Hi guys, Ive been living in Japan for a couple of years in a mid-size city and am looking to move to a big city ie a city of at least 1 million people. Im concerned about the cost of living esp rent so Ive ruled out the Osaka area(Kyoto/Kobe) and Tokyo. I believe that leaves Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Yokohama, Sendai and Sapporo.
Which of these cities is the cheapest to live in. Thanks in advance for any replies

Fukuoka is half price of Tokyo.
A good point of Fukuoka.
An airport is near to a center of a city.
When I use an international airline, convenience is good to use Korea, Taiwan, Kansai Airport.
A city highway,The Sinkansen,An express bus,
Traffic to Kyushu and nearby prefectures is convenient.
The food expenses are low cost.

I guess relatively speaking compared to my hometown (Melbourne), Fukuoka would still have alot lower crime rate! Thanks for the info!

Well, I live in Aichi, which is number 3 on the list, and I've never had any problems in the way of crime. Fukuoka probably won't be a problem either.
Personally I like Fukuoka quite a bit. The only problem with Fukuoka that I can really think of is that it's far away from Kansai and Kanto. But honestly, how often do you have to make the trip anyway?
A related issue is traveling on vacation. Kyusyu has a wealth of places to visit and things to experience, but if you're into history, there's no place like Kinki.
Still. overall, I think Fukuoka is a great place to live!
