If you say kisu many times it will sound like suki : kisukisukisukisukisukisukisuki

Isn't that strange that those two words are so similar ? One is English, the other Japanese. Maybe the Japanese word suki スキ is just kisu キス say they other way round ?

It does not sound anything like suki when you do what you say. There are different emphasis when speaking these two different words.

Ah really ? Funny because I met some Japanese friends and I said suki suki suki, and they understand kisu suki or something like that...

So when you say it it sounds like kisu or suki the other way around? I think thats what they were implying.

It really doesn't. The two words which do, though, are Tokyo and Kyoto. Lol.

again, technically no. the vowel length in 京都 (kyouto) and 東京 (toukyou) are different, as are the accents.

This is true, but th vowels of キス and 好き are the same, aren't they ? I don't think that stress matters in Japanese. Kanto people say hashi differently from Kansai people !

Suki sounds a lot like the English word 'ski.' As in the piece of equipment you go skiing with. The japanese word kisu sounds like 'key sue.' They really don't sound much alike unless you were pronouncing them wrong. If you were talking about the english word kiss, that sounds even less like the japanese word suki, since the i sounds are different and you hold the ss.

I actually agree with the OP.

The point is, if you say キスキスキスキスキス consecutively, it can also sound like 好き好き好き好き好き after a while - provided that the speaker doesn't pause anywhere in the sequence.

So the words are similar in that キス is the inverse of 好き in sound.

Well, it's likely that you inadvertently paused in between す and き when you said 好き, yet did not pause after each repetition of 好き.

So you may have sounded like す きす きす きす... which got mistaken for キス キス キス... instead by your Japanese friends.

Haha, you are right, Supervin.
This "trick" is used when you want to make someone say "kiss" - it'll be an excuse to kiss when it is between boyfriend/girlfriend! :p:bluush:

Similar thing is カバ (hippo) and バカ (stupid, idiot):
「カバ、カバって早口で言って」
「カバカバカバカバカバカバ....」
「今、バカって言ったな~!!」:auch:
「言ってないよ~~」
「いや、言ったね!」

It's a joke to tease your friends.
