Ok, as the title implies, I'll be asking questions regarding the entire plot. That means, if you haven't seen the anime, don't read any further, because there are obviously going to be major spoilers. Then again, if you are one of those people that doesn't mind getting anime spoiled, and then watches anime despite knowing how it ends, suit yourself.
I just finished watching 3x3 Eyes. I'm puzzled. I watch a lot of anime, and I have seen overly complicated anime with intricate plots, but for some reason I couldn't understand the ending of 3x3 Eyes. Or maybe I did, but I'm not sure.
We have four main characters in the plot. Two demons, and two wu. First demon is Pai, whom sealed the other one, Kaiyanwang. Then there's Fujii, and there's Benares.
Pai and the Benares fight. Pai decides to go suicide-bomber, and almost obliverates him. Somehow Benares survives and calls up upon his servant, a snake by the name of Howasho, and transforms him into a small triangle, which he places on Pai's forehead to seal her memory.
Now, this here puzzled me a bit. Why didn't he just killed her? Wasn't his objetive to release Kaiyanwang whom had been sealed by Pai? Why did he keep Pai alive? Could it have to do with Pai being the only one able to release Kaiyanwang?
Then I got even more confused when the plot ended. According to Benares, the technique he used to seal Pai's memory in fact was supposed to replace her personality, by that of Howasho's. However, he does explain that didn't work out too well because Pai already had a split personality (which I will henceforth refer as "silly Pai" and "demon Pai").
On the last episode Benares gives Pai two choices:
1) "follow my word and go back living as a human";
2) "unseal Sanjiyan complete, and fight against me and Kaiyanwang"
If he came that far, why would he suggest Pai to go back living as a human? What's in it for him if she chose that one?
Also, the second choice had a trick. Pai would become the snake, Howasho. Why is this? If she chose the second option, why would Pai have to release and fight Kaiyanwang?
Pai chooses the second option, and for some reason obliverates Benares. I found this strange, since on their first encounter, he kicked her ***. I can live with that, though, for the sake of drama, but maybe there's something I'm misunderstanding.
My last question is the very, very ending. As far as I understood, silly Pai's personality was transfered into a new body, and she became a normal school girl. Demon Pai retained her original body. What happened to Fujii? Why does he, at the end, pass her by and just smile without as much as telling her a word?
I'm sorry, I understand I'm asking a lot of questions, but the anime really confused me, and I would appreciate anyone who can clear this up for me.
