View Full Version : Sick & tired of waiting for you to fix chat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about someone getting off their duff and downloading one of the many free chats available on line that work. I suspose your excuse may be you need a chat to go with the Forum program, but it seems we had chats in the past that worked with it. Any darn cheap freebee program that we can use would be a lot less frustrating then waiting over a month for this one to be fixed. Sorry, but with the lack of interesting posts to read, chat is about all that JREF has to offer. Sorry to sound so upset, but as you know, I do not have a life, other then JREF.

I will jump in and second that motion with all that I have at the moment. I will direct my focus of attention at the waste that has been so painfully obvious here, sponsored primarily by Maciamo--the energies spent upon which could definitely have been used for better purposes.

I suggest, Maciamo, that you step down from the wasteful high-horse and spend that energy and time on re-booting CHAT. I am not making direct appeal to Thomas at the moment, although I realize that both owners will be involved.

If there is anything I can do to help out in that process, to that ends, please do let me know, and I'll do what I can. It would be really nice to have a properly working CHAT again. Maciamo san, please make an effort here; to your capability. Mars Man

How about a reward?? I'll donate $50 bucks as soon as chat is up and running good again via PAYPAL to JREF !!

I can go along with that too, especially if it has the effect of doing away with some of the wastefulness that we've had to put up with recently. MM

Other people have asked about other things to be fixed for months too, but I don't think it will ever be done... :okashii:

I am not the one in charge of the chat and have never been. Most of the technical stuff on JREF are Thomas's responsibility. My "technical part" is mostly aesthetic, like adding new avatars and smileys, make new styles for the forum, redesign the whole website, mak drop-down menus, Flash maps, banners, seasonal logos, etc. Sometimes I backup the DB or upgrade the forum to a new version (well when Thomas asks me to), but I don't know anything about that chat. Sorry.

Do you think we work for 50$ ? It may take hours to fix the chat and 50$ is about what you can for teaching 1h (sometimes 45min) in some Japanese companies...

That's very encouraging and confidence-inspiring.

A little more disdain, please. I don't think you got quite enough spittle on his face.

So do it for nothing, if such paltry offers offend you.

That's very encouraging and confidence-inspiring.

I am not even saying it for myself. Several people have asked Thomas to fix the chat and other problems on Eupedia (e.g. problems with uploading pics and avatars from PC), but 6 months later there is still no progress. Well I have also asked Thomas to do a few other things (not necessarily forum related, so I won't say more), but the attitude is the same. When I am asked to fix do something for the community (or for a friend) I do it immediately...

I was not talking about me. I am not working in Japan anymore.

Aww c'mon. Seems like people can't even put in an admin/maintenance request without the thread turning into a mudslinging. :okashii: Jeez...

Yup every single thing even a genuine offical request turns into insults, fighting and pointlessness :okashii:

"Me too" posts are often considered pointless.

Yeah, I was just thinking I'd probably react exactly the same were I Thomas right now.

Often considered pointless? I think they almost always are pointless.

Pointless or not, they are perfectly harmless, and I have nothing against them personally.

People just want their voice to be heard and show continuing interest in the matter. I'm guilty myself but gee it isn't like anyone can have an original take on the question all the time....:okashii:

I appreciate the information there, Maciamo, on basically who does what or who is in charge of what ! That's good to know, and I'm glad you pointed it out, really. (Such information perhaps should have been more transparent earlier? ...perhaps...)

At the same time, I am in no way convinced that you could have been more conscientious of such technical problems with the soft of the set-up, and less with matters which you have physically, pretty much divorced yourself of.

...Several people have asked Thomas to fix the chat and other problems on Eupedia (bold mine)
If my understanding is correct, that forum has no relation with JREF other than history and a few that's-just-the-way^things-worked-out connections. We are focusing on CHAT here, for now.

*edit

Chat should be up and running again! You'll have to thank Thomas for spending his time trying to fix it, as the man has little time already !

Frank needs to put on that old Kinks record, "So tired, tired of waiting. Tired of waiting for youuuuuuuuu..."

Glenn
Nov 22, 2006, 00:25
Ugh, that song. Come to think of it, the only other song I know by the Kinks is "You Really Got Me," and I know the Van Halen version much better than theirs.

There have been many references to task shares on JREF in various threads, but no special thread has been posted explaining it in detail. I will remedy to that in this new thread (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27804)

I am not sure I understand what you mean... :?

But the issue of the chat on Eupedia and JREF is the same, and the responsibilities are the same too.

I was thinking more along the lines of a certain someone who would post "I have now voted as well" in threads where there was a poll. If someone voices an opinion that's similar but they manage to say more than "me too" I don't have a problem with that. Or if they manage to say "me too" in a creative and entertaining way that's fine too. In fact, I was thinking quite literally of someone replying "me too."

Thomas san,
Thank you very very much for fixing the Chat room problem.
It worked just fine like a dream.
I enjoyed talking with people tonight.
I am thankful for the time and effort that you spent on this.

I'll shout out a big THANK YOU THOMAS for helping us with our ability to CHAT with each other more fluently and coherently !! It's great to see the CHAT ROOM up and running.

Re:other points I have made on this thread--I did miss that information, obviously, so it had not been so present. The other points, I will let lie for now. :-)

Alright, so we have different ideas of what a "me too" reply is.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you and thank you. Put my back out and haven't been able to get on JREF till today. Can't wait to spend this evening in the chat room. Now I will have a "life" again, LOL.

Thanks again
