I think that it's fine to like Miyavi's looks but he would like people to like his music as well, since that's what he spends a lot of time and energy working on! :p

in the japanese tabloids in march, there were these pictures of him and the psc president holding hands or something..so there was this rumor about them being together. so he responded in his diary that even though she helped him through thick and thin, hes never had any interest in her sexually, he thinks of her as his mother, etc etc. and he was saying how he never responds to tabloids but this rumor was pissing him off and his staff, fans, because its ok for him and his close people to talk crap about each other but its not okay for others (the reporters) talking crap about him, etc etc. lol

oh and btw, i think a fan is someone who just likes an artist in general. it doesnt matter if its only for their looks, or only for their music, or vice versa. as long as theres an aspect you like about that artist, then you are a fan. and its ok. personally, i like his looks MORE THAN his music. if anything, hyde is way better in music and singing. =X Miyavi is way better in looks than music, although he is pretty damn awesome in his guitar skills. this is my opinion. but of course you have to know something about an artist to determine whether you should like them or not in general. so yea, for those who only likes him for his looks, its ok but try to learn about his musical aspects as well to see whether you should continue liking him for his looks only or not. lol regardless, as long as we all love him, then we are his fans. doesnt matter what reasons we love him for. ;) *high five. lol

I don't see how anything you said explains how he would like it if people liked him for his looks. Though I do agree that he likes it when people think he is pretty because I could have sworn I read somewhere he modeled as a teen and he got the eye thing because he wanted to be prettier. Also to this day he seems to like taking photos and being infront of the camera. I think a fan is a person who adores another person or group because of what they do. Miyavi is not a model he is a musician so from my perspective you are ONLY a fan if you like his music.

Oh and about the Mcdonalds thing of course you could be a fan for all those reasons. Why? Because its connected to what they are about food, ronald, ads etc but I wouldnt think you are a fan because you liked the lighting in the restaurant. Just like I think people are fans of Miyavi because they like his music because thats what he is about.

I think people kinda feel the same I do because if you tell someone you are a fan of musical artist and they say "oh whats your fav song" and you reply " I am not a fan of his music but his looks" you would probably get strange looks from people.

i don't see how you can be a HUGE fan and go, oh i absolutely LOOVEE this so and so musician, when you don't know about anything he does music-wise. when you say you are a big fan of an actor, people would assume you'd at least seen his movie & like them. As i said, go ahead and no one will shoot you if you just want to like his looks alone, but you'll just sound stupid when people talk about his music, and you said you know next to nothing other than his cute looks. Hmmm this is getting a little confusing for me @.@... just my take on it... Miyavi is probably the most difficult J-music star to say this about! because he does different things - music, acting in movies, and of course so much photoshoots you can almost say that he is a model as well! ^^ And like you pointed out, I'm sure he couldn't choose which aspect of what he does he likes the most or would want other people to be most interested in... well he said himself he cannot choose.

My view is simply because music is the most important thing for me, so looking from my perspective, if I don't much like someone's music then I will not consider myself a 'fan' of them; that's only because music is my main interest (for example, I don't have any movie actors I'm a fan of, because I don't have so much interest in movies). That's my personal viewpoint and nothing to do with objectiveness or what Miyavi might/mightn't want.

I think it's ok to be a 'fan' of only one aspect of what someone does providing that it's clear that they do have these separate aspects - for example, an actor who does modelling; you could say he is a very good model but a lousy actor, or vice versa, and still be a 'fan'. ^^

With Miyavi, I view his music as the major part of what he does because that is the route by which he started off, on his career, and what he built his success on, and still the primary foundation of his career and 'persona'; the 'modelling' that he does is still based around promoting his music (through his personality), and although he acted, in a movie, it is not so much that it's a significant other branch of his career.

What I am driving at... is... Me, I am not comfortable to call myself a fan, I would never call myself a 'Miyavi fan' because although I think he is very good-looking, I don't like his music enough to consider calling myself a 'fan' of his. Don't get me wrong, I like his music fine enough on balance, but not enough to call myself a 'fan' I think. BUT I am quite happy to hear other people calling themselves 'fans' for WHATEVER reason that they want, whether it's the music or just his looks alone. BUT I have to add that it can be annoying if people go on and on about his looks and how hot he is, but dislike his music or know nothing about it... it just strikes me as a bit disrespectful... because although Myv himself had said he can't choose in most important being music or other things, but he does work significantly on his music and it's disrespectful in my view to disregard that... I'm not saying everyone has to like the music but they should at least listen to it and have an opinion on it... since that is part of what makes Miyavi who he is...

this is more like common sense actually. Sure you like his looks but I WOULD think a musician wants people to like his music too, and an actor wants people to like his movies. A musician does not get music awards based solely on looks.

Actually I read somewhere Miyavi started his career as a model. Don't quote me on that though. He also might have said in an interview he'd like it if people liked him for his music, but again, don't quote me. ^^

I was thinking, trying to put myself in his place mentally... I mean, how would I feel... and...
It's really nice if people like your looks, I mean everyone knows they feel happy if someone pays them a compliment about their looks, and if I was a model I would probably feel quite confident about my look... and feel good if people admire you... so, all good... ^^
But also, even suppose I was not a musician as well (imagining myself in Miyavi's place for a moment), it would become a bit emotionally tiring after a while to have many people admiring my looks... because then I would begin to feel, 'do I not have an ability in doing something, beyond simply my looks, which although I work on maintaining, are a main part not my skill?'

Because looks are not something you have to have a 'talent' to have, but are something that are natural to you (despite you may have good makeup skills or sense of style, fundamentally your looks are from nature), I think it would be quite easy after a while to feel a low self-esteem, not for your appearence, but from thinking 'maybe I don't have anything else worth while to offer'.

That's why I think that although it's absolutely fine and natural and great to admire someone's look, whoever they are, in some sense it is more respectful to the person to admire some other thing about them also - some ability that they have worked harder for, such as music, dancing or acting. Not to say they don't work hard on their looks, making photoshoots, keeping in shape etc., but like I said, the basis of their looks is not their ability and I think that could make them feel a bit insecure after a while.

btw, I don't think that he tried to kill himself either, he just seems like a stronger person than that. + that he expresses himself (in so many ways :D) through his music and personality and all, so he doesn't really keep everything bottled up, which often leads to suicide or suicidal thoughts.

I wouldn't have thought Myv was an actual drug addict, although he's probably tried some drugs during his career. I don't think he'd be able to keep up his career if he was an addict - at least, not without it becoming very obvious very soon. I think he's got too much of a business head under that spazzy exterior to compromise himself in that way. But that's just my opinion, I don't know anything.

And as far as people killing themselves... there is only one thing it's possible to say and that is 'you never know'. Because the most unexpected people commit suicide, and often it is people with a most 'happy' exterior who are most unhappy underneath it all. But that doesn't mean I think Myv wants to commit suicide! I don't! :p It was just a point. And yeah, 'rumor' is the key word in Butterbrickle's post - she was just thinking about fictions, so I don't think there's any need to get worried. :relief:

Well, about the suicide thing--just look at hide. D: Just because it's not expected in any way doesn't mean it can't happen. Anyway, I really don't think it's possible to know much, if anything at all, about what MYV is really like. At least part of his spazziness must be an act. He was way different in DLQ, after all. As for the drugs--who knows? It's certainly possible, a la Daishi.

and I think that's one of the things about admiring somebody. that theres always this prescense of bittersweet when it comes to idoltry (idoltry is a strong word but anyway), that though the person feel so close to you, he's still so far away. you are abled to receive the things that he or she does, for example music, and since those expressions often are personal you feel like you know he or she, at least maybe a little. you get naive and happy when you find something you like.. but thats mainly a good thing.
and also, I don't really think a person ever can know another person completely, I don't think thats possible. And maybe that's a good thing. It's the surprises in a personality that makes everything (friendship, love etc) between two people grow.

if you want to translate yen into USD just type in the amount and the world "yen" after it on google and it will translate the amount for you. For other currencies, maybe the google can be taylored to your own country? Not sure.

And as for region codes, they say its to protect the movie business because big blockbuster movies get released around the world at different times. So if a movie is released in the US in the summer, the DVD will be out by winter. But that same movie will be released in another part of the world (for example Japan) in winter. If that's the case, then people in Japan could order the DVD online and watch it at home and not pay the admission ticket. But since the DVDs are region coded, they can't play them. How evil.

The coupon thing should only be if you have a special offer for YesAsia I think. It has nothing to do with your actual money/payment. And as for your checks, maybe sending money order would be better? Does your country have a place where you can just convert your currency to USD (at a bank) and then you can send in a money order.

They have lip rings like his every where. Though not as commonly found in Japan as in America. I actually had a very hard time finding any jewerly there at all (I bought some rings). The few stores I found which sold peircing jewerly wanted insane amounts of money.

I've had a lip ring for years, though not like miyavi's I have no desire to have his either. But I'd have to say I've always gone with my signature black titanium that's the good **** ^_^

Yea I do like his old stuff better too. Well I guess I liked most his singles and Miyavizm the best. Gagaku and Galyuu were good too. My friend who likes Miyavi likes his new works becuase they're more "poppish". She doesn't like loud guitars and screaming (which I kind of do :blush: ).

My first Miyavi song....if I can remember correctly was Girls, Be Ambitious or POP is Dead. It was one of those. I downloaded them at the same time.

Haha this might belong in the Chit Chat forum but I got into Miyavi this year and I started listening to JRock three years ago or so. (I stopped for a while though)

At first I didn't like Miyavi's songs. I heard POP is Dead and Girls, Be Ambitious and though they were alright but weren't great. It was after hearing more of his other songs like Onpu and Miyavizm stuff that I started to like all of Miyavis works.

I went to the Japanese bookstore today to order some magazines (I got Zy No. 26 with Miyavi on the cover and Zy No. 29 with Ruki on the cover woo hoo) and I saw Kimi ni Negai Wo on sale!!! My first time looking at the actual CD and stuff. It's beautiful. I will have to wait almost a month until I get mine. Sigh* Well at least I saw it. I'll just wait patiently.

Jibun Kakumei, Girls, be ambitious, Pop is dead, Sungee Maenekina uta 2, Freedom Fighters, Dear my Friend, Biba Biba Bibappu ~Jinsei, Naki Warai~, papa mama ~nozomare baby~... i like them ones a lot.. but then thats my personal likes.... if you'd like any uploading i'll do so^^:-)

My recommendations are always Onpu No Tegami and Papa Mama nozomare nu baby. I also like Shouri no V-Rock, Are You Ready to Rock, Aho Matsuri, Freedom Fighters, Yamete Shite Sawaranaide, Shoukyo to Sakujyo, Jibun Kakumei, and all three Ashita songs. Hahhaa that's a lot. And I think i've said this list so many times lol.
