I would like to hear everyone's answers for this. Personally mine are:

Likes:
1. The courteous nature of Japanese--you can bump into most people and they don't yell at you.
2. the food
3. Japanese girl's quest for kawaii.
4. Some television shows
5. Hanami
6. The thousands of ramen restaurants

Dislikes
1. Some girls try a little too hard to be kawaii
2. Some television shows
3. Corrupt politicians
4. The not-so courteous older japanese ladies who push me out of the way on trains

Well, corrupt politicians...I'd say, come to Belgium ! Or look at America. No wait, just go to any country :) Btw, there are numerous threads like this ;-) USE THE SEARCH BUTTON, THE SEARCH....*echoes*

Well a big welcome to you anyway and hope you enjoy yourself here.

As RockLee mentioned, the search function is extremely helpful in finding something you'd like to post about. And even if it's an old thread, answer anyway if it interests you, as it will revive the thread and will probably bring responses from people who have never seen it before.

Good threads sometimes get pushed to the back pages and become forgotten about after the regulars have all chimed in. They remain there until somebody new, like yourself, finds them and gives their reply.

Nice sentiments Orionvertex. I would be with you on most of them. But after a while you may notice the first one growing into a more curious beast:

Those were great! I have the whole series stored away somewhere.

Interestingly, the main character (Obata Maruko) was only 35 years old.

Interestingly, the main character (Obata Maruko) was only 35 years old.I think so too. :) I'd like to go back and get all the old back issues of Mangajin, which collect the Obatarian manga (not the least of which because they give you extensive cultural translations and idomatic explanations etc... much better than anyone since), as well as a lot of other 'older' manga, like Don't Cry Tanaka Kun, Crayon Shinchan, and one of my favourites, What's Michael, (favourite also, because it shares my name---).

I know you can get the back issues of Mangajin (ed: from ebay on ocassion), but I think I'd have to go to a place like Boof Off, or one of the used book stores in Japan to get the manga classics.

There are many things I like about this group of islands lining the western side of the Pacific Ring of Fire, and some things I don't like--to list them all would take a lot of time, so I may just do so from time to time. . . maybe.

I like the enkai partying style. I don't like the lack in helping elementary school kids (at school and often at home too) develop critical thinking habits.

I like the feeling in the air in these rual Japanese hillsides where I live. I don't like inefficient garbage collection schemes that some feel they are obligated to carry out. (when they really have a choice to do otherwise.)

The one and only thing I dislike about Japan/Japanese people is:

When someone says "Kawaisou..." directed at me.

It's like saying, "Poor guy," like sometimes I'll wait outside of certain clothing boutiques because I personally feel I'm too gangsta sometimes, and I swear like when I wait outside people will walk past, see me waiting and say "Kawaisou...."

Why do I DISLIKE that? because I'M IN JAPAN, HOW COULD YOU FEEL SORRY FOR ME? It's like, hello, I'm in this great place where all the girls want to buy me whatever I want and YOU FEEL SORRY FOR ME?! (excuse my use of caps,) but hearing that really offends me. I do not mind waiting five minutes outside of a boutique that I don't feel like going into with whichever girl I'm seeing at the time.

That's about it, I love everything else.
