View Full Version : Can we come back to japan every 3 months?
Hi guys,
I know if i am not working in japan, the maximum number of months i can stay in japan is 3 months.
Here is my plan. I will stay to about 2 months in japan. Went back to my home country. And one month later, i will go back to japan and stay for another 2 months. Does this matter work?
Is there any job in japan where a foreigner can work in other than english teacher? My speciality is in information technology mostly related to linux server management, webpage designing, php programming , seo... all the internet related. Do you think a japan internet company will hire me?
Thanks.

there are jobs other than teaching English, have a look around on this forum, and you will find some other guys that what to do the same thing.
Also take look at websites such as Gaijinpot.com and jobhunter (I don't know the link)
Very Nice sites there. I will check them out.
Let say i do not manage to find a job. Does my first method works? ^_^

You run the risk of being unable to reenter the country if your visits are too close together, you might need a better reason than "I just really like spending my money here."
Also, don't mention working to any immigration officials if you're applying for a visitor's visa.

They'll spot you as abusing the tourist visa probably on your third time in, I would guess, turn you back at the airport, and deny you entry for at least five years.
What you propose is such an obvious and blatant gaming of the system. They don't like that.

Did it ever happen that someone did this, and couldn't come in.
Any resources?

One of our own dear friends here at JREF had something similar happen to him, I believe.

It has been done many times before. People would stay 3 months, then leave and fly to Guam, China, or somewhere else close stay a few weeks and come back. It is possible to do it, but as was stated before, it is also possible that you get caught.

On an interesting side note, there was a girl I know who was playing the visa game like that, only in Korea rather than Japan. She would hop on over to Japan for a short vacation and then back to Korea for another however long she could.
Anyway, once, right before we stopped keeping in contact, she was pulled over by the Japanese officials at the airport and questioned for playing that game IN KOREA! According to her, they almost didn't let her on the plane back to Korea.
So yes, in Japan playing the visa game is not favorably looked upon.
ok..
What if i am self employed? Like i setup a small web design business... can i use this to make myself stay in japan longer?

It can be complicated, but it is certainly possible and many people have done it.

What is the reason why Japan does not allow repeated entries within 3 months of each other?

Because it is so obviously violating the purpose of the "tourist" visa. They'll probably tolerate it twice, but from the third time you're rolling the dice and the odds are not in your favor.
Visas are granted according to the intended purpose of stay, and what you're proposing is a way to basically live in Japan without following procedure and obtaining the necessary permission. It is visa fraud, plain and simple.

I agree. hmm, perhap, i would plan in advance and squeeze in all the places i want to go within 2-3 months. And then made another trip few months later.
