View Full Version : Japanese games
Hey. I am a big fan of all Japanese games and if anybody wants to talk about the topic or has any questions about any Japanese game, just ask it.

there are many many more japanese games besides the ones you've listed. im thinking maybe you should expand your poll to include a wider variety of games. i like shenmue, the dynasty warriors series, doa series, and a plethera of others.
Wouldn't be easier if you joined all the Pokemon options in only one? They're all the same! Considering the lack of options, I wouldn't choose any of them.
My favorites are Dragon Quest series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, Dynasty Warriors series and Namco's Tales of series. There are also some good love sim games like Kanon, Clannad, Air and Bistro Culpid.

Sakura Taisen... that'd be my vote if it were there... no doubt...
Sorry, I didn't have enough time to write all the games down. If the game(s) are not in the poll, tell me.

Initial D - Special Stage :P
But I agree, too many games to make a poll about it, And offering Dragon Ball Z as a choice solo is VERY bad, there are at least 7 I know of , and none of them were that great.

Hmm import only? Would the Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga series count?
Hi Shinmeiryu
Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga series can count. I want to include all Japanese games, not just import.
I haven't even beaten Pokemon Sliver yet -.- I'm still stuck on this one part. But Pokemon Sliver isn't my favorite game. My favorite game right now is Zelda the WindWaker.
Ami, what part are you stuck on? I have clocked Pokemon Silver and Gold a few times.
Oh really you'll help me on the game! thanks! I asked so many people and they didn't know what i was talking about.-.

My favorite game right now is Zelda the WindWaker.
I'm playing that right now. My favorite Zelda has to be Ocarina of Time, though. It's a classic.
Sure I'll help you. Just tell me what you need help on.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance; awesome to say the least.
well, I need help on the part about the Powerplant and you have to look for some Team Rocket guy that stole some generator thing from the Powerplant. In order to use the Magnet Train the Powrplant has to work. The last time I saw the Team Rocket guy was at Curlean Gym where Misty is. I need to you to tell me where to ind the Team Rocket guy and get the Powerplant to work._. o-o thanks!_!
The team Rocket member is near Nugget Bridge which is north of Cerulean
Well, north of Cerulean is the Cerulean Cape and next is the Sea Cottage or Bill's Cabbine._. o.o wheres the Nugget Bridge or did I pass it already + where is the Team Rocket guy at? All I see are people that I've already beat._. This is Pokemon Sliver right that were talking about?
You would of passed him. Did you see him in Misty's gym? If not, go there and then towards Cerulean Cape.
I've already seen him in Misty's gym and then he disappeared. So where do I find him after he leaves Misty's gym?
He has dissapeared?! He should be around Nugget Bridge or near Cerulean Cave in Cerulean City. You don't even have to fight him. The machine part is in the water in Mistys gym. Look for the bit of water that has 4 squares. It is in there.
Okay. So what do I do to the water?
Surf around and press A. It should then say when you recieve the machine part
Thanks so much!_! Now I can finally beat the game._. Sorry I asked so many questions and stuff. But thanks for helping me out.
Don't worry about it. If you get stuck, just ask.
Okay._. But this was my 1st time getting stuck on a Pokemon game. o-o I doubt I'll get stuck again or at least I hope not. o_o
I really enjoy Golden Sun 1 + 2. ;)

Gonna have to complain a little about this poll....generally MOST games are Japanese, I think you mean best game that's associated with an anime, or something, going by the poll?
Well my favourite game of all time is probably.....FFVII (yeah, it's a common choice but umm...BLEH!) and that's Japanese, so umm, yeah. o_o

sorry, but none of those
got to add another game : Ghouls and Ghosts on the megadrive!! I got the japanese version on saturday and was playing it most of yesterday again. I converted one of my megadrives so that it will play all region cartridges using Porl's Patented Conversion technique (tm). hehe
Mr Deathy is right. Most games are japanese...you wouldn't think some where though.
Porl''
p.s. if anyone has a PAL (uk) megadrive and wants to know how to convert it to play japanese or US games without using a converter just holla.. ;)
i added the "other" option to the poll for those whod like to vote but not for the listed choices... better late than never. :p
@porl
megadrive?
@porl
megadrive?
doh! I didn't think of that.. Sega Genisis. In Europe and Japan it was called a Megadrive. ;)
Porl''
oh ok, i just use my dreamcast for that, it doubles as a SNES, NES, neo geo and atari too, all without requiring a mod.

how'd do you manage that? using a boot disk? Rom disks?
Porl''
yuh since the DC doesnt require a special disc, like the ps1/2 or xbox any disc will do you just need the right boot up discs most rom discs come with a boot up. but basicly you just need the right codecs and you can even get the thing to work as a media player.
COOL!! ;) I've never looked into doing that with my Dreamcast. I just got it chipped so i could play imports.
Do you just download the Roms then burn them to a CD yourself or are you buying them?
Porl''
download and burn, they are distributed as freeware, actually theres warnings at the startup that go something along the lines of "if you paid for this you got ripped off, find the person that sold it to you and get your money back!"

Are you talking about commercial roms? If that's what you have in mind, their distribution is totally illegal, unless you own the original cartridges/CDs. They are not considered freeware by any chance!

I voted "other". My favorite game at the this time would have to be Beatmania IIDX 7th Style. It's technically called a "DJ simulation" game, though I see it as "The friggin' best ever rythm game to grace the planet"... It's made by Bemani (the same people who make DDR), but it is MUCH better than DDR. (DDR is still awesome, though) At any rate, if you've never heard of it, download an emulator like BemaniaDX and a couple of songs and check it out!

I'd have to go with Initial D: Special Stage for PS2. On the old school PlayStation, I'd say Tobal 2.

None of the crap mentioned above.
Besides, since I don't have a console and certainly won't waste money for one, I'm limited to PC games :relief:
The Japanese game in English I have tried and liked the most is Grandia 2 :haihai:

Right now I'm playing some of the old Starfi games, and Kurukurukururin (both old GBA titles). I like the Taiko no Tatsujin series quite a bit too (great for playing with friends), and I still enjoy playing FFXI every now and then.
Usually, when I think of "Japanese" videogames, though, I assume that someone is talking about a game that was never released outside of that region (ie. Starfi, Initial D., Yoshinoya, most of the Super Robot Taisen games, and so on).

jajaa, you monopolized the games of the poll to basically pokemon and "children stuff", which I also like, but not my favourite whatsoever. I would say Final Fantasy X ~International Version~ is my favourite game of all, but I would be cheating around. I don't have a favourite game of all. I sometimes can compare a simple RPG with a masterpiece, and that's because for me, RPG's are all different. I don't know how to explain this feeling, but it's like when I play Wild Arms, I try to feel like the main character, who loves his world, and he thinks he is living in the best place. So, when I play Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger, I feel exactly the same. I love to get into the plot, even sometimes not understanding them because they're in Japanese, but I always try to figure out what they're feeling or saying. It sometimes you don't need to know Japanese to know what they're really saying from the deepest of their hearts. That's my opinnion about games.

Currently, spending quite a bit of money on idolm@ster/idolm@ster l4u dlc's... like what they say, gotta make my lolis lolier.
most jp rpgs get NA/EU versions nowadays so I don't know if you wanna count that.
I'm a fan of tales (fave: destiny 2)/suiko (fave: suiko 3)/wild arms (fave: 2nd advance.. LILKA CHAAAAN) series... ace combat series as well.. fav would be ace combat 3 (japanese mind you, I need to talk to my girls before missions). .. tenchu (older ones)..oneechanbara. etc
oh, slayers royal 1/2, gatekeepers on psx, and the movie type: yaru dora series (esp kisetsu wo dakishimete.. double cast), and katte ni tenshi. endless list actually. (stuff of which school days is based on)
When younger, I'd play a lot of them renai's tokimeki 1-2/Noel 1-3/mitsumete knight/sakura taisen (semi renai)- the one you go around whacking on horse is nice though.. but kinda got bored of their merchandise in general... .. not to mention a lot PC renai's. *ahem* along with shining series.. kinda got bored of them.. despite loving tony taka's art.
Lastly.. probably the jp game i _wasted_ most of my life on, romance of the three kingdoms.. yes the slow turn based one...yes those lil armies bouncing off each other with numbers popping up.. oh that reminds me of langrisser too aa.... anyway rotk 4-11 cannot get enough... cannot get enough.. in fact where is my rotk on 360 or ps3?!?

I recently bought this game:
http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/tenka/index2.htm
to while away the time during new year's. It's not the newest one, but it suffices for me. It's the first real game I've bought in some time, so it's pretty interesting.
