Vicki-san!

Give us an English sentence, and we will give you the Japanese translation. Better yet, you try to translate it first, and we will correct your mistakes.

remember, it's a subject-object-verb construction, and particles are used to show what is the subject and what is the object (or location, or destination, etc).

Give it a shot and we'll help you out

Pedagogically structured textbooks are wonderful things.

Mike makes an extcellent point; as we all know, we might not be able to trust those shady "complete guides" we see on the internets.

Yup. ^^ Certainly you should get a good textbook such as Genki - that will probably help you.

That guide was complete with all the curse words you could ever want. :okashii:

hi Vicki! Well, you might get some more after i teach some of what i know in camp...but just give us a sentence, a simple one, and either look up, or ask me for the words from ym dictionary, and try to make it with the right words and particles. since u dont know past tence yet, try to do a present time sentence. (trty to make it with a verb, not a linking one like "is") uhhh...and then ppl, or I, will try to fix it if its wrong andd explain your mistakes!

Well, how to make a sentence, like any language, depends on what you want to say in your sentence. :souka: See Nice Gaijin's post, "subject-object-verb" construction; the verb comes at the end. (Assuming it's a simple sentence that needs only one verb!) :relief:

And, like Tomii said, it's best to start off with the present tense.
But if you get a text book, that will show you! :relief:

Google it. You'll be amazed...

In fact, here, I'll save you the trouble:

hmmm...ok, for sentence order:

The sentence order in English is SVO: Subject Verb Object. For example:

I went toward Tokyo.

I = subject
went = verb
Tokyo = object

Toward is just a filler word i guess...but when you put toward, you use the particle "e"
---
In japanese, the sentence order is SOV: Subject Object Verb. For example:

watashi wa toukyou e ikimashita./私は東京へ行きました。

私, watashi = I, subject
は,wa (written as "ha")= topic particle
東京, toukyou = Tokyo, object
へ, e ( written as "he")= "toward" particle
行きました, ikimashita = went, verb
---
Do you get how the sentence oder is now? If not, ask someone else to try to give a better example...
-------------------
for particles, go here:

http://www.timwerx.net/language/particles.htm

i dont get the sentence order there, but it VERY good for the particles!!!

I found you to be a pretty obnoxious little kid that thought he knew what he was talking about but really didn't. Posts from me attempting to be helpful were met with an impetuous foot-stamping demand to not reply to your posts anymore....a request I have honored up until this one. Couldn't resist the urge to answer your question.

Hmm, it might get boring, but imo, right after you've checked out a "japanese guide" and looked into a real textbook, you will feel the need to order something from amazon lol.
We can't teach you. We can answer your questions, help you out, correct your mistakes. But we cannot list all the particles, the archaic ones, their meanings, context they're used in lol. What do you think, why people write books about Japanese? Go support them with some money, buy a few. If you won't, that will clearly mean that your dedication is rather weak, and so you needn't bother with particles at all, neither with Japanese.
But, don't worry, if you truly want to learn the language, just go check amazon with keywords such as Japanese (who would think lol?).

Mike Cash:

I can see that now... Wow, now I feel stupid. :( I just thought you were mean haha. But now I realize want you were attempting to deal with, and I would've done the same thing you did O_O

Derfel:

The thread was posted like a year ago or something, and Vicki, at the time, was my girlfriend. She's not even learning Japanese anymore, and she never really attempted so... :blush:

If all the people on the internet who think I'm mean were ever to get together they'd have to rent Yankee Stadium. Don't sweat it; I'm used to it.

Haha, alright. It's probably because since you're so smart you come off a little obnoxious and ... damn I just forgot what I was gunna say... Ummm... :okashii: maybe people are just jealous that you're smarter then they are and then they get mad? I don't know. If I remember what I was gunna say I'll post it ^^ :relief:
