Kamikaze Girls

Just watched Kamikaze Girls last night and had a ball. That was the goofiest, most whacked out movie I've seen in a long time! It's hard to describe the plot, but the exploits of a self-absorbed "Lolita" wannabe and a tough talking "Yanki" biker chick made for one hell of a cool comedic adventure which I thought was a real hoot. Just finished watching it, pretty crazy movie.
The anime cutscene and explanation of her childhood was hilarious, although i did think it started to get a bit boring towards the end.

Pretty impressive cast/production as well, didnt even realise it was Kyoko Fukada in the pics but she fit the character really well anyways.

Anna Tsuchiya is pretty hot :blush:

Just saw the Trailer. Looks Like a good movie, Fun and emotional (though I must say this smell of a true girl movie considering the trailer and the plot)

I found it at a very fair price of the net and have just ordered it, it will be at my house around friday so I can't wait to see it then :-) (I also found the "Dark Tales of Japan" dvd for a low price so that will be in the package too :D)

I can recommend this Movie. I just got it with the mail today, and have just watched it.
It was quite funny actually. Though I would call this a "Girl" movie" I think it avoids classic boring girlie drama so that they boys will be able to see this one to without getting bored or fall asleep.

This is a really great movie, as an alternative to a lot of the other more serious or at least weighty Japanese movies...

I really dig Tsuchiya, Ana, and Fukada, Kyoko is great in the movie as well. I like to think of both their characters as more truly representitive of the traits of Japanese youth to un-ironically, and passionately embrace trends, as disperate and strange as they may seem...

I don't know why it's called Kamikaze Girls, maybe because Shimotsuma Monogatari (http://www.midnighteye.com/reviews/kamikazegirls.shtml) would be too boring to lure foreign audiences... Still, there is an almost repetative abundance of films titled similarly in Japan... Lord of the Rings == Ringu Monogatari, Cronicles of Narnia == Narnia Monogatari etc etc...

With all the films about rampaging insane Yakuza bosses and filmatic essays about the nature of violence in Japanese popular culture, it's good to have a nice fluffy pink film with a few spikey edges to make things interesting...

ed: How are the subtitles? My version comes from subtitles translated from hard-coded Chinese subtitles, and are as such pretty decent.

i bought this movie couple months ago, NOT knowing how it was going to be,except for a very short trailer i saw on a previous Movie. i put it in this last Friday, and have watched it 3 times since then. Very good movie i love all the characters,they did an awesome job on the CAST they really brought the characters to life. i love Kyoko Fukada,the most.the dad was funny lol, just a fun movie to watch.i downloaded the Soundtrack for the movie, i listen to SHE SAID,Time machine and Hey my friend over and over and over again.very catchy . i give Kamikaze Girls 9.8 : )

i love it. it's bizarre, but it's one of my favorite movies. has some girl power elements (bleh) but it's worth it, i think. it's about the freindship between a pessimistic lolita girl and an eccentric yanki girl (is that how you spell it? basically, she's in a biker gang)

Oh, my girlfriend told me about this movie. She says it's really good. I read the manga Kamikaze Girls by Novala Takemoto and Yukio Kanesada. It's really good and cute. And a bonus story after the main one, too!

I've been looking for hours and I can't find one anywhere :(:okashii: I would really apprentice it if someone could help me find one, or maybe even a site that could tell me how to make one [though I'd much rather buy one for lazy reasons, and I'm not all that great at sewing]

aww..... after watching the movie i feel GREATFUL!!!! it kinda reminds me of Nana and fruits basket!! but this thing is WAY BETTER!! i love when momoko calls herself Hitomo's daughter spell!?> and all Yanki's are like DONG!~ and when she and ichiko beat the other gang members up the bakground music was SOOOO FUNNY!!!:( i LOVE Kamikaze Girls !!!!
