Documentary Premiere Sparks Protest on Abduction by Japanese of American
Children

WHAT: A protest to highlight Japanfs denial of
parental rights to American parents of
children with dual Japanese/American citizenship abducted from the U.S. by
Japanese partners against U.S. court orders.

The protest coincides with the U.S. premier of Abduction: The Megumi Yokota
Story, a documentary about the abduction by North Korea of a 13-year-old
Japanese girl and Japanfs outrage over child abduction.

WHEN: Friday, August 18th, 2006
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(Movie premieres at 1:45 p.m.; finishes at 4 p.m.)

WHERE: ArcLight Theatres (in front of Cinerama Dome)
6360 W Sunset Blvd. (at Ivar, 2 blocks west of Vine)
Parking available in lot off Ivar

WHO:
˜ Parents of children abducted by Japanese and whose legally defined
parental rights have been denied by Japan courts
˜ Children who have never met their siblings because of Japanfs denial
of parental rights
˜ Those who question Japanfs moral integrity, as that countryfs
government chooses to ignore international family law unless it is to their
advantage.

WHY: American spouses/partners of
Japanese nationals with whom they had children but
subsequently parted have had their children abducted from the U.S. and taken
to Japan against existing U.S. court orders.

Japanfs consistent refusal to honor foreign custody rulings and extradition
warrants from the FBI, Interpol and local authorities.

Thanks for the info. It's a wonder that President Bush met Mr./Ms. Yokota.

Hi there Pipokun...
Do I think they are they same? Well Yes, and No.
No, our children were not abducted by a country. Or were they?
My daughter was abducted by her Japanese Mother. She was supported by the laws of a country in doing this, so the answer must be that Japan assisted in her abduction. This goes for the thousands of children abducted TO japan by Japanese parents.
Throughout the world parental abduction is considered ABDUCTION. Parental Abduction is illegal, and Japan is the only G7 nation (first world nation) that allows it. The government of Japan then supports the parent which in my view makes both the Megumi Yokota abduction, and all of the abductions listed on http://www.crnjapan.com too similar.
So yes, I think abduction is abduction...and the cases create the same pain and sorrow in the affected parents.
I cry everyday for my little girl who was abducted to Japan.

ekalmus,
I sympatize with you on your personal situation.
But, speaking of North Korea's abduction,
Among abductees by North Korea, Yokota Megumi was
exceptionally young who was 13 yrs old at her disappearance.
Next youngest was Hitomi Soga who was 19 yrs old and later married to a US army deserter.
So, The nature of North Korea's abduction is not really 'parental abduction' nor 'child abduction'.
It's rather similar that US abducted Iraqis to Guantanamo Bay.
(,though I don't like this analogy myself and I don't want to call US 'hypocrite'.)
If crnjapan keep trying to hijack the issue, your conviction on 'parental abduction' will not be supported.
