I live in Canada (Montreal) and I just got accepted for a 1year student exchange with Waseda University in Tokyo at their "Intensive Japanese Learning Program". Sadly I wasnt eligible for a scholarship because I wasnt part of a Bachelor program at the time of my demand, which is a prerequisite. Even though, I'll still be leaving this coming september 11 until late august 2008. Since Ill be covering all of my expenses (with most of my savings :p) I'm trying to find the cheapest option available for plane tickets. So if anyone knows a good place either in Montreal or on the web please let me know
:relief:

Flights are expensive; there's no way getting around that, unless if you can ship yourself bulk rate.

Even if its only a few hundred dollars less. I mean only fools (or rich) buy their plane tickets without looking around :p
Like 3years ago I went to japan for about 3 weeks and was able to get ticket for under 1000$CAN where most places were selling them for 1500~2000$CAN. Tommorow morning I'll go look at some agency and Ill post the lowest I found here.

Only one thing though, since Ill be leaving for almost a year, websites like expedia or AirCanada are telling me tickets are going to cost around 4500$, I hope this is wrong because well.. that kinda hurt. Whats the best option for students leaving for long period of time, air ticket-wise. Also Ill be flying on a september 11, Im not sure if tickets could be cheaper because alot of people do not fly on that date since the incident

I like HIS or STA travel, but compared to a couple years ago, the price of a flight is pretty ridiculous these days.

It also depends when you go. October - February will be cheaper while March - September will be more expensive.

I found Air France to be the cheapest, however I do not know if that is even possible in Canada.

This is why many rich people are rich: because they are careful about money. They are like that because they get the best deals;

Oh, on the other hand, I would shop around, look at Orbits, Expedia, or Priceline, where you bid a price for your ticket and then the airlines contact you whether or not they accept your price offer. Or... you could always fly from Toronto, it might be a lot cheaper, or better yet, from Vancouver or San Francisco, you could save hundreds if you think about many possible options.

Plane fare to Japan tends to fluctuate, no doubt due to the exchange rate. Case in point, when I flew to Japan in 2003, I searched the Internet for the best (read: cheapest) fare I could find by airline. On American Airlines' website, one day the price of a round trip to Jaapan from my hometown of Philadelphia was $1,350.00, the very next day, it was $850.00. But that was four years, heaven only knows what the cost is today. I can only suggest that you monitor sites like Expedia or Orbitz on a daily basis and see what prices are like. Good luck!

IACE is a good one. I find that they usually have the best prices from the US.
