Hehe, look at how beat up Gackt is in that picture. It looks like the movie really will be exciting. I'm just so excited to watch him be a samurai, since I have hardly seen any clips of Furin Kazan.

It makes me feel so proud of Gackt. That he is actually doing the things that he wants to do. For anyone else the whole World Domination thing would sound funny...but I think Gackt can actually do it! 0_o It's impressive how well he is succeeding.

You know why I am really excited about Bunraku? Because he will have to speak English in it. *squuuueeeeeeeee* I love Gackt's engrish!!! He has such a cute accent!!

I have reservations about how much Bunraku will bring Jrock to the rest of the world if I'm honest. Of course more people will have heard of Gackt but I don't know if it will make a significant difference.
As an analogy, Rain was recently in Speed Racer (although shite was a pretty big film) and I don't know about in the US but in the UK Korean music is no more popular than before. Perhaps Rain has a few more fans but I don't think we can buy his music and it's not looking likely that he will play a live. However, this might not be a fair analysis as I know he is pretty popular in the US.

Jrock seemed to get popular for a small time in the UK but still not very much... however the rest of Eurpoe is different so I can't really say for sure.

I think what I'm trying to say is that I think Gackt will mainly be known as an actor and this will make little difference to the music popularity.

OK I'm going to stop ranting as I'm not sure this makes all that much sense... it's too early in the morning to have a proper opinion!

@CharismaticDeath: I don't think that Bunraku itself will make a huge difference. It's just that Gackt is starting to do so many things outside of Japan, that it seems eventually people will notice. Now if he starts acting in more widely known films, or at least continuing with movies with popular actors, who knows what he can accomplish. ^_^ But it's true, I don't think that Bunraku is going to be a big release. It's supposed to come out this summer, and there is no mention of it anywhere but on Josh Hartnett and Gackt blogs. So yeah, it probably will have minimal effect on the popularity on J-Rock. -.-"

I think that a lot more people would be interested in him if the Youtube videos were still up. Anyone that is really interested in him for his acting will almost certainly look it up. And before you couldn't search for anything on him without running into Vanilla or Mizerable. >_< Now the best they'll find is tv interviews...and then of course they'll lose interest because he isn't saying a word in english. *headdesk*

I think the state of Jrock outside Japan has improved a lot. I remember the first Jrock gig in the UK (I don't mean one associated with an anime convention). Things are dying down recently ... which is a shame... we seem to get missed out of most tours outside Japan :( They need to realize that Europe is a big place and we can't just all fly to France for a gig. But that's a totally different issue.

382addict - of course he will get some new fans... probably quite a lot. And hopefully they just think of him as "the hot guy from Bunraku!" But I suppose that's better than nothing :)

We never know... maybe one day we'll get a Gackt show that isn't in asia! But right now I doubt it... he can sell out such big venues there it would be operating on such a loss to come here and play a tiny venue.... however much I'd love it!

Oh, I totally know what you're talking about. I was thinking the exact same thing and kind of ranting about it to my friends. its always cute when japanese boys try to speak english. I was listening to agony of the gazette for weeks until i thought "hey wait, there is an english word in the lyrics" then i looked them up and realised that the whole song is in english, not just one word :D but Gacchan and Miyavi are quite good now. There is this one video of Gacchan on youtube (not sure if its still there) where the interviewer asks him "how are you feeling tooday?" and he smiles and says "aaah, I'm a lilttle bit tired". I dont know why but I'm so in love with this short little clip, I cant tell you how much.

and about this fangirls thing. I dont know if girls who are there for josh suddenly fall in love with Gacchan... I mean he is japanese and most of these typical fangirls dont even go for japanese boys. I mean there might be some but since the movie isnt going to be that big I dont think we have to be afraid of losing him to the mass. At least I really really pray for it. And even if this is going to happen, we know that we arent one of this mainstream fangirls and that we knew him LOOONG before they even talked about this movie so we rock xD :D

Gyc-jir - I agree... it's a shame they don't seem to have gone anywhere with S.K.I.N... we got one show that wasn't even a proper gig and then a few remarks in interviews about doing an album (mainly from Miyavi) ... and then nothing. It's so disapointing. They had loads of fans before any one had even heard them!

As for the discussion about hords of screaming Gackt-fangirls appearing... I agree 100% with everyone! (because I'm cool like that :D) ... I used to want Jrock to be really popluar here... I did my best to get as many people to like it as possible, and I think I did pretty well. But then it went a little further than I wanted it to. We started getting gigs... and then I came into contact with other fans... don't get me wrong, some people I've recently met who like Jrock are awesome. But there are far too many people out there who are just into it for the look. Either that or they type who are "I am considerably more Japanese than you" ... no you're f*in not! neither of us are!
Then you get the problem of being dumped in with all the emo kids out there who are into Jrock. This counts for the UK (we have an emo epidemic atm!) That mainly comes from the numerous articles Kerrang! insist on publishing on Dir en grey... including the most recent one where Kyo said he doesn't have any friends! The rest of the band must have been thinking "helooooo!" that just fuels the emo mentality... Kyo is so alone... I relate to him so much! Arrrr! Irrational anger time!

As for the people who think Gackt is gay or a woman. I have even less time for them... ok slightly more time for the people who think he's (or could possibly be) gay. He did admit himself that he was bi-curious I remember... but any ways... yaoi is just any fangirls dream! But the woman thing... he's possibly the most manly Jrocker out there. The only time I've thought he looked feminine was in Fuurin Kazan... but that was only in comparison to the other men... who were most definitely men! (I can't think of any other way of putting it... any one whos seen it will know what I mean!)

I think that really, if you are going to like jrock, then you are going to just deal with the fact that you need to accept a lot of things that would never have occured to you before. If we are ever allowed to join Dears, it will cost money of course. So that will keep out some of the unworthy people. ^_^ If they don't really care they won't spend the money.

And just because someone finds him through a movie and initally likes him only because he is cute, that doesn't mean that they won't end up being a real fan. Gackt having more fans is a good thing. If they are only going to watch his movies they will watch Bunraku. rent Moon Child, and that will be it. Because he is still primarily a musician. After that they will either quickly get bored, or they will start listening to his music and slowly end up loving him (of course ^_^).

I don't think that the terms 'old fans' and 'new fans' should have anything to do with anything. If we are going by that, then I have no right to join Dears, because there are a lot of people who loved him before Final Fantasy VII came out. And if it weren't for those games I never would have heard anything about him. I think that Bunraku is just the same type of thing.

About things like us joining Dears, or him touring other countries - I was watching Diabolos live, and noticing how emotional he always is when he sings. And it was a song that I had never read the translation for so I started wondering what he was saying and trying to listen for words that I understood. It kind of made me think that it makes sense that Gackt would be hesitant to perform outside of Japan, or open up to international fans, because the lyrics matter so much. He put together each song perfectly, and he would just be singing to deaf ears, because we would have no idea what he was saying. I imagine that it would be very hard for him to put on a show when he didn't feel he was getting his message through. He's probably just as afraid as we are of people liking him just for his looks. This is all just guess work again, but it seems kind of logical.

even if it's only guess work, all you say makes perfectly sense. The music is very important to him and a real artist puts so much emotions and pieces of their lifes into the music... so maybe he really is afraid that people outside japan dont get the message, what he feels or what he tries to deliver to people... but he should know that we really care. Even if we arent japanese. We dont like him only coz of his look. We really care, about everything that has to do with him even if he will never performe outside japan, we'll stand behind him.

And about Bunraku. Well like I said before. I dont even think too many people will be a fan of him just because of this movie since alot of these hollywood people arent even into japanese boys. They'll all fancy josh hartnett and totally ignore Gacchan... well not all but many of them anyways.

@Gyc-jir: I thought again about what you said about him touring outside of Japan and being afraid to sing to deaf ears and not to deliver his messages properly... and I thought that this would make perfect sence because he translated the lyrics for the european diabolos cd/booklet HIMSELF and didnt let anybody else translate it. I think he's really careful and serious about his songs, lyrics and their meanings. I'm on the point now where I think that it has nothing to do at all with not liking his foreign fans... I was just impulsive and being stupid by saying stuff like I did earlier.

the thing with the language barrier, though... those of y'all who live in USA may know/remember what i am talking about... or maybe not. a couple years or so back, Shakira had a hit song in spanish that won a grammy and stuff, La Tortora. granted there are more people in the USA who can speak spanish than there are who speak japanese, and there are people like me who live in very mixed, multicultural neighborhoods, and go to mixed schools who pick up enough of the language as they go along to understand... but the meaning of the song came through clear. and it was certainly better than a lot of the other crap thats in english. i actually listen to very few songs that are in languages that i understand - mostly songs in japanese and spanish. *although my native languages are russian and french*
also, if there is such a great language barrier, explain to me the giant success that is Dir en grey?????????? and when kyo speaks english it is harder for me to understand what he is saying than when he sings in japanese!! i am pretty sure he is snarling something in english at me right now, might be "f*cker" but cant understand at all -_-" and when Ruki was singing in english in "Filth in Beauty" i only got the "sexual disgrace" part without looking up the lyrics :D

I agree about the last part. I think he really is afraid or insecure about the english language and how his messages and words come through to foreign fans.

On the topic of the languages: I don't blame Gackt at all anymore about the lack of English translations. I have just been frantically working at learning Japanese recently. ^^" I was terrified of Kanji at first, but I think it shouldn't be too hard if I just concentrate on it. >_>

My main Gackt focus recently has been Moon. I watched Jougen no Tsuki and then reread his chapter in Jihaku about the whole Moon Concept thing, and then started reading the lyric translations and got really caught up in it. ^^ So many of the songs of that lyrics are so emotional and confusing, that I can just spend 45 minutes goin over one song over and over again until I think I might have some idea of what he's talking about.

I like Journey Through the Decade better than Ghost and Jesus, too. They were just...not Gackt. I still like listening to them, but they don't have the same feeling as his others. It was fine with Jesus, but then Ghost came out and it was the same way.

Does it seem to anyone else like Gackt's songs and PVs and such have had...kind of less meaning recently? His old songs and tours had specific points that he was trying to get across, and stories that they were trying to tell. It just seemed like Ghost and Jesus were kind of lacking that, and they were just music. Ugh, I don't know. Maybe it's just because I'm not looking at the entire album yet, and that would make a difference. I just miss the way that Gackt used to look, where he was so young and open and...just cute and emotional. I think his new (kind of new) hairdo is just going to my head...I miss the brown... >_>

Well, the only thing that I have heard him say about his current tour is "This is going to be my best and biggest tour ever." That's....frustrating. Has anyone else heard him give any other reasons for this tour?

I thought about the "less meaning"-thing when ghost came out. I love it, it is catchy but without thinking about the lyrics or meanings. I didnt like jesus so I never really looked up the lyrics since I dont like the PV either (not at all even tho I like how gacchan looks in it)... I'm not sure about the new song tho.

About his look: I think Gackt used to look kinda cute/hot-ish and now he's more the serious, grown up musician... uh I dont know how to say that but I realised it when I saw that picture of him in the studio:

The Jesus pv was...weird. Watching them all being all violent and such was not exactly pleasant. I thought that Ghost pv was kind of annoying, but I was so impressed with the dancing that I didn't really mind. But what's with the robot outfits in the new one?? Umm...that's just kind of lame... And it's not even like in Metamorphoze, where it was because of the anime that it was done for. What happened to the poetic pvs, like "Oasis" and "Todokani Ai to Shitte...." (I'm not going to write the whole ridiculously long title ^_^)? >_> Or even just the strange but Gackt-ish ones like "Vanilla" and "Arittake no Ai De"?

Maybe the change in appearance is because he has figured himself out more? At the time that he was writing the soul-searching lyrics and crying during lives, that was before he had even written Jihaku, and in Jihaku he still had some questions about himself - even though he seemed well on his way to figuring it out. So maybe he just has more like...peace now. And that would explain how smiley he's been, and even things like the laid back music (which is unfortunately a downside).

His most recent album (besides the compilation 0079-0088) was Diabolos, right? Even that had a whole theme to it. I read a huuuuuuuge interview about it, where he talked forever about the comparison of humans - who want to live forever, and vampires - who want nothing more than to die. It was the comparison of life and death and the meaning of it all.... I hope that he doesn't stop doing his music like that.

I thought the same thing about the tour! Like a big boom before he is done. And actually...some other things that he has said have pointed to that too. *terror* But really...somewhere inside of me I still haven't given up hope on S.K.I.N.. I know that's really stupid of me, but none of them seem like the kind of people to just stop in the middle of something they planned to do! I don't know the others very well, but Gackt certainly wouldn't! They had the interviews. They talked about an album. It would just be completely bizarre if they completely dropped everything. So maybe (just maybe) they are just waiting till they have a few more things finished up in Japan....and then they will tour somewhere else?? *please, please, please* Maybe this is just a big tour from Gackt before he entirely changes his career??

Gackt has been reaching out to other countries more, even if it doesn't feel like it. Things like the European Diabolos and Bunraku. And really, before Diabolos he hadn't been to Korea either. They used to be in the exact same situation we are (no Dears, no lives), but now he has been there. So he is branching out a bit at a time. It looks like he is moving toward America sooner than Europe, though.

I think the violence in the Jesus PV was disturbing and also watching a german SS guy trying to shoot himself until he finally managed to do it after what? like 4 minutes... I totally didnt like this PV... I liked the Ghost PV better but I watched the live performance of Ghost on music station wayyy more often because I totally loved it. The way they looked, moved and the light...and the short talk before the performance with him smiling and all... I really liked that. I just watched the new one once because of the stupid camera moving... urgh.

i loved the jesus pv actually... i was thinking about it a lot, and after i got a lil bit of understanding into it, i said to my best friend, i think i am finally starting to understand jesus... she looked at me in horror and asked if i was going religious on her... i think it was such a relief to her that she started listening to Gacchan... but i didnt like Jesus as much as a lot of the other stuff, although it is fun to sing along to and i love yelling just do it, and i even used it for the christian club christmas playlist... our english assistant principal knows japanese very well though, so he stood there for a moment, listened to the song, said, i liked Vanilla better, and left laughing... i was like o_O... wtf??? but jesus was too...knock off of fall out boy for me. i loved diabolos.
the whole philosophical thing was just f*cking amazing, although i found that i think more like a vampire. i value my ability to die someday, the fact that i wont be stuck here forever... dont get me wrong girls, i love life and all that but i want to die someday, to sleep, to sleep, perchance to dream... i want to know what else is there, in that inevitable path that all mortals must walk... Moon is the album that really means a lot to me. There are so many different comparisons of people going through different miserable situations - and yet the songs never really tell you their stories. You are left to try to figure out what actually happened to them. There are a couple songs in that album that can get me so worked up when I listen to them and think about the lyrics. ow same here, even if he came to germany it would be in one of the big cities here and the next big city (the city where concerts usually are) is 3 hours by train and the train tickets are feckin expensive and then I couldnt get home at night and all... but if he really came here, I wouldnt care... Well, I looked the it up again, and it seems that Gackt did say in an interview that he was considering retiring in 2010. So, if he has said that himself, then it looks like he isn't going to be like all of those others that are devoted for life, even if he does continue on past just next year.

I was just reading a tour review for his current tour that was written just a little bit ago, and she said that during the first concert all of the band members were doing summersaults and cartwheels and such, and then Gackt tried to do a backflip and completely failed. >_< One backflip.
And then in the second concert he only got a couple yells out during Mirror before he stopped and said, "Not today. I can't do it today." He did continue, but only for a little bit before he stopped completely. I kind of felt ill reading it...

I'm not trying to say that he is in a worse condition than other JRockers! Even I, who hardly knows anything about Yoshiki, have heard about his awful health. It's just making me very sad. So the idea of him going another five years until he's Hydes age, or almost ten years until he's Yoshiki's age makes me...unhappy.

Haha! You beat us both! But I recounted and I think I actually cried six times, because I forgot about the scene when Sho asks Kei to turn Yi-Che into a vampire. And then I stoped crying for a while between when Sho almost died and when they went driving (Hana distracted me, and then Gackt had that woman hair that honestly made me laugh out loud), so that counts as two different times. ^_^

Ooh!! I love the part when they are all making fun of Sho on the roof of Son's house! Gackt is so cute when he's embarrassed!!! *^^*

One of the other reasons I love that movie is because I have always loved picturing Gackt with a daughter, so all of the scenes with Hana as a little girl made me soooo happy!!

About Gackt retiring: The interview where he mentioned 2010 was in 2007, I think. But my sister remembered something that I had completely forgotten! About SKIN. As much as I would love (lovelovelove) for them to tour, their performance really bugged me. Gackt at least just wasn't acting like himself. Someone asked him once what his impression of American girls is, and he said, "My impression is that they're hungry for rock." Gyc-jir - I kinda get what you're saying about Gackt in SKIN... I only saw some of the fan footage of that concert ... seein as there is no official footage out there! It did seem very different from his usual shows but I didn't really see that as a problem... it was supposed to be a different thing and not an extension of his solo career. It would become a problem if he started acting differently when doing his own songs or if he completely abandoned his solo work for SKIN... and the opposite has happened with all the members.
I would still like SKIN to take off but they all seem too busy to even think about it. I've just heard that Yoshiki has taken up yet another soundtrack project that requires a Violet UK song... and X are having difficulties.

Gackt is making a hollywood movie, Bunraku, staring Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore. :-) They finished filming in Romania quite a while ago, and supposedly are going to release the movie in July or August. But there is no info about it anywhere and so everyone is getting really impatient. >_>
