I was wondering if anyone has ever used the takkyubin airport->apartment service. I will be coming to Japan in a few weeks, but before I get to my new apartment in Shizuoka I would like to visit where I last lived in Ibaraki. I wanted to send my luggage ahead of me (someone will be there to accept it, so that's no problem).
I was pretty much wondering about size and weight. Coming from America I am allowed to carry 70lbs (32kg) but the largest weight I have found on the Kuro Neko website for the airport service is 55lbs (25kg). Of course...my kanji skills are not as good as they used to be, and maybe I'm missing something entirely. :p so what happens if my bag is too big? is it just an extra fee or will they not take it? also - the calculation I did on the website looks like it would be ~2500yen from Narita to Shizuoka. I hope I read that right, although it seems that most Japan guide books have quoted a similar price.
Also - are takkyubin papers easy to fill out? i have sent a million things from Japan and those forms were easy, but I've never filled out a takkyubin form.
Pretty much any advice/help anyone can give would be most appreciated!:relief:

I use the Takkyubin every time I arrive at Narita and never had any problem regarding weight--the fact is I never brought a lot home...:relief:

Still, I think there is no limit to the weight of your luggage, so long as you're using conventional luggage items such as suitcases and bags. The weight limit you're talking about is per item and not total weight. Also, if you have extraordinarly large luggage, they just apply special service charges. Your stuff won't get stuck at the airport.

Also, the people at the Narita takkyubin service are very experienced dealing with people of all countries. I'm pretty sure they have forms written in Japanese and English or else will teach you how to write it. Romaji is OK.
You don't even have to choose Kuroneko. There are other equally reliable courier services (such as ABC) that offer cheaper prices. You can also ask to have delivery made at a designated date, if you don't want it delivered the next day.

HTH!

I'm not sure about the weight, but my lady friend has sent luggage from Narita to Kanagawa, and she paid more in the 5000 yen range. Shizuoka is even farther from the airport, I doubt that price is right.

Thank you both for your help! I think I will definitely use the takkyubin service and save myself a lot of difficulty (like I had last time I came...ugh...I hate travel in the summer).

Regarding price...this is what I was looking at on the ABC website last night: http://www.abc-sky.co.jp/kuko/k1_1.html#nrt, and it seems to be a little below the kuro neko range. i expect it would be a bit more since my luggage would be heavier, of course. i can't believe they only offer the service up to 25kg on their site when Japanese airlines offer to carry up to 32kg per piece of luggage. so annoying!

i can't believe spending over 5000yen to send anything in Japan. everything i've ever sent has been so cheap! maybe it was express delivery or something?

edit: i just found this link on the ABC site now...it looks like it would be about 2500yen for a bag 21~40kg http://www.abc-sky.co.jp/kuko/k9.html. is this what i'm looking for? can anyone aid with reading this website please? thanks!!

Yes, that's the range for luggage to be sent to Shizuoka. If a piece weighs 20kg or less, it's 1700 yen each.
