hi all,, i'd like to discuss about japanese loan words,, it called "gairaigo" in Japanese. What i want to discuss is japanese loan words that Japanese young people regularly use those words in their everyday conversations..

Okay, having a sexual intercourse in your car is カーセ　(ka a se), which is a short term of カーセックス(car sex).


ノープロ　is definitely is a loan word which means "no problem".
You've gotta pronounce it like noopuro with a strong Japanese accent though.

I think you'll find that Japanese slang wont have much use for you in daily conversation... that is, most people wont know what you are saying when you use it, as it is either rather regional, short-lived, specific to a certain subgroup of people, or out-right rude, like the term DQN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DQN)... etc etc... Ok, let me. But first off, I have to tell you this:
Don't just use those expressions except when you
are on 2ch or related boards such as wakaba.
If you use them on other message systems
available in Japanese, you will come across as very bad.
I myself wouldn't use DQN[...]...that said... I think these words will be of only minimal use to you.

...I'd like to point out also, that I foccused more on slang, instead of actual loan words, as simply I think that slang overall is a broader scope, and that if a word is actually a loan word or not is not something that the Japanese conciously think of. To them, they are simply 'words'.

I feel that's how commuication works.

actually, i just want to know about these words,, i'm studying Japanese culture in my univ, and i want to write about Japanese loan words. but i only know a little about new Japanese loan words which are Japanese young people use in their daily conversation.. so maybe i won't use it anyway when i talk in Japanese,, i don't even understand how or when i should use them when i talk to Japanese people..:p

Here's some more!:-)

グロい (gu ro i) = gross, grotesque
グロ(guro) is from the English word gross. By adding い(i), they've made the word look really like a Japanese adjective.

ギャル男(gyaru o) = a guy who acts or looks like a gal
ギャル(garu) is originally an English word "gal"
The kanji 男 shouldn't be pronounced "otoko", but just "o", just like in Japanese male names 良男(yoshio), 昭男(akio), or 敏男(toshio).

めっちゃ (meccha) = mega / very / extreme, from めちゃくちゃ (mecha-kucha) 目茶苦茶(P); 滅茶苦茶 【めちゃくちゃ】 (adj-na,n)

umm,, i already set the encoding setting to Japanese (Shift-JIS),, and also ISO-2022-JP and EUC-JP,, but it didn't change anything..:bawling:

The version of Windows will affect the way Japanese is displayed. The way I do it is right-click on a web page and select Encoding > Japanese auto-select. (Shift-JIS works too.) Is this what you did?

ah yes.. at first i used firefox browser,, i set the encode setting from Tools, then options.. but it still didn't work..:blush: but when you said it, i tried again this time with windows explorer,, and it worked! :p thanks a lot.. you're a big help!:bravo:
