Hi again, folks,

ILm an argentinian comicbook creator and I am writing a story that takes place in ancient Japan.

I had an idea yesterday about including a Shogun getting killed somewhere in the story but I found out one thing: I had no idea if there were any shogun that was murdered. So, before running through all japanese story to find one that fit my needs, I come to you, just in case you know of someone that did and narrow down my search.

Also, two more questions about Shoguns:

How could someone become a Shogun? Wich people did you need to know and things like that.

Is it known that there may be a Shogun involved with criminal activities (the first word that comes to mind is Yakuza, but I donLt know a word in japanese :p)?

Thanks in advance, folks! :)

As with every creative piece of work that strives for a modicum of historical accuracy, it'd be a good idea to do some individual research for this. Try wikipedia, it should have extensive information available on the Shoguns of Japan, how they came to power, and how they died. To quickly answer your question, there are many Shogun who were murdered, and that is one of the ways their successors came into power.

足利 義輝 Ashikaga Yoshiteru
From his inner strength and skills of katana that he was known to have practiced regulary, Yoshiteru was calledKengo Shogun(剣豪将軍) and was as close to a samurai and a warlord as a shogun sinceAshikaga Takauji had been. His governance was highly credited but to have been killed despite all actions completely destroyed what little recognition and authority Yoshiteru built up.

Shogun was a hereditary position. You could really only become it if your father or uncle was shogun or if you were adopted into the shogunal family.

I highly doubt you're gonna find any shogun rubbing elbows with Yakuza. Any criminal activity they might have been involved in is rubbing out their rivals (most likely family members). A couple of the Ashikaga shoguns were murdered though. Search the web. You'll find info.

Ashikaga Yoshinori in 1441, during the Kakitsu Rebellion (if I remember correctly, it was over events in the previous Eikyo Rebellion).
