View Full Version : Appropriate language at restaurants
I've heard this phrase a million times but have always forgotten to look into it further. You go to a resaurant and place your order, the waitress says something like 「以上で宜しいでしょうか」. Is that right? I assume it means something like "would that be all?" or literally "this much is good?".
So what are some possible responses to this, apart from はい. Or, what should you say if the waitress is waiting for your next order but you're done, i.e. "that's all thanks"?

I just say "はい," or "はい、以上です" usually, nothing more is required. If you're done ordering and the server doesn't notice, you can just say "(それ)以上です"
I'm interested to see what others say in this situation.

Easily avoidable. When you're done ordering, tell her.
以上です。
Or finish off with a nice お願いします。
Absent something on the end of your list of munchables to indicate finality, after an awkward pause she pretty much has to check to make sure you're done.

Another way would be それでたくさん。in response to either something like
以上で宜しいでしょうか or ほかに何か

I don't think the (I presume) humorous intent would translate well.
