View Full Version : Help! Looking for hotel in Chiba city!
The GF:09: and I will be having a 19 hour layover in Narita in June, and so we are looking for a nice place to stay in Chiba city as it is not as far as Tokyo. We would love to stay in a more traditional setting, but I am having trouble finding anything in Chiba city - when I google it, everything listed is in Chiba prefecture, and nowhere near Chiba city!
Also, where can I get a map of Chiba city (preferably in English) as JNTO was of no help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! :thankyou:

Japan Reference Forum itself has a hotel/ryokan guide and search engines:
Japan Reference: Accommodations (http://www.jref.com/practical/accommodation.shtml)
Another personal recommendation is this ryokan in Narita, just 10-15 minutes away from Narita Airport:
Wakamatsu Hoten (http://www.wakamatsuhonten.jp/)
Since you don't have much time to go far, why not enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere of a "ryokan"?
This one was established in 1768, offering accommodations to visitors to Mt. Narita's Shinshouji Temple (also a historic site).
Hope you find what you like!
Thanks guys - it helps to know where to look on the net!:clueless:
A ryokan sounds ideal as we arrive at 4pm and depart at 11 am, so this way we can also fit in a traditional Japanese breakfast :ramen: - something both of us have been very curious about!
We were thinking about staying in Chiba as a larger city would have more things open/to do in the evening. On our way back to NZ from Italy we are stopping over again, from 9 am to 6 pm, and will use the day to wander around Narita then. The few pictures I have sen so far of Narita depict it as a very beutiful traditional township (pop. is under 100k if I'm not mistake, only a 10th of Chiba).
Again, thankyou all for you help!:thankyou:
Plans have changed a little - the wait list didn't clear but we managed to rebook. We now arrive at the same time, but in the middle of the first week in July. Gives me a bit more breathing space to find something! Proving difficult to find a ryokan in Chiba city, as everytime I search I always end up with ryokans in Chiba prefecture, but not in Chiba City.

Pity! i hope you will find something i wish you strenght and i hope you will have a good stay in Chiba :)
Yeah looks like I'll take the advice and book at the Ryokan in Narita. The missus and I will stil jump on the train to Chiba though, as we will be out of the airport by 5pm (took me less than an hour to get out last time). We want to go and do a spot of shopping (she really digs the Re-mento stuff, but it costs too much here in NZ). Does anyone know where I can get train info for the last trains from Chiba city to Narita? Cheers again in advance
I love this forum!:-)

The most suitable route search of a Japanese train@,@ train time.

Thanks for your help Hiroyuki! We have decided to go with a business hotel in Narita, we would love to stay in a Ryokan but we believe we should leave that until we travel to Japan with the intention of spending more than a layover there. We will be spending our time mostly running around and soaking up as much as possible, then sleping a little before running back to the airport, so we only need the hotel for a bed and a shower, there won't be time to experience the hotel in itself :(
Oh well, thanks again, you guys rock!

First off, again a big thanks to all for your help. We have decided o a ryokan in Narita due to the easy access to the airport. Looks very nice and all the reviews I have found were positive (linky: http://www.naritakanko.jp/ohgiya/englih.html).
Again thanks. Now to find info on Chiba city (i.e. when the shops close, as I have some shopping to do!).
Arigato all!
