I think it will be great to have a korean forum.
I doubt you'll find much support for that opinion. I think there shouldn't be one because there's no need for it, and it's not directly related to Japan. There are Korean forums out there -- I'm sure of it.
Actually my opinion on this is pretty much the same as it is on the proposed environment and animal rights (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21975) forums.

I held off voicing my opposition because I thought I'd give somebody else a chance to be first.

Is it me or are there a lot of newbies asking for things that aren't of any use lately :?

Of course one could argue that Korea is no less deserving of a forum than China, and a China forum was added recently.

Yeah, but better not to add new stuff, I say. Getting rid of the China forum is a different topic.

Why not just add forum for every country...then we can call it the ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ forums! Not that JREF really stands for anything anymore anyway.

When you try to be all things to all people you run a very real danger of ending up being nothing to nobody.

That's a great name! We wouldn't even have to limit ourselves to countries. We literally could do it all! Think of the possibilities!

It may help to keep all this straight if you force yourself to think of JREF on the
(Japan) forum page as "Japan Reference and Europe/Eupedia Forum," on the non-forum pages still as "Japan Reference" and China as just as much a part of the group but somehow not included in the name...but strangely the other fora that which seems to get the most cross-over participation from American, Asian and other non-Chinese members.
HTH ! :p

My forum experience is not extensive -- but the situation here is certainly more *ahem* unique than anything I have encountered previous. :-)

The only two points that should be taken into consideration are covered in Glenn's message above.
1. Is there support for it?
2. The fact that a "China Forum" already exists is relevant if there is enough support for a Korea Forum. If the support for the new forum exists and you refuse you most certainly expose yourself to a charge that you are discriminating.
The arguments for or against the China Forum and the Europe Forum should have already covered the point brought up frequently in this thread that this should remain a "Japan related only" forum. It seems logical to assume the argument that some other nationalities could/should be represented won out.
It doesn't seem to make any sense to have that same argument everytime somebody asks for a new nationality to be allowed to have a forum. At least not to me.

Hmm the fact that the only 'super active' korean member doesn't even post anymore... I dont think that there would be too much to say.
However, I have spoken about Korea in a number of different threads, and dont really think that it Korea would benefit anymore by having their own little forum on Jref... somehow I dont think that its going to mind.
Yeah there are other Korean forums, but in all honesty, I havent seen any that are remotely interesting... point me in the direction if you know of a 'good one'.
Dont think that at this stage there is an overwhelming need for it....

Koreans are busy making a film in Indonesia about World War Two and the Japanese occupation of the islands.
I don't mind if there is a Korean forum.

Koreans are making a film about World War Two in Indonesia at this moment.
:D What's next a forum about the Middle East, Africa, the Russian Federation etc? This would change the nature of this website. In the past it was only a Japan focussed forum.
Yeah, isn't there a distpute between Japan and Russia about the ownership of some islands? Japan did invade Russia around the turn of the twentieth century, too.
Japanese is also similar in grammar to Turkish. Let's have a Turkish forum too. They're applying for EU membership, anyway, so that works in two ways.
There are also a lot of Brazilians living in Japan. We need a Brazilian forum, too.

Anyone more interested in European culture should never have agreed to a position of leadership on a Japanese forum to begin with in my opinion...no one is forcing the issue, if you don't want to be here or have anything to do with Japan you probably shouldn't be. :p

I couldn't agree more.
Why does Jref need a Korea forum? Why does it need a China forum? Why does it need a European forum?
The answer is, it doesn't. But for whatever reason, the powers that be decided that it would be in their best interests to expand. At least they are trying to give us the option to block the fora we don't wish to see. The only problem with that I can see is that most people probably aren't aware of that feature.
I have nothing against China or Europe, etc., but as I have said before, Jref is already bloated enough as it is in my opinion.
