I'm going for two weeks to check out the college I'm attending in September and to sightsee.
So, going alone, my question is, good idea - bad idea?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
My Japanese skills aren't perfect, but I'm pretty comfortable with them!
I quite often prefer to travel alone its more interesting. My reccommendation is have fun man, if you say your Japanese is good enough then you should have no problems at all.
Oh actually I might have said this about 5 times before in other topics and to risk sounding like a broken record... Buy a JR Rail Pass it will save you a small fortune if you intend to really travel about.

Try to look at the upside of things... you're going alone, ok, you will do as you please and not have to argue with a partner about what both of you want to do and go.

I came here alone when I came to live here, and I had travelled to New Zealand on my own last year too.
You'll always meet friendly people along the way, and Japan is very safe. And since you speak Japanese you're at an advantage! I spoke it very little when I first arrived (should have practised more!!!)

If you can speak a decent amount of Japanese It will be alright to go alone.
Do make sure that you plan your things good, so that you won't waste your time.

Buy the Japan Rail Pass.
(I just got back from two of the best weeks of my life out sightseeing and seeing friends/ex-GFs).
The Rail Pass will save you tens of thousands of yen if you go ANYWHERE.
