Just throwing this out there. I found this and it's very helpful...for JLPT 1-4 with kanji and kana as well as english meanings.

Also, what would be the right word for 'learn', as in, "I am learning Japanese".

習う「ならう」 narau = to learn
I am learning Japanese. = (私は)日本語を習っています。([watashi wa] nihongo o naratte imasu.)
I'm pretty sure you could also say (私は)日本語を習います。 ([watashi wa] nihongo o naraimasu.)
I think you should say "I'm study Japanese", which is (私は)日本語を勉強しています。 ([watashi wa] nihongo o benkyou shite imasu.)
勉強する「べんきょうする」 benkyou suru = to study

Thank you Tomii. It would be better to say 'studying' than 'learning'?

I think so... i'm not 100% sure, but when in dobt, use 'study" haha (that doesn't rhyme D: lol)
ummm,... Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can use both, but if you don't know when to use "learn", just use "study"

どういたしまして〜! へへへ:-)
あぁ!僕も日本語を勉強していますよ!;−P
If you use 習う, there is a nuance that you're learning from somebody. For general purpose, 勉強 is better.
