IMO the movie Silent Hill was catching the style and feeling of the Silent Hill games very well and even using the same backgroundmusics. The Story is also again an adult who is looking for someone in Silent Hill.
I didn't know that there were also some bloody scenes in it. It was overall welldone and you can really say that it totally reminds you of the game. Nice mix of Japanese and US horror.

The both Resident Evil movies however was much more action than horror. Much less bloody scences than in the games, not frightening at all but just shooting and kicking zombies. Although the second movie was definetly inspired by Resident Evil 3:Nemesis and RE:Code Veronica, it was still much more an action movie than a real zombie movie at all.
I prefer Dawn of the Dead (Dead Rising must have been inspired by that;) since it makes you feel much more uncomfy and creepy when watching it. Resident Evil movies cannot come close to the games sadly.

No real action movies based on another style, be manga, anime, novel or game, will ever equal the original. Nevertheless, it can be still good or bad. Harry Potter's movies don't come anywhere close to the cool novels, for I've read all the books and watched only two movies... bored to death.

Resident evil.. You're right, is more an action movie, but I liked it a lot, looking at it from that point of view. I really don't like much the game, I get too stressed out, but the movie I thought it was well done in its own style.

Silent Hill.. the game totally freaks me out, and well.. i left the movie theather non breathing for a couple of minutes, I guess i'm just not used to that kind of movies, but I don't think it was bad either. A friend told me he laughed to death, and I was like" WTF??" but he has mental problems. Now, it sure isn't at the game's level, but it is also good seen as a movie unrelated to the game. Perhaps I thought it was good because I've never really played the game?

I'd still choose Resident Evil for a simple reason: For me it was just a movie and it had Milla Jovovich in it. I bought them both.

I like Silent Hill because the movie have really shoking scenes and it´s more relative to the game than other movies based on the same things ^_^

that's what I meant. The movie Silent Hill was made in a style almost authentic to the original games by Konami. But the Resident Evil movies (thanks to Paul W. Anderson who has done everything wrong, including AlienVSPredator, except Event Horizon) did not catch the claustrophobic, dark atmosphere which could be found in the games. The surroundings/settings were too much high-tech, while I wished they would use more an old abandoned mansion, castles like in RE 1, RE Zero, Code Veronica and RE 4.
high-tech labs are part of the RE games but they were also less creepy than the villages and mansions.

Perhaps he tried to give it another athmosphere, a try to catch up new followers (like me, for ex.). Well.. I don't really know the director's route, and I remember thinking that AlienVSPredator movie was stupid, but it turned out not so stupid... ... Alright, compared with the originals, it was a little stupid, but I like to keep and open mind... is not one of my favs, but I enjoyed it at the moment. In a way, it made sense... even that aztec like pyramid. I've always wondered how and why they built that? The things inside are curious stufff...

Well the only movies i dislike its from the director of "house of the dead","alone in the dark", "bloodrayne" that movies stinks, and have nothing relative to the videogames in which are based, its only pure action and nothing of hystory, i hope that the movie of "dead or alive" do not stink........
well not in the same manner.

hey lady blue you are from "piedras negras"?

About DoA: actually the DoA movie is completely trash. It doesn't offer any really stunning martial arts action, the characters do not look similar to their original game characters at all, and the story...well, forget that part.
Even a very good friend of mine who always love the DoA series was very disappointed by the DoA movie.

About AvP: First of all, the setting was stupid, having Aliens on Earth for centuries without knowing it. Then the Predators seem underpowered in skills and strength while the Aliens overpowered (did P.W. Anderson prefer the Aliens?).
The thing with the melee weapons made of an Alien head and its tail was very ridiculous.
The ending with the chestburster coming out from the Predator is also silly. How could that happen, when all Predators have thermal vision googles which can detect any growing chestburster (or human baby in Predator2) inside a living being?
Alien (by Ridley Scott) and Aliens (by James Cameron) were the best in the Alien series, while both Predator movies were cool, although less appealing to the mainstream audience than Alien.

I didn't know there were actually so many life action movies based on games already!!!!!

CBT-san... you're a heavy movie critic. You obviously didn't like the movie... Um.. i don't think the weapon was ridicoulous, being the hunters, it kinda makes sense to me. But you're right about the chestburster. I found that out of place.

Yes, that is true. I'm critizing the AvP movie that much, because I was pretty disappointed about the result. I was looking forward for an AvP for years and when it came out, I was...:(
They should have made the movie based on the Dark Horse comics, where Predators have harvested Alien eggs and placed them in planets where the Aliens xenomorphed with the local animals. So the whole planet is a hunting area for young and veteran Predators, while the humans are accidently getting involved in space with these two species.

With AvP movie, Paul Anderson did so much damage to both franchises that hopes for another Alien or Predator movies are going lower than before.
I still cross my fingers for Alien 5 though.

My brother is an Alien fan too.. I haven't watched all of them.. actually, none of them complete. All that spittle.

Um, well the way you paint it, i guess you're right. THat story sounds interesting. But you know how sucky the movies "based on" are. Leaves all of the fans hopeless, mad or/and disapointed.

The second Resident evil movie was ok. Truth is there really has not been a true game to movie. They all just stole the games name and 10% of the plot.

Nov 29, 2006, 07:23
yeah, that´s true, that´s the cause the movie was not so good for the fans of resident evil but like lady blue say if i you not know anything of resident evil, then you will like that movie :-D

My friends and I fell into an argument upon this. A couple of them are fans and came out of the movie theather mocking on them both, but the rest of us, who ain't fans, thought they were good movies... Well, you can0t have everybody happy.

I found him. He only made one post in here. Ernesto Roman Valdés, ese es su nombre, y lo tengo en mi msn pero ya no me habla tampco... loser... Es.. diseñador gráfico o algo asi.

the 2nd resident evil movie was a lil bit better than the first one IMO but SilentHill is way better than the RE moviez..even tho the SH movie isnt exactly the same as the game but there'z still that Silenthillish feelin to it

if i you not know anything of resident evil, then you will like that movie

I don't know anything about Resident Evil and I don't like that movie. Apart from the beginning, the rest just bored me, whereas Silent Hill was really amazing. I watched it with my brother, who sat there going, "I got stuck on that ladder!" and predicting where the woman was going to go because the layout was exactly like the game. I think it would have been boring for SIlent Hill players if they used exactly the same storyline as the first game, which is why I think they slightly changed it. The only problem with Silent Hill was that I didn't understand the ending, and nobody I know who hadn't played the game understood it. You had to play the game to really fully grasp what went on in the end.

Well the only movies i dislike its from the director of "house of the dead","alone in the dark", "bloodrayne" that movies stinks

And when it comes to Uwe Boll (Alone in the dark, House of the Dead, Bloodrayne) ... well... I don't mind him... but there are plenty of people who disagree... Unfortunately the thread on IMDB.com has been deleted which contained things people would rather do than watch a Uwe Boll film... probably because it contained at lot of horrific references to the mutilation of their own genitals. Lovely.

The problem with Silent Hill (game) is that it doesn't appeal to action fans. It bores some people unless you are there purely for the atmosphere... which I am... but still. The film is still amazing though.

Well about the Silent Hill movie's ending:

Both the mother and her daughter escaped from the town Silent Hill, but they didn't escaped from its dark dimension. That's why everything is still pretty dark, cold and foggy when they came home.

I just watched Event Horizon again, and I couldn't believe that the director Paul Anderson did so crappy in Resident Evil and AvP. Event Horizon was scary, shocking and suspension. Resident Evil was action popcorn movie with some average zombie action. Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead were much better in terms of zombie atmosphere.

I've never played them either. I got bored with Resident Evil movie too easilly, but Silent Hill was really gripping and creepy.

I just wanted to steal Pyramid Head's sword. You can do that on the game, I think. Not exactly built for sneaking up on somebody though, is it?

It does have to be one of the creepiest things I have ever seen somebody play... aside from Fatal Frame of course. Speaking of game movies, does anybody know if a Fatal Frame movie exists... or is going to exist? I bet they would keep the same creepy atmosphere as Silent Hill.

For me, Silent Hill was extremely creepy but I can't help thinking that... since Silent Hill was a Japanese game... that the Japanese could have done the film so much better.

Haha. After midnight on surround sound in a big screen TV is always fun... and scary as hell.

I totally agree with you. Resident evil games completely pawn the silent hill series without a doubt. Even though the re movies are more action and less horror than the SH film i'd still choose re being a fanboy. But even if the silent hill movie is better, theres no denying capcoms RE games defeat konamis SH games.
p.s cant wait for RE:Extinction (love claire redfield!):-)

Kirie_Maiden

Resident Evil are more for people into action. For me, creepyness is a factor when choosing a horror game, not how many zombie dogs I can kill with my gun.

In response to DarkSharingan, there are different opinions and, for me, there is no denying that Silent Hill wins the creepyness battle. Resident Evil wins for action. And btw... love the name AND the avatar. Big Naruto fan myself.

GodEmperorLeto
Aug 12, 2007, 04:03
The first few Resident Evil games focused more on the creepiness than the action. I remember quite a few times when I was playing the GameCube version of Resident Evil and almost jumped out of my skin when a zombie emerged from an unexpected place.

Nevertheless, when it comes to scariness in a game, Eternal Darkness and Doom 3 at night, with the lights out, were infinitely more creepy. I'd even go so far as to say that they were creepier than the Silent Hill games.

What happened to Resident Evil? While I never played Resident Evil 3, I've watched my brother play Resident Evil 4 and it seemed to be almost a Lovecraftian-style evil cult story without the mind-numbing madness-inducing terror. It was more of a shoot-em-up with your Wiimote game.
