Apparenly James Cameron is working on a live action Battle Angel
movie, known as Gunnm in Japan.
I first read this in a free Animerica magazine/add booklet,
then saw this again recently.
According to IMDB movie site the main character
"will be done with CG animation and will be shot in 3D"

Personally this is one of my all time favorite Animes.
I wish they would have made more than just two 25 minute
episodes.
One place, I don't remember where, theorized that more were
not made because its "gothic" look was thought not cute enough
and sales slump because of it.
I know the original manga is available in an English version in the States.
(Which I refuse to buy because I want to become literate in Japanese some
day. yah. Good luck, I know. Also this might sound kind of stuck-up, but
it seems to me it looses some of its 'arty-ness' with the US versions. ?
Maybe it's japanese the written word? )
I cannot say whether the new manga stories are available state-side
or not in English.
One last thing, according to Jefflash on another post James Cameron
was the one who created a short-lived FOX TV series called "Dark Angel".
Although I never saw an episode, memory of the commercials make me
wonder if that show wasn't GUNNM/Battle Angel Alita inspired.
