Who here has had Kangaroo before? Its much healthier than been being very low in fat and cholesterol, high in iron and protein, and in recent years has become very popular in Australia.
I personally like seasoned Kangaroo steaks cooked medium rare with a cranberry and beetroot sauce. Oh, and Japanese style Kangaroo curry for the perfect cross-culture meal!
Many times, but it has to be fresh and young, otherwise its gamey and rubbery. Good on a barbecue.

Im just wondering... not on a political or animal activist front, just out of curiosity, how many Kangaroos roughly are in Australia?
Do people get upset with others eating Kangaroo?
What meat is it best described as? Bambi deer?
Really? do they eat kangaroo meat in Australia?? That's ...

Kangaroo meat is nice! I made it myself 3 times, and I can also buy it in here in the Netherlands.
there are Heaps of kangaroo´s in australia, and sometimes even to many so that´s why they get killed, and some just drive into them, and take them home with them... I have heard some nasty story´s about that, but i´ll save you people the details!

I've never had kagaroo meat. I wonder if it tastes like venison, then I'm sure I will like it.
Kangaroo curry sounds really good.

Kangaroo has a stronger taste than beef. I can't remember what venison tastes like (its been a while) so I can't comment on here.
There are alot of Kangaroos in Australia. Estimates put them at around 15 to 60 million. Alot of farmers shoot roos on their properties and see them as a "pest" and that numbers have increased over the years. One of the big issues is that with the increase in numbers there a decrease in the amount of food and water available for the roos, so by controlling the numbers the remaining roos have enough food and water to survive. From memory the legal number allowed to be killed is around 5-6million per year.
I remember a few years back there was an animal activist making alot of noise about the commerical Kangaroo market. Funniest part was she was from England, and even Australian animal activists thought she was nuts and didn't have a clue what was going on :p
Misa, I had Kangaroo curry when I went out camping. Took some fresh meat, vegies and the packet curry, and cooked it over a campfire, was delicious!

I went out with my husband for dinner once in a restaurant high up in a tower in Sydney when we were still dating. They had Kangaroo steaks there; they even had crocodiles as well as emus. It was then my husband tried Kangaroo meat for the first time, as well as the others I mentioned, and the result? My husband liked the Kangaroo and the emu steaks:cool: , but not the crocodile.:p
I didn't dare to try it then, but the next time I think I will.:-)

I promised I'd whip something up Tuesday, so if it goes to plan I'll even post some pictures (and recipes, where to buy Roo in Tokyo, etc) on here for you guys ;)
yeah, kangaroos are pests in the farm, they eat all the crop. We have friends who own a HUGE farm, he has a lot of land. We have permission to shot and kill kangaroos. Howerver we do not shoot for fun, we only kill what we need.
Still i hate killing things, it is very said seeing them go down.. but i spose it is like that will all animals we eat.
but yes, there are more kangaroos in australia then there are people!
