Has anyone here in Japan ever seen the drama series "Jou no Kyoshitsu?"

It is about a lady teacher of an elementary school who is very strict with her children. She is cold and almost robotic. She wears all black and a black long coat. Hair pulled tightly back. Sharp looking. Kind of like a teacher from The Matrix.

Let me know if any of you have seen it.

yah, i have seen it and have the whole series, but only watched the first one
the lead actress is very impressive, especially since child actors there are usually so bad
the storyline itself really brings back some fond/not-so-fond memories of tutelage under my japanese langauge teacher ugh
will revisit this thread again after watching the whole series
here's the website though

she look like a goth to me though

Ohhhhhh budd! I can`t believe I missed this show tonight. I had been looking forward to watching it. I got so bumbed out when The Family Guy wasn`t on tonight earlier, I had totally forgotten about Jou no Kyoshitsu. Grrrr.

Ok, I will try to catch it next week. Glad to see someone else knows of it and will be watching it. Great that you have the whole series.

I am going to go to the video store to see if I can get it. However, the drama of it which I have been watching since 2 weeks ago goes into explaining how and why she became that cold gothic look. In other words, it is a prequel to the series you most probably have.

Yes, by all means come back to this thread. -- SVF

I think so, too. I think it is the "freakiness" that pulls me in. Her whole hard straight no nonsense cut through the cr@p is just very seductive.

btw, did you see it last night? I missed it.

Ahhhh...the show was just awesome tonight! JUST FREAKIN AWESOME!!

Episode 2:

The queen teacher`s story started off with her confrontation with a bully who is terrorizing the other kids. This kid later almost causes the death of anothe student and then she goes to confront him.

A very very bloody fight ensues between her and this 6th grade boy.

Well, she is suspended for two years and has to undergo "re-education" (keep in mind this whole think is a flash back of two years ago).

Then finally a principal from another school comes to offer her a position and he asks her what her teaching style will be like when she comes back (before she acted all giddy and naive like a friend to the kids) and she replies, "I will be a demon."

AND then the scene cuts to her getting dressed for her first day of school after being suspended for two years. She is putting on this grey conservative suit and she looks in the mirror and sees the scar on her neck from where the boy had sliced her in their bloody fight two years earlier, then she reconsiders her outfit.

The background music turns into gothic opera and then she looks at her black high neck suit and boots and begins to get dressed, pulls back her hair tight and gets that sharp matrix gothic image. And the music is just building with resonating drums, opera and what not and then she is walking down the hallway to meet her class.

Oh, just excellent! And then she throws open the door where all the kids are in the class waiting to meet their new teacher. They look at her like she is the meanest looking ***** monster they have ever seen and she doesn`t even crack a smile -- No nonesense BS teacher in the house!

I rent the video :-) Is the actress herself a professional dancer? Can't really related that freaky teacher to a dancer. The director is really skillful in making this drama though. Before watching it I was like.. yeah sure how serious can conflict between a 10 year old and a elementary school teacher be. It turns out I became interested in knowing what's gonna happen next and couldn't help watching the show!

Goppgo, the drama you are renting is the original series. I am talking about the prequal which has come after that. In this prequal there are only two parts, "Episode 1, and 2). The prequal has not come to the rental shops yet.

I have not seen the original series. I am going to have my wife rent it for me this week. The prequal explains how she became the freaky image she is now.

Man, a Japanese drama has never really pulled me in the way this one has. Like you said, the director is great here. And the actress, just wonderful.
