Japanese conscripts, drafts, enlistments WWII

Hi guys! Been a while!

To those who know, I'm still working on my novel and I believe it's coming out great. Anyway, I need a few details again on WWII.

How exactly were young Japanese soldiers sent to the army? I'm still confused with these whole conscripts, drafts and enlistments thing. Did they receive the letter through mail or something? Do they go immediately to battle or do they train first?

And also, I'd really appreciate it if you can give me e-mails of Japanese historians. Thank you so much!
