I think your first problem is that there aren't many Japanese (jap is a derrogatory term) women aged 18 to 28 who are all that interested in anime in the first place, and there are probably much much less who are looking for a penpal, and even fewer who want to do so in English.
Keep on trying, though! Just remember that it's kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Well the jap comment was just a short term for Japanese http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif I dunno if i insulted anyone, but multiple country's have short namings UK USA NED BEL ,it actually custom here to make long country names shorter so it wasn't to insult ok?
Anyway i feel like im being ignored, well not really that, its just over the days i tried so hard to get a japanese penpall. Not that i am desperate or anything, i just happend to have time, and wanted to enjoy to meet a nice chat friend for anime from Japan, was that too much asked? http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/hsugh.gif i had to sign up for God knows how many penpall sites, i waited then(i discovered on my own) that hotmail didn't support the feature , which means i did all those efforts for nothing, others wanted to pay bla bla bla 3 days further and still no one to talk to. =\
Im glad at least that a japanese person replied tho http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/wavey.gif if it went on any longer i would have thought Japan would have sunk to the bottom of the sea like Atlantis =O

Welcome to the forum Darketernal san. From all the way over here, in these slopes that lead up to the majestic Japan Alps, I extend my greetings, my wishes for good luck, and my earnest recommendation that you not give up, take nothing for granted, and keep a smile in your heart--it will give you good mileage !
I am not Japanese, nor female, but I'm here to chat with you if you ever wish. (Oh, and I'm not into anime really either, sorry) Hope to hear from you later. Please do enjoy the whole forum and check it all out !! MM

However, the particular abbreviation "Jap" happens to be a derogatory term. We don't think insulting anyone was your intention, but you should keep it in mind for the future. Anyway, Japan is usually JPN now. Plus, if referring to a person, you would not say something like, "I wanna meet a UK," would you?

I don't know who you want to talk to.
But you should keep in mind that...
Probably Japanese watch more anime/manga than people in other countries, but it does not mean that all Japan or Japanese women are anime/manga friendly people.
If you just want to practice in your Japanese with Japanese women, your choices would be more if you don't tell you are interested in the anime stuff.

Well you could say , i want to meet someone from the UK? http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif Honestly its not that strange.

The thing is, the word "Japanese" refers to both nationality and ethnicity.
And historically, the abbreviated form "Jap" has been widely used with derogatory intent. I can understand how see it as a harmless convenient abbreviation. Unfortunately, the way previous generations used it have tainted it and it's use is still considered unacceptable.

You said you wanted to meet "a jap," not a "person from jap," you see what I mean?

And, in case you were considering it, using "Nip" for shortening "Nippon" is not good either.

I love how this is turning into a political thread of the ethnical correctness of using the abbreviation Jap, goto the website www.jap.com and complain there about the ethics of this in your eyes deragotory abbreviation since they are promoting it. Even if you type 'jap' on google you will get countless of japanese images and comments about which anyone never complained anything. I don't believe anyone in here has lived long enough to experience ww2 in which 'japs' was made towards a reference to them in an insulting way, so to say that you are insulted by the reference of Jap is outright rediculous, you simply have not lived long enough to be insulted in such a way, besides even in ww2 it was merely a reference to japanese people rather then an insult? So what is your problem? And quite frankly all the bikering by stumbling over 'such' a minor detain in my post isn't helping me getting more japanese friends rather getting me closer to starting a ww3 -_-
So please just 'drop' the jap thing, its the same like saying 45 y /m / ned
its just internet slang for Gods sake.

I agree, stay ontopic please. It's already clear the OP did not intended to use "jap" as a derogatory term.

I think everyone realizes the OP had no ill intent.
I just hope the OP realizes that everyone realizes he had no ill intent.

I know that personally I don't use "Jap" and never do because to me as an American, reminds me of the slang used during WWII and beyond however to my Japanese friends, family and co-workers (all first generation Japanese and not Nissei, etc..), "Jap" means essentially nothing to them. This is the same as calling a foreigner "Keito" (a WWII slang used for gaijin).... Oh and that's another one... "gaijin" in Japan. That term can be good or bad. What does everyone think of "Gaijin"... or how do you feel when called Gaijin...????
Minor correction: it's ketou (毛唐). I think it's a lot older than WWII era, too.
As for gaijin, it's been discussed a lot already here, and it would be better to start your own thread about it than discuss it here.

Ummm... can only suggest you place an ad with a photo... write a profile about your interests but don't make too much about anime or girls would think you're otaku... just try as many places as possible...
Worldfriends (http://www.worldfriends.tv/) seems to have quite a number of Japanese people, you might have some luck there. ^^
On this message board, there are not really many Japanese people, it's mostly non-Japanese, and I think most message boards about Japan would be the same. You might have more luck on anime message boards, I don't know but I would guess there are some female anime fans! :p

Lots of girls do like anime, but in a more restrained sense, not in a, I want to talk about it on MSN messenger sense... I mean, I know the women I've known have been fond of Doraemon, Anpanman from their childhoods, from certain anime on television, Tensai Bakabon, & who doesn't like Spirited Away? & I certainly don't know a girl who doesn't find Jagaimo-kun adorable...
...what's more, most women I've met had sizeable manga collections, none of them however considered themselves to be 'otaku', and found that word abhorent.
There is a time hopefully early, maybe later, when you realise that by and large, despite what seems like the contrary, every day normal Japanese folk do not like to be considered as the type of people who obsess over anime, pornography, and certain manga....
Usually, you meet someone through some sort of mutual attraction, or interests, you get to know them, what foods they like, what music they like, sometimes the music they don't like they grow fond of simply by you making them listen to it (cough), then you find that every time you go to the used book store together they can't stop buying volume after volume of their favourite manga... that's how it works.
Hmmm this is strange, I never have problem getting a pen friend in the past.
I am wondering do you study Japanese. It is easier to get Japanese pen friend if you are studying Japanese.
