I noticed that there have been numerous posts about studying at Japanese universities. But most foreigners are concerned about the cost of studying and living in Japan. In fact, I have just added some data from Mombusho (Japanese Ministry of Education) about the costs for a Japanese student living out of home during the 4 years while pursuing the undergraduate degree.

According to the magazine I was reading, the same Mombusho report also highlighted that there is a scenerio of Japanese universities bankrupting in the year 2007. This is due to the low birthrate of modern Japanese society which means more colleges and less students in the year 2007.
Some may argue that more colleges chasing for less students may mean lower school fees, but it is clear that most Japanese would still aim for the best universities, meaning that the fees at the best universities would not be lower but may in fact increase too, while the "less popular" universities either bankrupt or go overseas to pull in paying students.
The report also mentions about the education costs for supporting a child from kindergarten through to university (all public funded establishments) in Japan. It is projected to be about 10 million yen. If the child were to stay out during his university days, the figure would be about 14 million yen. This is the lowest as private funded school fees are much higher.
Looks like the lower birth rate in Japan is not only affecting the viability of the old retirement fund payout system, it is also resulting in higher education costs.

That's interesting! At first, I'd be glad that birthrates are going down anywhere, but wow! 10 million yen(I can't even say that in Japanese, it's such a high number  ). Let's see... How did it go? Oh yeah:

10,000,000 Y =
100,000.00 $

Woah. That is a lot. おやまあ![oh, dear]
