The PS3 is way too expensive for my blood, although I do own the PSP. I also own a DS and a Gamecube. I haven't had a chance to purchase the Wii, but I look forward to owning one.

people seem to forget that when the ps1 came out it cost 4oo pounds in britain and the ps3 is one serious console not to mention a blu ray player and the online stuff is free unlike xbox.

Wasn't the PS2 about 200 when it came out (and that was a serious piece of kit in its time)!?!

I just think 400 is a step too far. Blu Ray will be obsolete before the natural life-cycle of the machine itself (think Hi-Def movies online and on-demand within a year or two).

That said, i'm looking at a combination of the Wii and either the PS3 or Xbox. I almost bought a Wii today on my way back from London, but Super Mario Strikers Charged looked a bit, well...average...in HMV. I would still buy an Xbox in terms of price (350 with two games and two controllers) but i'm worried still about hardware malfunction issues...:bluush:

Dont know if you have heard this but Blu-Ray technology isnt all its cracked up to be, as far as I know its already been hacked and Sony is furious as its little baby is not as secure as it had thought.

I have a teenage child here, who when asked if they wanted the ps3 when it was due to come out, replied with just this :- "No thanks as I dont really want to ask you to also get me a brand new HDTV just so I can watch Dvd's on it"

I do expect the price of consoles to start dropping soon and my money is on Microsoft emerging as the eventual winners, and the various console makers will try to out sell the others by making consoles and games packages lower and lower in price. It will be a cut-throat market out there soon.

Xbox 360, Xbox, GC, Wii, PSX, PS2, DSLite. My bro and I love our video games. The Wii is an entertaining switch on the console gaming scene and I never got tired of using the nunchuk while playing through Twilight Princess. I'm on Super Paper Mario now and while it doesn't utilize much of the Wii-motes unique abilities, it's still a great game. The 360 probably gets the most useage, with me playing Guitar Hero 2 and my brother playing Oblivion. We download demos/videos on an almost daily basis and often purchase the cheaper, funner games off Live Arcade. Have about 10 games for 360. Xbox has been modded to be an entertainment center, GC gets used as I replay random games when I feel so inclined (Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Wind Waker, Double Dash), and the DS is mostly taken by my sister and her love of Cooking Mama and that surgery game.

I haven't seen anything on PS3 that makes me want it yet.

Okay here is where it stands...

Xbox 360
You've got some notable titltes (Halo 3 etc anyone?), etcetera, not free live support, but I think maybe MS will fall in line with Sony on this one... Game support should be pretty good on x360, and there should be ample enough titles, espeically now to pick it up... No word (like Sony) on squashing the backwards compatibility (Sony needs to do this to make it cheaper)... but no real stand-out titles either... still cheaper than Sony though for Xbox live

Sony PS3
Sony did what I don't think any console system should do... bundle a new hardware concept into their machine, making it more expensive, in the hopes of launching said hardware concept--- i.e. Blue Ray... You can get a HDTV add on drive for the Xbox for 200 dollars that works with BOTH the Xbox & a PC.... Sony should have left this out, instead of making its machine the defacto NEXT GENERATION hardware machine... You'll never see another Final Fantasy game on Sony's machine.... but it has some good titles, Resistance, Fall of Man, etc etc... but are they exclusives? Will MS Work Direct X 10 into Xbox 360? (who knows, but Doubtfull, as there are NO DX10 games for PCs at present).... PS3 is truly a Next Gen Machine.... but with little develolper support anad a high price tag... Have to wait to see in a year how many titles it can say are viable for purchasing the console, and at a loss.... Sony will have to chip-away at features on future versions.

Nintendo Wii
There's an old passage from 1982 or so from a William Gibson book about a company that helped other globabl companies such that they didn't pick a name that was either offensive or simply stupid in another language... Too bad Nintendo didn't use that... Oh Well... Wii has got a great concept with it's controllers, considered by some such as American MacGee as the ONLY truly Next-Generation console (he's wrong)... But woah, Absolutely NO live support, and Nintendo forbids developers from integrating live support----- What gives Nintendo? The games on Wii fare no better graphically than the Gamecube, so surely "N" is placing all its marbles on the new interface (which IS IN FACT revolutionary) ....but an interface doesn't always make great games, which has been reported.... You need to mary interface invention w/ graphic complexity---- otherwise the consumer wil get bored.... If you can play Madden 2008 on a same-old same-old controller, yet the graphics look superior, does Joe-Everyman care? No.

A few people I know have all 3 consoles... but that's not everyone... Right now, I'd put my money into the 360.... simply for its links to Direct X 10 (possibly?), and it's cheap cheap access to HD content (as you need it)... You're buying the horse & the carriage w/ PS3, and you'll lose backwards compatibility soon... Wii... No Online Play? that's not very cool.... and the controllers may turn out to be more gimick that revolution, (though right now I'm siding w/ Revolution if they can get enough title support)...

Right now I don't think a X360 would be a waste of money, that's my personal oppinion.

none of those..
But I own *the donky kong game. Nintendo's first portable game.* the gameboy game boy color, nintendo (original) super nintendo (snes)That's great, I owned an intellevision once, but it's not very relevant to the discussion...

If You're going to Say Vote--- Something in Japanese, just say "Let's Vote" or "Go Vote!", because "Vote Shou" doesn't mean anything whatsoever.... If you want to say "Go do voting..." say "Vote Shite..." or shall we vote, "Vote Shiou"....? Don't use Japanese arbitrarilty because you think it makes your language "cooler"....

I'm a Nintendo girl all the way (:
The only console I own is a gamecube, but luckily my cousin has the old nintendo 64 and let's me borrow it sometimes.. I think the reason why I like nintendo the best is because I used to play it with my cousin when I was younger, and also because I'm a bit addicted to The Legend of Zelda. :-)

I think he's saying Vote [for] Shou. Just like "Vote Bloomberg in 2008."Oh, I see now. I'm sort of glad I have no idea who that is.

To keep this on topic, I know a few friends who have a Wii and find it immensely entertaining... I haven't had the chance to go fool around with it yet, even though I've had several chances.

I tried playing some of the big titles like Resistance, Fall of Man & the like for PS3, but being a PC person used to the old standard mouse/keyboard FPS layout, I found it difficult to adapt to using a controller to play what were basically first person shooters.

The trend these days seems to be bringing games like Half Life 2, (which is an arguably great game) to console systems, though I don't know how well they translate control wise to a console.

Even a new Command & Conquer game, an RTS, or real time strategy is coming for consoles, and RTS games are typical the staple of PCs...

I think it's probably natural that a lot of the computer entertainment we are used to is going to come out of the den, and into the living room, it will be interesting to see exactly how they adapt to that environment.

I have a GC, Wii, ps2, ps1.

I like Nintendo cause I grew up with it, and love the characters and worlds in their games.

I'm not one of those people that will only buy from one maker though, it's dumb imo.

I want to buy an xbox360 for Ninja Gaiden 2 and some other games.

The only game I want for ps3 is Tekken 6.

Isn't it funny, the things we say when we have no knowledge of the future :) I think we've got a while yet before streaming hi-def becomes the norm. Many countries still have download limits. Not to mention the speed needed to stream a 6-8GB hi-def video.

I have respect for PS1 and PS2, but Sony really dropped the ball with the PS3. Still love my PS2 though. Never had respect for the huegbox though.

As for hi-def video, it's probably possible, but not in some countries (*cough* US *cough*). If you compare it to other countries, the internet here in the US is absolutely sluggish. In the US, the average internet speed is around 2 Mbps. Australia, about the same. Even in Canada it's faster, 7 Mbps. However, Japan's average internet speed is 61 Mbps, which used to be fastest in the world about a year ago. That's about 7.5 MB per second, 450 MB per minute, 27 GB per hour; easily enough. Of course, eastern Europe has the fastest internet speeds now because they're just now adopting the internet. Later adoption of internet = faster speeds.

Due to Amerika-byou though, it will never happen here. Corrupt government, corporate greed, etc. I bet in another decade, the US will be up to maybe 4 Mbps while everyone else has speeds that can be measured in Gbps.

Well I have been fortunate enough to have almost all of those, and I have a few opinions. First of all I love Sony, but the PS3 is, well not worth it. All I can say. It doesn't have a great collection of games yet. It doesn't have much to boast about over the xbox. I don't want blu-ray. I have a DVD player, so I don't see the point in paying all of that money for something i want use, or have no use for. I guess I could use it. In my opinion the Xbox 360 is worth it, but the PS3 is not.

As for my favorite. I would say the Wii, and I think Nintendo has the best product this time around. It is a lot of fun to play and its cheap. All of its extra features are great too. To me gameplay is the most important graphics are just a bonus. I think the Wii definitley has the best game play. I don't see how anyone can be a 'fan boy' for a certain company. Either it has a good system or it doesn't. I loved the PS2, but just because the same company made the PS3 I won't automatically like it. I didn't like the xbox or gamecube very much, but I love their new systems. It should be a matter of who has the best product, not whos your favorite company. And just because you like one system doesn't make all the others bad. I get tired of people who say 'OMG XBOX IS LIK RLY GUD IF YOU LIKZ TEH UDARZ U R STOOPUD'. :D
All of the systems have their upsides and downsides. One isnt the holy grail of game systems.

PC>All systems though :)

Fuddling with settings, possibly turning your computer into a vegetable in the process is not fun. Dealing with DRM is not fun. Buying new hardware is not fun. I've pretty much given up on PC gaming. There's nothing out there that really makes all this trouble worth it anymore, anyways.

Drew-san
Jul 26, 2008, 01:39
If you know even a little about what your doing then there shouldn't be any problem.(Not implying that you don't just a general statement.) Theres no need to buy new hardware for more the a couple of years if you buy the right parts. You can put together a PC that will run every thing that will be introduced in the next 4-5 years for about as much as a PS3. All shooters on the PC is reason enough. Console shooters are not worth a dime if you can get them on the PC.

Derfel

Disagree. Im one of those people who prefer to write with a keyboard and play with a joystick.

Either a joke or hypocrisy, hopefully the former.

The Wii is going to have a final fantasy game on it too. I am sure that it will be really fun to play with the Wii controller.

I have owned a PS2 an xbox 360 and a Wii. I don't think that the PS3 is worth the price. Lets face it...when the xbox 360 came out it wasn't worth the price either. The Wii is cheap and totally fun. As soon as I got my Wii I sold my xbox 360 because I just didn't like the fact that a good game was only coming out every 6 months and they could be beat in 12 hours. Wii games seem to last longer because they are always fun to play.
