That's a fairly broad question. If you're talking about musically, I personally don't think you can say one is better than the other...they're both awesome in their own right. I can't speak for everyone else, but I like both equally musically -- I just prefer Miyavi over Gackt in general.

My thoughts on Yameteyo Shite Sawaranaide:
I love how Miyavi has several songs from the view point of a female... I'm completely amazed by this XD Not to say it doesn't happen, look at Tsunku (head guy of Hello! Project)! He writes most of the music and lyrics for Hello! Project and because it's a group of only girls he has to write things from a girl's perspective. Still, I think of Tsunku as some weird alien not a normal human being (haha, horrible I know but if you know H!P you'd understand XD).

Granted I know nothing of the Japanese culture when it comes to society's view on intelligence. However, the first thing that pops into my mind is "I know I'm stupid, I get it... So why do you bother with me?" A person interally struggling. To me, that idea changes the song from sounding frustrated to being devasted.

I'm skipping around a little here...

That verse alone brings up SO MANY QUESTIONS. Is it a sequence? Someone making this girl feel dirty, hate, "bibbidy bobbity boo" events happen, now she's violated. Who is this man? Did they know eachother?
Thinking about the "stupid" comment... She could have been luring the guy on. Maybe she was a prostitute and now this is the result of it. It could've been a stepfather. That makes me think of "Lolita" and how the little girl was seducing her stepfather. I don't know... that one part makes me sit here and go "Hmmm... o.o" and stare for hours XD Kind of like I'm doing now SO MOVING ON.

Two things to mention. One... I love that. So much. Just from going to the sky crying to her crying... beautiful. The month difference confuses me, how it went from May to June. Another reason I think of this song being sequential. She left in May... maybe to go find herself... she was raped... then in June she's saying goodbye again... I do question that second goodbye, is it possibly a suicide? The translater's note on "satsukibare" annoys me too. "Clear weather during May" but the lyrics clearly stated "June"... I assume she said May because "satsuki" translates to the "fifth month in the lunar calendar" but looking it up it says "early-summer fine weather (during rainy season)" I highly doubt that sits strictly to May.. e.e
Okay I'll stop ranting...

I love picking apart Miyavi's lyrics because there's so much to them... but they can be so frustrating because they make you go in circles!!
Well that was fun (not) and I'd love to hear other's views on this or any Miyavi lyric for that matter. I love this stuff... it makes me stupidly giddy =B

All I remember about what people said... Oresama is about Miyavi (obviously). He's not playing some random role, it's himself. Somehow or another he ends up going back in time (how many years I have NO idea). It shows a little boy playing soccer (football, fussball, whatever) and breaking his leg, as he did as a boy. Now when it comes to why he went back in time and what he accomplished during that time... I have no clue XD;
I guess I should actually watch the movie...

Now then the old lady pops up and he is like 'grand ma(i think)' and finds out that it is the boys grandma(i unno) as well. So then he realises it is actually HIS ten year old self.
Now the thing is...
Miyavi has too chose between saving himself from breaking his leg and becoming a great footbal player, or going back to the present time cause a big live is comming up.

What I understood of the movie, is that Miyavi is bored by his life And then he felt asleep and go back on time. He's very surpised cause poeple don't know him, and students are not crazy of him, some of them said that he's kind of scary... But he didn't deaslike that. When he realise when he is, he try to go see his mother, but run away. after, he met the rocker, get friend with him, and be a part of the band of this rocker (soory I could not remember his name). Then there is the part with him young, he realized that his grandma is the grandma of the little boy, understand it's him when he was young, and thought he will broke his leg in almost tree days. At the concert they did, myv find it great to prepare his friend. Be very surpridsed by the public... And when they go crazy of myv and the rocker, myv have his love for his job going back, now he's happy, he want to go back doing concerts. He says good bye to the little him without telling him, left a letter for the friends and go. (sorry I didn't understand so much what he said in the letter) They go running to catch him, and they're all sad because they will ever not see each other, but understand and let him go....

The storyline to Oresama is actully really disapointing hmmm who wrote it

Coz it sounds like a kids movie there is very very little substence in it at all not really worthy of Meevs

When you consider the depth of his lyrics i would have exspected a somewhat more um artistic outing for his first movie

That's overrating it though, no? Sure Miyavi has some amazing lyrics... but it's not like he was the one writing the script! Unfortunately that's probably something he had no control over. They probably just wanted something else to boost his popularity even more (no wonder he took on an egotistical persona, man) so... why not make a short little movie? Personally from the clips I've seen, Miyavi's acting wasn't exactly the best either. He seemed to be trying too hard to not come off as acting, which only led to him coming off as overacting. I never saw the movie as a huge to-do, honestly. It was a simply side project and trying to view it bigger than that... is pointless =\

Aho means fool and matsuri means festival, so yes Aho Matsuri is Fool Festival.
It's also from the Miyavizm album. I guess they had a little thing on the DVD teaching you the dance so that the audience could do it during concerts. Interaction between stage and audience... it's a lovely thing.

There's also a "Dance Lesson" for his Senor Senora Senorita song. Personally, I think that one is by far more hilarious.

I got my friend to decipher some of it -- he got a bit out of it because he said they're speaking too fast for him and they're laughing a lot:
At the beginning its something like: "wow, you're having fun, aren't you?"
And at one point they joke about having sex with one another. Well -- obviously -- Miyavi says that part.

Ok... so basically, it's just getting the bands we (the fans) want to play at the cons we want. I know not everyone is in the same location, but I do have an idea on that problem. I'll get to it a little later. Here's how it works: Pick the band/artist (Miyavi in this case), and then the con ( ???? ) and then the hard work. Everyone who wants to be involved lets me know some sort of contact info (screen name, instant messenger, anything.. I don't ask for personal info) and I keep track of who all is involved. Then, we flood the band/artist's record label with requests for that band/artist to appear at the chosen con. I'll try and make sure when we start that there's not going to be a scheduling conflict. We'll not only be sending the requests to the record label, but also to the people who are over the chosen con. If both get enough requests, and we start with enough time, they'll give in to us. Obviously I know this is a lot of work. It will require everyone to be sending postal mail a very long way at least every other day. Also, as far as locale and finances. We're all going to have to save money, all involved. I suggest a savings account. Just keep putting money aside, however much. Then, when we get the word that all our hard work has paid off, we'll (hopefully) have the money to attend. Now, if some people are short on money (people that have been helping) we should also be able to help them. I think it would be pretty cold if we all worked really hard and a couple people were short some money and none of us said "hey, I can help." You know? On the flip side, anyone who has not helped in the process wouldn't be getting our help. See? It just kind of works out. None of us would be totally paying someone's way, unless you just want to. But, rather, we'd be showing that we (as fans) can band together and make sure that everyone who worked gets to see the rewards. I also know some of you may be restricted from going such a long way from home by things other than money.... parents, school, work, etc. But, we all make sacrifices. Parents can be sweet talked, and bribed. School can be missed and made up. Work... eh, request time off. It's not like we won't have enough time in advance to do so. We're going to know way ahead of time, so everyone should have time to get such problems squared away. Also, think of how awesome such a large gathering of fans would be. Think also of this, from the band/artist's perspective: they're at that place because of all those fan's hard work!! How awesome of an experience for someone? To know that your fans have the ability to band together like that, and all (or most) manage to be there. Besides, then we all also get to be in one place, at the same time. That has major fun potential. That many fans of one band/artist in one place, on purpose. Leaving it at that. Just think about it. I'm going to need minimal amounts of help. I'm not the only leader over this, my best friend is the other master mind. I know this is going to be work ya'll, but the great things in life are hell to get!!! I'm in the process of learning Japanese, anyone who wants to help, I thank you now. Anyone who maybe knows someone in Japan or how to contact certain people in that business... big help. Let's band together, show these Jrockers what their American fans are made of!! Let's show them that we are as good as or better than their Japanese fans!!

No, "Lee Ki Ah" is not Miyavi's real name. That's what his Korean name would be, seeing as his father's side of the family was originally from Korea.
I've heard what Miyavi's full real name is suppose to be, but I'm wary about it. It's just to similar to Toshiya's real name (from Dir en grey). Toshiya... a person Miyavi has said to look up to. Hm.
He's given out a false name before. Granted now for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Hi All. New to the Miyavi thread. Actually, new to Miyavi. I didn't know him as Miyabi. I discovered The Gazette a few months ago and now I'm finding other jrock bands I like. I started at the beginning and got tired of reading, so I skipped to the end and probably missed a whole bunch of stuff. Just to put in my 2 cents...

I don't think he's arrogant, I think he's confident... and a little crazy! And hey, if you've got it, flaunt it. He's on the covers of magazines because girls buy them to drool over the Miyavi-ness! Sexy sells. And I must say, the kid is adorable.

His antics are what got me to listen to him. I'm more of a metal head, but because he was a little nuts, I pursued an interest. He is an incredible guitarist. I've actually been inspired to buy one and start learning.

I hear a lot of people say he can't sing. I love his raspy voice! It's unique and on key, which is more than I can say for some other nameless singers! A true blues-y god , if you ask me.

Actually, yes. His vulgar is cute. Somehow, he can be screaming his fool head off and breaking stuff, and still be adorable. Part of his appeal, I think. Besides, all of his interviews that I've seen (translated, so who knows how accurate), make him look like a half decent person. In fact, more than half decent! Believe me, with all of the tattoos and stuff, that means something! Don't get me wrong, I'm heavily tattooed myself and reject the stereotype as often as possible, but in my experience, I'm not the norm. Too many people who I meet (or date, for that matter), who have lots of tats or embrace the metal head or goth or (insert label here) image, are jerks. I've noticed with many jrockers, that they can be punks and still be good people. That's a big reason why I like them. I'm tired of the posers we have around here!

Oh, and I remember seeing something somewhere about his no show in the States. It was due to something out of his control. Politics or some crap. Don't know any more than that, but I don't think he intentionally abandoned his American fans!

I mean, there are lots of different singers and bands in Japan so what is it about Miyavi that makes him the one that you like and fangirl about and not another one? He's also stated very clearly that he wants to tour in the U.S., so he knows he's wanted and he wants to please us. I don't like the idea of artists and bands coming to anime conventions. That just seems cheap to me. It is possible for them to do a show here on their own, I'm sure. I don't want Japanese artists continuely referenced back to a convention. I want them to stand out on their own.

Dude, I wish I knew what he was saying in the comment T^T! Though I wasn't paying very much attention to what he was saying. "He said he's back in Japan, and that 300 grams of tenderloin steak, two smoked salmon and something salads, 2 something asparagus, and 200 gram delicious hamburger, but he's not any fatter so no worries.
He said that he has something he wants to tell everyone, but not in a text, rather in a comment, in person, right there as he's tired, as he's wanting to tell everyone.

He said it's been four years since his old band broke up, and he debuted as a soloist in 2002. Being in a band was amazing, as it was said in magazines as well, but it didn't work out and he had to go solo. And now it's been four years, and it's all thanks to everyone. He said he's really feels that from his heart.
He said he thought that soccer and being in a band were over for him, but that next year, he's thinking of being in a band, playing guitar. He found an amazing guy (older than him), and he thought he'd like to try screaming in the background once again (laugh), so he hopes we look forward to it.

Thanks for sharing the news Jou Sama...I wonder who he'd be working with if he did join a band again. It could be interesting and I think maybe we'd get to see another side to Miyavi since playing in a band is probably different from playing solo and his style would have changed since when he was last in a band. I have to say that I'm glad he's gonna continue as a solo artist as well though since I really like him as he is now.

Ok, what a shock. I have no idea how to react to this. See...I love Miyavi on his own, but being in a band is what would make him happy. So, I have to be happy and smile. I'm happy he's figuring out what he wants, though. Hopefully, the next time we see Miyavi he would have regained the spark that he once had.

Like I said, I don't like Yoshiki. I can't see Miyavi and Yoshiki working together. Sure when you get down to it Miyavi's a business man, he has to be to come as far as he has. Still, personalities play a big part in bands and I can really see those two clashing.
I'm NO expert when it comes to Yoshiki, infact I'm far from it... but I'm usually really good when it comes to picking up personalities. If this band is real, I foresee many fights to come.

I don't know anything about Yoshiki... I think I'm going to hold off forming an opinion about this until Miyavi actually tells us the members of the band. He probably misses being in a band a lot. My best friend told me about the video of their (Due'le Quartz) last performance together, and he was all emotional. So, if he really wants to be back in a band, then I'm behind him. It might be hard for him to do solo and a band, but, if he's happy....

Yeah sure he met an OLDER man. Miyavi is still really young! He's only 25, it's VERY EASY for him to meet an older man.

Miyabi had been very upset when Due'le Quartz broke up. He was openly crying during their last performance. You can find the video on YouTube, it's so sad. =(

I love Miyavi... just as that. Miyavi, but I also realize that he was first and foremost a guitarist. Being in a band, to me, adds so much to a music experience. People like being able to interact with other people. All I can think about is that child like spunk from his Due'le Quartz days... and if that can come back with his new band... I just want the man to be happy again and if starting this band will do it, then so be it! (Just not with Yoshiki ><!!)

My only concern, just like everyone else, is the stress level. I'm sure at first it'll be really hectic, but who knows... maybe over time he'll find a good rhythm that will allow him to carefully manage both his solo and band careers with out too much stress.

You know...you two could be right. But, given that Yoshiki spoke to the members of X the same way he spoke to his worker, it's a possibility he would speak to anyone like that when it comes to his work. I'm not trying to scare you. :P

For all we know, Yoshiki might be the nicest person towards them. Because he knows at anytime they could just quit and continue their solo work and I don't think he wants that, considering he most likely doesn't want this to turn in to another stalled project like Violet UK. :/

So, I've been thinking and I'm 100% for this band thing. When you think about it, it'll probably be less stress on Meev because he now has a band to fall back on, so now he doesn't have to compose, produce, arrange, write and all that other mojo he did before. So, band ftw.

Miyavi does seem really excited though so I hope that if he does want to be in a band again that it all works out well:-) and that he's happy with the outcome...I do hope he can balance being a solo artist and part of a band though since that would mean more work and more pressure:souka: ...

They're kind of the "older" generation and to add a new lively soul like Miyavi? That's disrupting their flow. Did you know there's technically four versions of Itoshii Hito? There's the one on the Ashita, genki ni naare single, there's two on the Itoshii Hito (beta desuman) -2006- single (the actual single plus the dokusou), then there's the one on MYV Pops. The difference between the 2006 single and the Pops is the ending. The single slowly fades out but the album version has a definite ending to it (which I like better).

Aww, that sucks.

I reduced the size a bit for you...so its now 97.3kb. You can use it if you like -- but its 75x75 now. I removed some repetitive frames, changed the size, added a border and changed the font at the end [and instead of having 6 frames at the end I made it one frame for 2 secs].

You don't have to use it but yeah...I just figured.

To actually get good at the guitar, it took me like 2-3 years. A long time wow, I didn't really notice it was so long ago.
First song I learned was Greensleeves by fingerpicking it.
If you want a nice site for learning to play guitar with some basic beginner lessons go here www.wholenote.com, I still go there often.

Teaching yourself or getting a tutor really depends on you. I prefered teaching myself, I could overcome everything by myself, and not have to rely on someone to teach me something. But that's just me ^^"

I probably should have learned on a acoustic first, but que sera sera, I'll buy an acoustic when I get payed.

But, teaching yourself requires a lot of patience. If you aren't patient I would suggest getting a teacher or teach yourself the basics and get lessons from there.

MAL, I'm the same way. I don't want to take guitar lessons or have a tutor or WHATEVER. Once I get to more difficult things I might look for some advice. My friend and my brother-in-law both play guitar. Still, I want to at least figure out the basics on my own. I have two guitars that my grandfather had left behind. Actually I think my dad hid them when grandpa passed away so that his brothers or sister couldn't take them. XD; I've taken them in as my own since they're just sitting there not doing anything. They're gorgeous though, I love them.

you can say what you like about the picture, how you want him to take a picture, how you want to take a picture with him, which other picture is simular... bla bla bla.. you can write sooooo many things... why only write one sentence that already everyone knows about you... Oh I completely agree! There was a slight blow up a little while back about spamming... I guess we can't get away from it all ^^;

Lyrics...hmm. It's really difficult to choose. But...if you asked favourite song -- I'd say 'Dear My Friend' -- by far my favourite song. And the PV was awesome too.

Dani, of course Miyavi's good at writing poetry. He writes lyrics. Lyrics are poems. =)

I enjoy analyzing poems, and I've noticed his older works have more depth to them. I like those more. Things from Gagaku and Galyuu. Miyavizm and so on, plus his singles, are rather straight forward. Even though some of them can be marvelous (Kimi ni Negai wo), I think ones like Ippiki Ookami Ron are better. ^^

Good idea, Malys. = D This'll keep the Miyavi thread alive and on topic.

What I think Miyavi meant was that in the song, there was someone who has been lost. Someone that he loved and held close to him. When this person disappeared, thoughts of their time together would continue to linger in his head and in his heart, as he continues to live in that town. But, he continues to think of this person as a star, a star that watches over him and also a star he can continue to wish upon. Maybe as a way to give himself strength, so he can continue to live for both of them.

Yeah...I wish I could explain better. But, I suck at this whole emotions thing.

YAY! I'm glad you like my idea ^^

Kiminega to me... Obviously it's about a love. A lost love. I don't think it necessarily is a lover exactly, it could just be a loved one in general. It speaks of someone who he grew up with, someone he made dreams with. They were always there for eachother when things didn't work the way they'd planned.
"You became a star" I believe is a reference to death. *thinks back to Lion King* The exact words in Lion King were:
"Simba, let me tell you something my father told me. Look at the stars, the great kings of the past are up there, watching over us. So whenever you feel alone just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you and so will I."
This loved one has moved on and has become a star, and as such he "no longer needs God" (HE DOESN'T LOVE ME! XD) The person he loves is all he needs, and as long as he knows they're watching over him he knows he can accomplish anything.
I also get the feeling he's upset that the loved one's life was taken from them so quickly with out getting a chance to truly live. He makes a promise that he'll never forget this person, he can't forget this person, because they'll always be in his heart.

So touching. I could never write lyrics like that. I'm amazed at how well he can reach inside of his heart and pull out such expressful words.

well... my opinion about the song....
i think its like malys said.... its about someone he loved but died. became a star in the sky who watches over him.... i never thought of "star" as a celebrety.... because my mom always used to say when i was younger that when i missed my grandpa (who died) that i should look up at the sky (because i used to cry everynight about how much i miss him) at night... and the brightest star up there is my grandpa who looks down on me... so yeah... *snif* its a very touchy song...
and it makes me love miyavi more to see how hes able to write songs like that and then write songs about kicking other peoples *** ^________^
