View Full Version : Japanese opinion of muscular gaijin
I was just wondering what the general Japanese opinion is of muscular gaijin men. Here in America, slightly muscular men are generally admired. Then once you get beyond a certain point of development, people look at you as more of a freak (which is ok too ). So I was just wondering what Japanese men and women think of men with advanced muscular development, since I'm sure they see much less of it than we do here in America. One friend told me that they can get very intimidated. Another told me that some girls find it gross. Another told me that Japanese men or Yakuza will try to pick fights with you because of your size. I'm not the type of person that will alter my habits or appearance to appease to be a part of the mainstream, but I was just curious how the Japanese viewed this.
On a side note, any good gyms in the Shibuya area? I'm not talking about pristine and polished gyms with 100 treadmills and dumbbells that only go up to 25lbs.

Unless you happen to be as big as Bob Sapp, you're not going to get much more attention than you would in the states. Japan has its share of muscle heads, although not nearly as many as the U.S. And while I'm sure you'll get some comments from Japanese girls, trust me, you're not going to have Yakuza picking fights with you on the street becuase you look big. But if you're even moderately built, someone will eventually say something. Even the fat guy who lives across the hall gets comments like, "Ohhhhh, gotsui. Sugoi!!!!!!" (He's 220 pounds and never works out.)
As far as gyms go, I know there are several Gold's Gym in Tokyo that are well-equiped. Be warned that membership there is NOT cheap. Try checking the link below to see if there are any gyms in your area. Personally, I recommend just asking around. It took me a long time to find a decent, no-frills gym in Osaka, but it was worth it. The gym I currently work out at, Flex 1, was recommended to me by my boxing coach.

Body builders don't ever fascinate me....but slightly muscular men, they do make me drool.
If you know of a Japanese actor named Kane Kosugi, he's got "da bestest body" here, mmmmmm.....hehehe
Please take a look at the promotion video on his site...He's sooooooo kakkoii!!!!!

By the way, this is only MY opinon(or should I say "taste"?), so there should be some Japanese girls who like body builders or really skinny boys.
