Hi all,

I've been racking my brains to remember the formalities of the start/end of a Japanese lesson.

I remember them all standing up, us bowing to each other, but was there some special japanese word that was called out. I really can't remember, but if someone could remind me of the routine.

Thanks.

I think it's :
起立(kiritsu) - Stand up
礼(rei) - Bow
着席(chakuseki) - Sit downWow, I just noticed how much I miss those school days....:(

It couldn't have been that long ago.

that's great thanks,

I used to stop them doing that day 1!

But now I'm in the UK I wanted to teach some kids here what goes on.

Sooo...

Did one of the pupils shout out kiritsu at the start to make them all stand up?

Who says the other commands.

Thanks so much.

I only have vague memory of this classroom routine from my 4th grade year at the private school I attended,me and class-mates would say aloud stand up as our teacher entered the room and waited for our teacher's permission to sit down.

Wait,we kids probably did bowed to our teacher as he or she stood facing us.

Yes.

It depends on the class. Sometimes, the class president(学級委員 - gakkyuu iin or 室長 - shitsuchou) of the semester does. Other times, all the student in the class do in turn, and the person is called 日直 - nicchoku.

Oh, and all these three commands are said by the same person.
