Is anyone here interested in this time period? Who do you like? If you were there, what side would you have supported?
Yoshida Shoin (my namesake) and all the Sonjuku students were pretty dope. Most either died or ended up as top figures in the Meiji government.

I like Katsu Kaishu and Yamaoka Teshu, esp., the latter one, who saved the Edo city, Tokyo, from unnecessary battle.

Pipo-kun - Katsu Kaishu was one of Shoin's students. He got his education in revolution from Shoin. Master politician.

Senseiman - Saigo is very cool too. Did you read the Last Samurai (no relation to the movie)? It's a good book about him. He was a legend in his own time and ultimately ended up fighting the government he created. His lifelong friend Obubo Toshimichi basically killed him.

Hiroyuki,

Matsudaira was one of the 3 great minds of that era, right? He helped to get Ryoma off the wanted list. Ryoma was great because he was able to work with both sides (bakufu and emperor).
