In this thread, let's post the plot twists, the unbelievable moments in an anime series that, regardless of how closely you followed a particular show, you never saw coming to save your life. Something that genuinely surprised the hell of you, adding to the suspense that came from watching that show. I'm sure we've all experienced such moments. Here's my moment:
From the first season of Magic Knight Rayearth, after Hikaru, Umi and Fuu go through all sorts of hell in Cephiro to find and awaken the Rune Gods in order to rescue Princess Emeraude from the clutches of High Priest Zagato, up pops a plot twist that not just came out of left field, but the damn stadium. Turns out that Zagato wasn't quite the bad guy he was made out to be, he was in love with Emeraude but she couldn't return his affection since as Pillar, her constant prayers maintained the stability of Cephiro, so he kidnaps her to save her from what he viewed as a fate worse than death and was willing to let Cephiro fall to ruin to relieve her of her burden.
When Emeraude's prayers weaken after her feelings for Zagato surface, endangering the entire world, she summons the girls from Tokyo for what turns out to be the express purpose of being her executioners! Something the girls weren't told about from jump street. And Emeraude gets her wish after the girls kill Zagato and she goes ape@#$%, summons up her own Rune God to get some payback and the girls are forced to fulfill their destiny by destroying her. It usually doesn't take long for me to figure out a plot twist from a story, but this one shocked me! Your turn now! What's your most memorable plot twist from an anime you've seen?
