno, her voice may not be as great as say Utada's, but just the rhythm and beat are awesome.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents...

I think Ayu is simply awesome. I recently got into her and realized that Jpop was just as good as Jrock, if not better. Does anyone know where I can listen to Ayu's songs online for free? Like Myspace? Avex is removing the Ayu pvs on Youtube and that was my main source of Ayuness. I esp. like songs like New Game and Evolution.

Hmm, I've noticed that both Ayu and Gackt like to put vibrato on every. single. note. I guess that's a prerequisite to being a major pop idol.

Definately not a rumor. "Secret" WILL be a full length album with 14 tracks as it says on her official site. 7 PVs as well as 7 making ofs. The flash says(from my understanding) "the 2nd mini album is now 8th original album. CD includes 14 songs. DVD 7 PVs and & making ofs"

It's very hectic for ayu for the next month as she states that she and her team will be pulling all nighters finishing the album. :D

I'm listening to 'Secret' right now, so I have to write about it ^^
This album is just GREAT. The only song, which I do not like very much is 'Born to be...' and it's only because when I hear it I'm always thinking about Olympics or ****. I even started to like BF! My fav tracks are: until that Day..., 1LOVE,JEWEL, momentum & kiss o' kill.

And the pvs... the pvs for singles are horrible (except 'Startin'), JEWEL is beautiful but boring and 'momnetum' pv is simple greatness *_______*

Now, I just have to wait for cd to come...

I really love Ayumi. I love her voice and i have many of her Albums. I love the songs Teddybear and Dearest and Born to Be Free. She was one of the first major Jpop music artist that i feel in love with. I can identify with some of her songs. I also look up to her as positive role model for myself or any young girl who want to be a singer. Or what ever you want to be? She beautiful talented and she can dress classy without looking a slut (Like Madonna manges to do) And i think she not afraid to try something new (Look,Music Style E.T.C)

LOL, so there's still hope for me? :p

Anyway, I still need to hear more of her to actually become her fan. But no, it's not the squeaky voice that necessarily bothers me (although that's completely annoying... That's why I don't really like Japanese female singers, except a few that sing a little less 'squeaky-ly'... xD). There are some songs in which she sings kinda deep (compared to other songs) and, even so, something in... I don't know, her voice 'texture' can't completely convince me.

But, as I said, she's growing on me slowly.

In my case, that's the nly Ayumi PV I've ever watched. xD I haven't devoted myself to look for her PVs, cause I'm just starting to get to know her music and I'm not even such a huge fan so... :) But I know I'll eventually watch some more. Any recommendations? :souka:

As for my friend, he moved to Japan to get married and, in order to find a job, he entered a "gaijin tarento" agency (one of those places where they list you and try to get you to participate in commercial, video clips or campaigns that need foreigners to give a different look to the product or stuff like that). It was that agency the one who got him to participate in the cast to appear in one of Ayumi's PV (Beautiful Fighters) and, luckily, he was selected. He appears like 5 seconds on screen but he was completely happy with the mere idea of being in the same set with her and to be standing like 3 mts away from her. xD I'm sure I would have been thrilled if I had been selected to participate in my favorite artist's PV! :p

I was surprised about some news about her yesterday, I don't think everyone is aware about it, but she is deaf in her left ear.

Japanese pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki deaf in left ear
BEIJING, Jan. 6 -- Japanese pop icon Ayumi Hamasaki wrote on her fan club website on Friday that she would continue singing despite losing her hearing in her left ear.

Hamasaki said an ear examination last year confirmed her hearing loss.

"Despite this news, I still wish to be a singer," she wrote.

Hamasaki started to lose the hearing in her left ear in the summer of 2000 when momentary deafness forced her to cancel several concerts, according to a media report.

The singer will start her second concert tour of Asia in April to mark the tenth anniversary of her singing career. The tour includes 19 concerts around Japan. The venues in other Asian countries have not yet been announced.

I also knew she was since even about a year ago (unofficial)

I got over it back then and her music wont be influenced by that. I compare it with Mozart...he didn't even hear at all and was the greatest musician...she doesn't hear on one side and yet still is the greatest in our time ^^

But let's talk about the cheerful side of her..I'm sure she wouldn't want us mourning over this ^_~

Can't imagine nor would I want to imagine what it would be like for Ayu to be deaf completely and not be able to hear her own music or her favorite artists.

I'm glad she'll keep singing, I've got a lot of respect for that.

And her new album "Guilty" rocks!!!! I love the guitars in this album.
My favorite songs are "Together When..." and "Marionette".

She'll always be one of my all-time favorite artists.

It's her 10th anniversary today <33 even though I became a fan since the release of Depend on You, so I can't celebrate until December. XD

I did a 10th Anniversary A logo modification

Tried to make it more rockish, yet elegant and celebrative ^^

I made a wallpaper then from it:

This took a loooong time btw :P

And if you combine this with the Ayu Windows icon pack I made and posted here on JREF as well, then you can get something like this ^^

Ayumi...very beautiful woman. Alas, I only like two of her songs...them being Naturally and Evolution. I am a huge trance fan with emphasis on vocal trance. Naturally is what got me interested in her. If anyone knows any songs similar to naturally let me know :P

I've been neglecting Ayumi because she doesn't have a song that really gets my attention. However, she does have a beautiful voice. Have a listen. :-)
