Kansai Gaidai University...HELP!

Hey everyone, :relief:

this is my first time posting here so I just want to say Hello! Also, I had some questions for everyone about Kansai Gaidai University!!

1) When I graduate from high school can I immediatly apply to this University and thereafter attend? Or do I have to go to college in USA for a amount of time?

2)If you already have a home in Osaka, will they allow you to stay with that family?

3) What is some of the academics they offer?

4) is it hard to get into KGU?

5) Does the credits earned their transfer to American University?

I really want to plan this all out and have it set in stone as much as possible. i am currently starting to save money, I speak Japanese very well (and I am about to start taking college courses) So all the info, advice, comments etc is greatly appreciated!! THANKS!:cool:

As far as transferring back to the US, from what I hear unless you're going on an exchange program with a school in the US transferring credits will be a major hassle. I've also heard that Japanese colleges are treated somewhat like unaccredited schools in the US. If anyone has any information to contradict that, please let me (and the OP) know.

Click "Asian Studies Program" at the bottom of the page for more information, or contact the admissions office of the CIE (Center for International Education) directly. KGU has over 200 affiliated universities abroad, and assuming you follow the prescribed curriculum, any credit you take here will apply toward your academic program there.

You need to apply and be accepted to a school in the US and enter an exchange program. If you want to enroll as a student in the regular courses (i.e. not CIE, but Japanese-student courses) I'd wonder why, since the curriculum revolves around studying "foreign" (i.e. not Japanese) languages such as English.

Of course.

3) What is some of the academics they offer?

Again, look at the website. It's vast. But you should keep in mind the distinction between taking courses as a foreigns student (and I assume you're not Japanese since you mention you can speak it well, which would be a given if you were a native Japanese) and taking the regular courses.

The CIE is meant for 2nd-3rd year university students. Instruction is in English. You study marketing, Asian history, literature and arts, Japanese film, and various other topics. It's usually a one semester to one year program, depending on what you qualify for.

4) is it hard to get into KGU?

As a ryugakusei, it depends on your own university. There are no foreign students enrolled in the regular program, though there are some Japanese student "returnees" from abroad who have lived overseas and who have good English, and who, in some ways, are wasting their time at a "foreign language university" when they are already fluent.

5) Does the credits earned their transfer to American University?

Yes, if you're enrolled through your own institution in the exchange program.

In the end, I'm not an administrator here, so you should direct these questions to the actual staff, via email. Look at the website to find that info.

It sounds to me like you need to enroll and be accepted in a university there first, then perhaps transfer later. Why the great interest in KGU?
