Erh.. since some people have been thinking, that I am probably very negative person when it comes to Japanese, let me tell you something.
I just vent to do some christmas shopping in my town. I met two children in one day. While waiting in shopping line, there was a Japanese girl maybe in about age of 6-7, she sweetly adressed me: chotto matte kudasai ne :-) .

then i went to other shop, there was also an 6-7 years old kid with her family. When approached at stairs, the girl kept saying kawai kawai(scary, scary). Still from the face of that child I can tell she wasnt affraid at all, she was just doing what her parents had teached her, demo she wasnt scrared at all. I can tell it....:-) .

I am not complitely bad guy or negative you know.

Was she saying "kowai" (scary" or "kawaii" (cute)?

Yeah it should be kowaii not Kawaii right? Anyway thanks for sharing this positive incident with us not that I think you are always negative. Sorry if this came out the wrong way.

MrJones, went I read your thread I read "I just vent to do some christmas shopping in my town." and thought the "vent" looked a lot like my gf (who is finnish) would say/write it and then I saw your sig in Finnish. :p

How long are you in Japan now? Children of any nationality act a bit scared towards other people, it's not only the Japanese ;-) A while ago a Belgian kid stuck his tongue out to me and made funny faces when I looked at him with an angry face :D Kids, they crack me up !

I dont get it, you went to a mall, and witnessed kids with poorly developed public manners?....

I think you are missing the point, I mean there really were no negative points. I mean most of the kids and older people in Japan are actually very nice folk. To me the only problem really is the kids who seem to be about my age.
