Livedoor and Horie's release

I didn't see a proper category for this, so since I saw a Livedoor thread in here already..

I saw that Horie was allowed to bail himself out (300 million yen). I was wondering what most forum members think about these issues

a) Was Horie persecuted by the more conservative business leaders with influence in the LDP?

b) How involved was Horie in the financial window-dressing of Livedoor's accounts?

c) Do you think it was fair that Horie stayed in jail for 3 months simply because he refused to confess?

d) Do you think Horie will much time if he is convicted (in addition to his 3 months already served)?

e) Is Livedoor just the tip of the iceberg of business corruption in Japan?

I'll give some of my opinions soon with comments.

For refusing to confess I don't think it's unfair he spent time in pretrial detention. If there was any preferential treatment or 'unfairness' involved (for a tycoon after all) it would have to be the Tokyo District Court's decision to allow him freedom without an admission of guilt, overriding the normal standard.


This is all based on brief articles in the Japanese press, although it's pretty clear there aren't a lot of members with the knowledge to answer with any more depth. :worried:

Its hard enough to do that anywhere - but I am surprised he lasted as long as he did.

My experience with Japanese companies in Indonesia is that there are some who follow the rules of "money talks".

Of course, Indonesian government are much worse but the private companies in Indonesia usually are not that bad compared to those Japanese-owned companies in Indonesia.
