I was just wondering... What are the conditions for a European to obtain Japanese citizenship?

Dark Gami,
This is a past thread on how to become Japanese citizen:
Japanese naturalization (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20530&highlight=Japanese+naturalization)
There may be other threads if you do a search, because many people have asked this question in the past.
HTH! :-)

That they swear to quit reading manga and watching anime.
I think they're also required to have actually lived here long enough to get their feet on the ground and their heads out of the clouds.

Being able to pick a number out of one and say... a million sounds familiar. I think getting citizenship is similar odds.

Thanks. The link was very helpful. Sorry for asking a question that was already asked.

I wouldn't want to get citizenship in Japan, but that's just me. I'd love to live and work there for a time, but I wouldn't want to give up my U.S. citizenship. I'd still vote with absentee ballots and stuff. I can understand wanting to come to the U.S. and get citizenship, because it is a heterogeneous society (at least on the coasts where most of us are descendants of immigrants). But a very insular and homogeneous society like Japan doesn't really appeal to me, at least in terms of becoming a naturalized citizen.
But that's just me.

It would be good to get rid of my British citizenship. Britain is, quite frankly, going to the pits. Collapsing Pits...
The tax system keeps getting worse, and Gordon Brown or whatever his name is is making it easier for those claiming 'dole' money, and three times harder for the working people. In fact, I know some people who get less money from working than others get from sitting around doing nothing.
Yep, I hate my british citizenship. :|

No, Debito Arudo has it, and so does Tsurunen Marutei. I am sure that this is possible. I don't however wish to renounce my Canadian citizenship for it, although I would be happy to toss my British citizenship in exchange for a Japanese one, since a Japanese passport is better than a British one overall. But I know you got to toss both for one, and a two for one deal is not a good deal.

Agreed. Let me know when you successfully become Japanese. Every developed nation has multiculturalism. Japan needs to follow suit.
